- Bonjour à tous,
This week, with part of the family back in the UK Terry & Ash take over the cottage update with more château renovations.
The pair tackle more of sanding the walls on the third floor, pushing ahead to create a home and to finally move in.
Plus, Terry & Ash have a little walk to the lake and have a break from all the sanding and show us a little more of the château grounds.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

OMG! I am watching this a year after you've posted. I hope you've found a vacuum sander hook up so that you are able to sand your drywall without the job causing a storm of dust throughout the entire chateau. I've done a lot of drywall finishing both with and without a vac sander, and I promise you it's worth using that tool. It makes the job so much more bearable and the clean up is SO much easier!!! It will be invaluable as you finish rooms and are trying to live in the space you are renovating.
Exciting to be seeing your progress. Hope Jonathan had a good visit with his parents.
Thank you Ash for your introduction in French! I have been a student of French for a few years and it was really good to be able to understand everything you said 😁👍👏👏👏 🇫🇷
Thank you very much, yes ash is getting on very well with it all 🥰
It would be lovely for you to replace the missing oak at your entry road. Especially to commemorate your family’s restoration or rebirth of the chateau. The original tree size by side with the new oak. - Susan Maschke from East Moriches New York
What a would idea 🙏🥰🥰
I was thinking the same thing
Love this idea
Love that idea 😍
I love your accents and there is nothing common about the two of you. What an amazing adventure you're sharing!
Thank you so much 🥰🥰
If you guys don’t watch gardener’s world you should. Walks you through the seasons.
It's showing you what you are going to look like when you go gray.
Wonderful to see and watch the interaction between the two handsome men, Tracy and Ash!
Would be lovely to plant a new oak to replace the missing one and commemorate your family taking over good luck with your renovation your doing a great job 👏
That is a wonderful idea 🙏🥰
Hi Terry & Ash, was just so nice to see you both! This was a lovely video! Loved the walk and listening to you both chat! I really like the way you both pronounce Chateau...don't change, it's refreshing to hear and see people being natural and comfortable, that's what make your videos so nice to watch...I hope you keep doing videos and sharing your journey. You are both very sweet! Thank you for sharing, take really good care of yourselves, stay well. Much love Kathy x 💖
Thank you very much, we will not be changing, we are to normal 😂 so glad you enjoyed it all 🙏🥰
The guitar music you chose is relaxing and soothing, great choice!!!
Thank you! Terrys great taste :)
You are both such gorgeous gentle gentlemen and a pleasure to watch your channel.
I cannot wait to see all the rooms transformed. Now that I have seen the land I am so happy you will get volunteers to start cleaning up.
Thank you so much 🥰🥰
Hi Terry and Ash, love to be a part of your journey in and around the Chaeau 😉❤️ You are such a nice couple. Seeing your enjoyment for all the hard work, it warmes my heart 💖 Your mum Tracy and your dad Toni are also incredibly likeable. It is so nice to see how happy you are, when you have accomplished something together. Good luck... Looking forward to see more of your beautiful videos 😍 Greetings from Dresden, Germany and a big hug for Jonathan
Thank you so much 🙏🥰🥰
Thanks for the nice walk to your lakes. The oak is beautiful & I hope it lives many many more years. Ash - never apologize for speaking French. I’m envious. Me being French Canadian (From English Canada) and not speaking French is a pity. Long story. You speak French brilliantly!
Loved seeing the grounds of the chateau. Imagine what they'll look like in 5 years time. Please keep your vlogs going so we can share how your gardens grow and you all as a family. Never change you are both wonderful 👍👍👍😊
Thank you very much, we will keep them coming 🥰🥰
Ash, keep speaking French! Kudos to you both for the great scenery of fields, streams, and pancake makeup:)
😂😂 thank you 🙏🙏🥰🥰
Your home is truly a lovely place to live. You chose well. Thank you so much for letting us in.🤗🌞
Thank you very much 🙏🥰
How wonderful if you could plant a new oak opposite where the original one was. It would grow up for future generations.
Love this idea!!
Ash, since I can't speak or understand the French language, I was impressed with your opening message!!! That was another great video. The walk to the lake, the "white hair look", just the down to earth chat between the two of you....spot on!! I'm now looking forward to meeting your family and see what tricks you get up to with them....your humour is great! Hugs to little Patrick!
Thank you so much, yes we are just normal people 😊 will be fantastic for you to visit 🙏🥰🥰
Loving all the cinematic shots, your skill and creativity in your videos just gets better and better! Really enjoyed the change up in the music too. Then finishing with the chats and show n tell feels so personal, like you are talking directly to me. But the highlight of this episode was watching you two work together and how much you enjoy each other’s company. 😘🇦🇺
So glad you enjoyed it all 🥰 yes we have unproved a lot since our first episode 😂
Me and ash love working together, just other jobs have pulled us apart 🥰
I was totally thinking wisteria for your Chateau.....was delighted to hear that is part of the plan.
Sweet vid taking time away from your day to dream about the future near the lake.
.....and the weather you have for this time of the year.....wow!
You've clearly settled into your home so completely.
❤️🇨🇦
Mariya
P.S. I think you will definitely need a greenhouse and a library...and they will both be overflowing
Ash your French was spoken with great confidence loved it
He is doing so well with it 🥰
You need a fan at an open window pulling that air out and an open window at the opposite window dragging in fresh air.
I thought I'd been here from the beginning, but I don't remember seeing a lake. It looks to be a pretty good size too. Love the Butterfly Meadow and those snowdrops. When you start planting, Ash, will you do an aerial view of the place as well as linear to give us some idea. Just think, in about 5 years, you will be able to give garden tours of the grounds. Make sure you document it all to pass on to future generations.
Jonathon loves apples and we love Jonathon!
It was a beautiful walk. How gorgeous it all is!
Thank you so much 🙏🥰
Thanks guys !! Great to watch you. You’re doing great with your French Ash !!! Keep it up. Seriously, you’re all a fabulous inspiration ! 😘
Thank you so so much 🙏🥰🥰
Loved the French introduction and seeing your lovely grounds. The lake, bridge and snowdrops are absolutely delightful. I love a nice cocktail and Erin, I think, is a pro! Bonne chance 🍸🍹x
Thank you so much 🙏🥰🥰
Ye g.ods..that dust! I think you two should invest in sanders with dust bags as well as eye protection. Such a relief to finally see an end to that tunnel and a chance of having your own apartment by the summer. I presume you are getting a team in to do the fosse septique? Worth the money to get it done quickly.
Awww... Look at you guys getting all cinematic!! I'm loving seeing how you are getting into the production of your videos alongside the restoration. It will probably help you keep your sanity too 😊 Looking great guys. Love the tour of the grounds as well... the packaging for some of those seeds is so pretty! You could frame them with the letters and keep them as part of the evolution of the chateau! (... and loved your French intro Ash😊👌)
Thank you very much, glad you liked it all 🙏🥰🥰
Ash, your French is very good. Perfectly understandable to an old "square head" like me lol!
I would still fill-in the gaps along the ceiling as you don't want the airflow in or out. Its not the quality its the moisture the air is carrying can create mold on the inside surfaces. Don't need to be fancy just air tight as you'll be covering it over with moldings.
You might want to invest in a closed sander with a air handler so you don't have the clouds of dust! Or at least get a window fan to pull the air out!
Thank you very much for that 🙏🥰
Exactly what I was thinking!
I was also going to mention a fan in the window to pull the dust out
❤️🏰 Thank you for the vlog; can sympathize with you guys on the sanding did my taping and jointing (by hand-no power tools), original tree ❤️🌳 and future (seeds)
Missed you all in the live chat ….Ash you have lots of gardening fun to look forward to …..love to you all 🥰😘🥰💐👋💐
He definitely has 😂🥰
Guys love the walk around, the bridge the stream and the majestic oak. PLEASE cut the ivy at the base of the oak, ivy lives on the sap and will eventually kill the host tree.
Beside the bridge would be a lovely picnic space.
Thank you for sharing your journey. Love watching the transformation of the chateau and the cottage and will be very interested in watching the garden’s. Love being on this journey with you all
"And now I can't unsee it.". ROFL!!!
Ash spoke French well you should be proud
He is great at it 🥰
Oh my word, the amount of work that needs to be done is daunting.
I truly admire your work ethic and sheer determination.
You have achieved an enormous amount of work in a short space of time.
Well done, onwards and upwards.
👍💖
Thank you very , yes we still have a long way to go 🥰
Love this video and you both… love you discussing the way you say “chaeau” with out the T… glad you don’t plan on changing!! You both have such good energy and work so hard…so inspiring! 🙌🙌🙌
Thank you so much, yes it’s funny how we say it 😂🥰
I loved the stroll around the property! Beautiful flowers are coming up and that bridge is fabulous! I agree, your huge tree, ( is it an Oak?) needs that ivy taken out!
I am worried about the amount of dust you are working in. First, block off doors with plastic to minimize dust in your entire chateau...it will make it's way to other floors! Get a sander that will attach to your shop vac...it will take a large percent of that dust away. Put a box fan in the window. You need respirators!!! Those masks, even N95 will not block all that dust!! Seriously, you guys are gonna have lungs full of that. Please take care!
Definitely, fill those cracks in the ceiling...you will have air flow and moisture in there if you don't!
Y'all do an amazing amount of work and it shows. Soon you will have a livable space!
And Ash, very proud of your French!
I can't wait till you start decorating and putting your furniture in ..won't be long now 🙂
It’s beautiful walking down to the lake, all the Snowdrops 🦋🦋& butterflies
Love the little bridge by the lake xx
Thanks Ann. It’s pretty special :)
Greetings from Nova Scotia!🇨🇦. Love your videos- you are very talented and hard working !
You guys need a dedicated sander for plaster works that attaches to a vacuum you’ll never get all the dust out at this point and you have so many square feet of walls to justify it. You can get attachments for your existing sanding machines, but check out Edd and Anna’s it has a long pipe so you can reach the top of wall without a ladder.
I love when you play the more modern music. thanks
You need to get a wood chipper, you have a lot of material chip away and it’ll be good for your garden pathways a lot of use for wood chips and you also need a log splitter so you can get all your firewood ready anyway just a tip or thought
Great idea Sonia. I said the same! Terry is coming around to the idea :)
We have a wood chipper too. It has improved the soil quality very much
Buy a box fan for the window to remove the dust.
Ash, I understood your French. Like you said all French ppl just appreciate you trying.
Well done guys ‘Lovely video ‘ and what a beautiful box of gifts from Karen. A comment from Susan to replace oak tree in commemoration of your family’s restoration of the chateau is another lovely idea. Enjoy your tea and chocolate 🍫😊
Thank you very much 🥰
Hahaha, loved your comment on how you pronounce château (cha’eau). Here’s an idea.: when you speak English, pronounce it in your usual way, and when you speak French, add the « T » et voilà! Problem solved 😆 and everyone will be happy. We all have our regional accents and it’s what makes the world so interesting. Kidding aside, you guys do impressive work. We’re all here to cheer you on 🇨🇦🇬🇧 🇫🇷 🏰
Ash ~ don't apologize for your French! I was so happy to hear it, & understood quite well. I'm still learning it myself, so well done!
You both are doing a great job, I feel the pain with all the plaster sanding, your dreams will follow in time. Wood peckers like dead trees, so leave a couple in your forest before you cut all the dead Wood out !
Thank you very much for the info 🥰
Bravo pour l'intro en français, c'est très bien ;)
Wow! Karen is a rockstar. Quad track sounds perfect…….😂
I' m amazed that your "snow drops" are in bloom! Spring can't be far away!
I know, it’s wonderful to see 😍😍
I really like seeing you boys working together and interacting. It is heart warming! When Ash pulls his dust mask up on his head, he reminds me of a print cartoon character.
Thank you very much 🥰😂
I think the flowers you were trying to think of are alium they are the same family as chives, beautiful flowers I love them
You are both doing a fantastic job in restoring and bringing back the chateau. I love watching all that you are doing.
Je vois la un magnifique appartement, sur une vue imprenable, je suis persuadée que vous ferez de ce lieux une merveille.amicalement. bravo ash ton français est super 🤗
Love your videos, where are your eye protection glasses?
The Chateau grounds look beautiful and the old oak is so majestic. Will love watching your garden grow:)
Thank you, yes the grounds will look amazing in time 😍
I'm another one who enjoys the artistic vignettes you are adding into your vlogs. We forget to stop and look at moss and snowdrops (what - snowdrops already?) in our forward rushing. I also like the time lapses in clouds of dust, because I suspect that is actually very tricky to film.
Thank you so much 🙏🥰🥰
In the future sow native wildflower seeds. Butterflies and the bees from the future hives will love them. Wetland wildflowers by the lake!
Also: The 'THUMBNAIL' on this was great. So much character. Drew me right in.
Thank you very much 🙏🥰🥰
Ash I understood your French!! It’s been a fair while since I’ve spoken it but I understood it. Lol
So much excitement…can’t wait to see paint colors and furniture on the third floor!
I know I can not wait for that 😍
Don't lose your accent boys. It's pure north. I'm Scottish and in Canada for a very long time. Still have my east Scotland accent. It's part of you. I love listening to you and your family and I understand you just fine. Cheers!
I love seeing the grounds as well as the chateau progress and you two are great, but Patrick is stealing the show for me today 🤗 He’s a character 🐾
Thanks Clare. He definitely is!
Don’t let the ivy get too much on the oak tree, it will eventually choke it,
You should try and get half a day a week to work on the lake and surrounding area to start to clear it before summer. It will make it much easier later on! Good luck xx
I didn’t realize how extensive your property is - enjoy
They have almost 22 acres!
Sorry I missed the Premiere I did watch after ! I do have couple of suggestions, Try to get the ivy off your old tree, it looks like it is just starting. I have seen several trees killed (smothered) by ivy. The owner of the land thought that it looked pretty growing and did for about 10 years, till the tree limbs started falling off. Had to have them (trees) cut down. Several were almost as large as yours. Simple to do just cut off about 2 foot (about 60 cm) all around tree where you can reach. (Have a 60cm space all around the tree trunk where there is no ivy. The part of the plant going up the tree will die and you can remove the part with roots as you get time. Second, use in the can spray foam on the cracks where the ceiling meets the wall let dry and trim flat with razor. Being on third flood this will stop cold drafts from coming in. I did this around my windows also then put the frames back on amazing the difference ! Keep up the great work guys ! :)
Thank you so much for the suggestions 🙏🥰🥰
I thought the same: oh! oh! Ivy on that beautiful old tree. Must get removed, to keep that tree living and healthy… beautiful area around the lake.. and foam in the cracks to improve the insulation up stairs.
I know what the rails look like! Cheeky boys! 🤣
I hadn’t noticed Angela. Now I can’t Unsee them 😂😂
Same here 🤫
😂😂😂
@@ashleywaters7198 I was watching, thinking, do they see what I see? Then you said that in the video and I knew I wasn't the only one! 🤣
You'll have a good start on your library ! Wonderful to be able to work in the same room with each other! Love your banter and being common! Crack on!
Thank you so much 🙏🥰🥰
Your gardens will be amazing!! I just love your chateau and the guest house!! It is so unbelievable how much work you've all accomplished in such a short time!! Bravo!! Felicitations pour ton Francais, Ash! Santé on your next cocktail!!
Thank you so much 🙏🥰
Great guys. Lovely seeing your progress and the walk round your “ estate”. So enjoyable - thanks. We had two wisteria trees in our old house. They were over 21 years old and planted in large pots. They were in our sheltered courtyard and beautiful. Moved house and could not bring them with us so have a small one now. 👏
Open the window and use a fan to help blow the dust out the window. Cant wait to see the finished product.
You are going to have a magical place to live and enjoy with the that visit.
Really enjoyed the walk around the property. It is amazing how much you have improved the property and its 'buildings in such a short period of time. So happy for you
You should talk to the treehouse guy for your glamping adventure
Lovely to see you two spending some time together
Your 3rd floor apartment is going to be a fantastic space with beautiful views
How fantastic is your Oak tree
Love Andrew 💐💜xx
It’s slowly coming together, the tree is magical 😍🥰🥰
Who knew that plain old, boring, insanely dusty sanding could be made fun and enjoyable? Terry did. WOW!! Never would have thought I would enjoy that so much. The camera angles, the slow motions, the close ups and time lapse PLUS Music... I've said it many times before, but Terry truly your videos are becoming an art form. Your creative mind and talent really shine in the medium of video. I get so much joy out your joy Ash when you see the amazing, but simple gifts like seeds and books. I am so thankful that you share these blessing and gifts with your viewers. I does the heart good to know that kindness and generosity is shared and treasured.
Thank you so so much 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
You must pinch yourself when walking in your beautiful grounds, it’s magical there no matter the season. Can’t believe you have snowdrops in the meadows already, what a lovely sight to see when we are so snowed in here. Ash your French is excellent, I know how hard it is to master it, took me years. Another great vlog, thank you 💗
Thank you very much, it is wonderful to walk around and appreciate what we have 🥰
Love the creativity in the blog. Great to see the grounds today as well.
Thank you very much 🙏🥰
I also love wisteria but here in the Canadian North they don’t grow very well so I don’t have to worry about a wisteria invasion ; however in the American south they can very easily take over a garden and once established will choke out other plants and trees. They are then very difficult to control because it’s labour intensive trying to cut back the roots and vines. I’ve heard CZcamsrs say once they are established they take over and it’s almost impossible to be rid of them.
From the deep south here, as beautiful as wisteria is it definitely is a big commitment due to it's invasive nature. True of most humid loving vines here!
Always enjoy seeing you all and see what you have accomplishing!
Thank you, glad you are enjoying it all 🙏🥰
Looking forward to seeing your landscaping and gardening.
We have self catering cottages on our farm but what I would really like to develop next is a tree house - in great demand at the moment. You have the perfect setting
Thank you very much, what a great idea 🥰
Hi Guys, I must say you are both getting more and more handsome! Just an observation from s 78-year old gay guy from California. As you share more of your lives and little moments of intimacy and appreciation for one another (those loving glances of pride when you do something recognized by the other as moments of living together) all that makes you each more attractive. (I'm not just a dirty old man). All the very best for your continued life journey.
Sympathique le début en français
OK you guys need to get a fan to pull out all that dust you guys are gonna get sick, please take care of yourselves. Put a fan in the window to suck all that dust out of that room stay healthy
Thank you very much, we had all the windows open to help 🥰
don't lose your adorable northern accents
Well Ash the French sounded pretty 👍
Thanks Lynne :)
Wow guys! It’s just looking so good. The shots of the exterior of the house just really begin to give a feeling for how wonderful it’s going to be.
Wow, to the beautiful oak tree, your grounds are beautiful.
Did you know you can dig up your clumps of snowdrops now, break up to smaller clumps and replant. They’ll spread and grow more!
Ok, it was so fun watching you open your packages and reading all the notes from Karen, what a lovely women to do that❤️ This was a really cool video from the beautiful butterflies to the building work to the chat. Terry your voice is so soothing, I really could listen to it all day.
Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed it all 🥰🙏🥰
Do you have a greenhouse?
I LOVED the little walk around your land. I think it would be great for you to take a walk all around the property with your camera and have the drone following you at the same time, and then put the videos in split-screen so we can see where you are in relation to the buildings while you are walking! I think it's doable, but a little bit more work in editing!
Thank you very much, what a great idea 🥰🥰
Lovely to see the grounds, and to know you value the trees and the land.
Thank you. Yes we love it all 🥰
Lol. You call wisteria a tree. In the US South we call it a weed.
