AGROUND PART 4: SUMMARY OF LEARNINGS AND ANALYSIS

This video summarizes the learnings and analysis of my navigation error where I ran aground on a sandbar. There is also some detailed discussion on why I now believe I was drifting toward the shallows as the tide was coming in.

Thanks for the note. The other stuff is a little esoteric for sure, though I felt somewhat valuable (and hopefully interesting!) as it was "in the moment" under the stress of it all as I endeavored to stay relaxed enough to think clearly through it all.

Never visualised it in these terms before, but if you think of the rising tide as a overflowing bathtub. Obviously, there will be a onshore current at the edge of the bathtub pushing you towards the shoreline whatever the direction of the flood. Perhaps?

Thanks for the note. Yes, I think so. I tried to find some references online, and I did find one image showing the path of a molecule of water over six or seven days and many tide cycles -- the current was along the shoreline, but the path was sinusoidal back to shore, and out to sea. It was an important point because I was not expecting that so wasn't prepared to be pushed further into the shallows. It was a good lesson.
