  • It's safe to say that Pokemon Let's Go was not what we wanted for a Pokemon remake and failed to resonate with a majority of the Pokemon community. This shows more when we compare Pokemon Lets go to the original remakes Pokemon FRLG. In this video I go into detail about why Pokemon Let's Go failed as a remake.

The reason for Pokémon Let’s Go being made was to get the Pokemon Go players to get into the mainline games. It did it’s job. So it’s a good remake in what its intention for being made was.

That’s by far the dumbest reason to have. Literally anyone who played Pokémon go literally already knows what Pokémon is. Only people would be literal children and even then the games have all been made for children yet adults and poke tubers are buying them the most. This is literally the biggest cope I’ve ever seen

Looking back, Pokemon Let's Go isn't a bad game at all. It just screams lost potential. As someone who grew up not only during the Pokemon boom of the 90s, but with the Yellow version, it saddens me that we have this misrepresentation of what made the original Yellow version awesome.
So I'm totally with you on why it failed, you only have the original 151 Pokemon + Melmetal & Meltan, their Mega and Alolan forms and that's it. You don't get access to the other generations like FRLG did. Now, I'm not asking for a 1:1 remake a la BDSP, but at the same time, they could've improved on what made the originals so great, instead of making a weird Pokemon GO/mainline hybrid.

Gamefreak looks at the sales numbers
Lets Go didn't fail as far as Gamefreak is concernt, as it outsold every single one of the remakes.
Estimated revenue is also interesting to look at, as its a remake of yellow. However, Lets Go brings in the most revenue for remakes, the only one coming close is BDSP.
Even looking at Lets Go and the Original Generation introduction games (So every first game in a generation), only 5 of them outsell Lets Go (With most of them being later generation, from gen 6 and onwards, the only oddity being Sun and Moon, who brought in less revenue and the other 2 are RBG and GS.
So it might seem a fail for the fanbase, for Gamefreak it isn't.

I totally agree it needed a difficulty setting, because then it could be a game for newcomers and older players at the same time, and the lack of content that was already in FireRed and LeafGreen seems ever worst. I really hope that they take this feedback from the community and make a better remake when it comes to redo the 2nd generation again. Johto is considered by many the best region and I really hope they do justice for it.

I have played at least 1 or both versions of each of the paired games from Gens 1 to Gen 9. I also played Legends Arceus. I never miss out on any main series Pokemon games aside from the Lets GO games.
    I skipped it.
I cant imagine spending $60 on a game that us vastly inferior to a GBA game (FRLG) when it runs on a significantly mote powerful console.
LGPE is a blatant cash grab meant to take advantage of our nostalgia and it worked. But I aint falling for it. I saw how lackluster its contents are.
Also the $50 paywall for Mew is like the icing on top as to why I hate LGPE.
-No held items when FRLG had it.
-No sevii islands thus making its postgame almost non-existant.
-Megas are available but due to the lack of abilities, Megas are basically useless
-Abilities were removed when FRLG had it
-153 Pokemon only when FRLG had 300+
I cant find one good reason to drop $60 on a blatant cash grab.
The only way I would play LGPE is if it gets released as a 1 week free trial for NSO subscribers (Pokken Tournament got released as a Game Trial for NSO subscribers but I doubt they would do the same for LGPE).
But overall, aint no way im wasting money on this trash. LGPE sucks.
Btw BDSP sucks too. But at least it has more features and content than LGPE!
Goddamn im scared on the future of remakes. They are turning to just cash grabs now.
Back then when remakes get announced, you'd expect additional features/mechanic that the original one didnt have.
Nowadays its the same shit with a different coat of paint.
I bought BDSP(Brilliant Diamond only. Not both) because I was hoping to get something new out of it but alas, there was none.
At least I succesfully shiny hunted Shaymin, Darkrai and Arceus in my Brilliant Diamond. Gotta make that $60 worthwhile somehow. ☹️

I'm going to go out on a limb and say pokemon needs a drastic overhaul of the battle system, the "level" system, gyms, wild pokemon encounters, and trainer battles. I think pokemon shouldn't have "levels" any more, and should have master stars, from zero to five stars to show how well trained they are. The moves that pokemon use should have mastery stars corresponding to how many times the pokemon has used the move, starting with zero and going to five. Pokemon should unlock new moves by gaining master stars or by their moves gaining in mastery stars.
For example, a pikachu learns thunderbolt when thundershock reaches 3 mastery stars, a pikachu learns quick attack when its tackle reaches 3 mastery stars, a pikachu learns "thunder tackle" when its quick attack and thunderbolt both are 3 mastery stars.
I would also remove PP, and give pokemon "stamina", the moves they use reduce their stamina, stronger moves cost more stamina.

I refuse to think of these games as remakes in the first place - in my mind these are spin-offs.
Even pretty damn decent spin-offs insofar as they make for a different experience that successfully simplifies the core Pokémon concept for people with extremely short attention spans. Certainly helps that the Let's Go! games actually have pretty damn good visuals.
Legends: Arceus was kind of the continuation of this concept to me in that both of these games are primarily about watching cute Pokémon waddle around and then catching them. Which is fine! But it's also not what the series is about in my mind.

For how much Let's Go lacked in content compared to every previous remake (as well as doing scummy stuff like the cruel Game Corner tease and locking Mew behind a $50 accessory), these games should've been $20 at most.
Also, LGPE should've been one version because Yellow was one version. I cannot overstate enough how greedy it was that they split a $30 single version Gameboy game into two-version $60 Switch games. The Rescue Team remake had the right idea turning Red and Blue Rescue Team into one definitive DX version.
And despite LGPE's main goal of trying to draw players from Pokemon GO into the main series, it was two years too late because GO's popularity had declined significantly after its initial hype in 2016. So trying to cash in on GO's success at that point made LGPE doomed on arrival. It didn't help that they lacked a lot of the Pokemon that GO added in before LGPE even came out, and LGPE straight up couldn't connect to the other Gen 7 games at all, so Meltan and Melmetal couldn't be transferred over to either SM or USUM. This also meant that these games would be the first ones to implement the infamous "Dexit", making them look really bad in retrospect.
Anyways, there are good things that LGPE does provide like the good 3D character models and the way Ride Pokemon were handled, but I have way too many problems with them to consider them acceptable by AAA Switch standards or even the standards set by every previous Pokemon remake. Regardless, I loved watching your video and you brought up a lot of good points. Great job and I would love to hear more of your opinions on other games in the future. Ciao! 👋

Tbf pokemon lets go was never designed with the average pokemon fan in mind, it was designed to give pokemon go players (a good percentage of that being young children) there first tradition experience, they did what they had to do (have the 2 most well known base evolution pokemon (pikachu and eevee) as cover pokemon, have the words pokemon and go everywhere, have connectivity with pokemon go, keep it easy because of the target audience, keeping the story and map simple and familiar, not adding heaps of post game like gen 5 onwards). Would of loved it though if they added gen 2 as an additional dlc for £/$10-15

I feel like the Lets Go games aren't meant to be remakes but rather are supposed to be a bridge between Pokemon Go players and Pokemon main series players.
The Lets Go games are alright, not the worst we got out of Pokemon. Not necessarily meant to be the Fire Red and Leaf Green, but a Pokemon Yellow brought into the modern age with Pokemon Go compatibility.

I got this game for free along with a Nintendo switch I got for cheap at a pawn shop. I’m currently on my way to Celadon City and I gotta say I’m honestly having a good time. Yeah I could be left wanting more but if I had a kid who was 4-5 like me when I first played Pokémon Red, I’d gladly give him/her this game. I think it’s a good first experience for people new to the games and fun/nostalgic for people like me who haven’t gamed in years. Overall I’d give it a 3/5. I wouldn’t call it bad-it’s like playing Yellow Version all over again. It’s pretty mediocre for today’s standards is all. Still loving the game though

i havent played BDSP or LGPE cause when they came out i concidered both of em boring cause one was a remake with pokemon go mechanics ( which is in no way a bad thing) and the other was basically a reskin of my beloved gen 4 pokemon game (which again not a bad thing its a remaster for new audiance) 5 and 2 years later after their reasleses i concider playing both of them for the sole reason that pokemon is my comfort game now days and i dont strive to be a critic anymore. Yes they could have been better in many ways especially BDSPs content for LGPE it seems that the game itself was meant to be simplistic concidering that it doesent have EVs as part of the battle mechanic. i watched a ton of reviews for both games while trying to find out which one i want to play first. Opinions range for diffrent reasons all together. conclusion play what you think feels right for you i concider both of em to be fun and chilly games but there is no reason to argue which is worse or better just try to have fun if you dont like either just dont buy them. i leave this here for those who argue about which is worse "remake" cause i got bored watching them in the end its just a pokemon games in a limited console it cant be witcher or elden ring. (and remember some communities have it worse really *cough *couch digimon and im sadly part of thay community too)

I had to reinstall this week to add Tangela Goldeen Seaking Farfetch'd Cubone and Marowak to my living dex- what a nightmare, that task should have been incredibly easy and fast but no, it took three hours and over 120 ultra balls to catch and then level them up enough to evolve respectively. I was so happy when I was done, I uninstalled immediately and I will never play it again, ever. I laughed so hard that the clods who made this game made me swim back and forth in a tiny 4×1 water patch until a goldeen appeared, and tangela wasnt much better- just run around in circles on this 3x3 tiny island and good luck avoiding all the pokes you dont want in this little phone booth of an island. I would rather wipe my save data and hardcore nuzlocke SV than play through this awful mess again

Now that i have kids i can introduce them to pokemon and know everything and its young kid friendly. This game was targeted to new players and not veterans. Aiming to GO players and younger kids with a easier game.

IMO I agree with you on somethings, and disagree with you as well. Speaking for myself, Let's Go Pickachu and Eevee (I have Pickachu) is what go me playing Pokemon Go, I wasn't that into it until the Let's Go games came out. Plus when Pokemon Yellow came out, that quickly became my favorite version back then, that's why LGPE was a must buy for me. This wasn't in my opinion meant to be a mainline title rather than a tester game. I think for that it did its job. I dislike having to buy the sort of useless PokeBall Plus just for a mew, especially now in 2024 where at this point we have Pokemon Home and I have a few mew to spare. The nostalgia factor is why I feel this game was good, especially in the period of time the game takes place in the Pokemon timeline. I think it would have been cool if they probably did introduce Pokemon from other regions as part of the Pokedex in Let's Go apart from just Alolan variants, maybe even a new Pokemon species altogether that was discovered in the Kanto region. I liked some of the elements from other titles they implemented in the game. I personally stopped playing Pokemon from Blue, Red, Yellow up until X and Y so the titles in-between I didn't play. I only bought brilliant diamond for that reason and I personally felt that game was less fun than this one until the Legends Arceus connection became relevant. I feel this game will always be a mixed bag, but a bad game it is not, personally one of the best console Pokemon games so far. And that's the factor here, console vs handheld. The requirements take much more and the fan demands as well. Which is why Scarlett and Violet has it's woes. But I think this game was a great showing of what Gamefreak could do, and I hope they continue to try and innovate the franchise in the future especially with a new console in the works.

i completely disagree. as someone who played fire red millions of times and ranked as my favorite. i rank let's go higher. mind you this is purely subjective. but while there's a lot of stuff that pissed me off about the game. like the lack of content and boredline cutting it. the game is insanely fun. the catching mechanic is infinitely more enjoyable than the tedious wild battles. sure the motion controls were bad at first. but i got used to it. and it was a blast since then. unlike wild battles. every single encounter is unique. based by preformence i can have higner rewards and exp. while wild battles were the same old thing that i just used repel every single time while playing fire red. the only memorable wild battles were legendariy wild battles. and let's go does have them. albit different. post game i agree with you. let's go has it lacking a lot. however the sevii island while enjoyable.. weren't much to begin with. the rocket story was made bigger and better in let's go. lorelei has more appearence in rock tunnel to compansite for the sevii islands. the only thing i agree is that the game lacks content and is incredibly easy. no game is probably be easier than let's go. which was probably the intent. the rival is hollow so much that i don't even see him as a differant charactar then blue. seeing how he appears in every single place blue did in fire red. the only thing i see firered having better than let's go is just the quanity. other than that. let's go crushes it with its better quality of life enhancement and enjoyment.

Pokemon Let's Go was literally just a cheap, barebones cash-grab to attract Pokemon Go players and to see what's the bare minimum they could charge full price with, on a Switch console. The game sucks as a remake and is really nothing more than a Remaster to entice Go players, and people bought it by the millions. I don't like the concept of the game at all, ir the fact you can't even play as Red in it, but it sold lots of copies, even mainline players bought it, and they put absolutely zero effort into the game beyond the art style. So I wouldn't call it a failure of a remake, but I do agree it's not a good one (and yet ironically, is still probably the best Pokemon Switch title; maybe tied with the over-hyped Legends Arceus.)
