  • In this tutorial I'm showing you how to remove and replace the bumper and door rubbing & bump protection strips on your Saab 9-3 '03-'07.
    In another video I'll show you how to prepare and paint them. Unfortunately for modders like you and me, these are made of PP+EPDM which is extremely difficult to paint successfully.
    Here are links to some of the tools I used in this video:

    I've wanted to paint mine silver to match the car for a while now. I've had the rear ones off to fit parking sensors and it wasn't too difficult but I've heard that the rest can be a pain so it's great to see how it's done. Thanks :-)

      Thanks 👍. I worked on these trims for Rover for a while, but all theirs were stuck on. At least you can get these off 👍. Later in the summer I'll be painting them colour coded - watch out for the video, they need special prep

    Cheers CC, my 93 side mouldings are looking shabby after 14 yrs, I was beginning to wonder if they were clip fittings or glue.....you have kindly solved the mystery :-)

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi John, thanks for interacting. Don't forget to like and share. Mine are okay physically, but are also shabby, having lost their colour and turning 'grey'. You can restore the black by heating them up, but it doesn't last long and in any case I want to paint mine body colour. I've done the two on the front bumper and they have come out very successfully, so when the weather warms up I'll do the rest. I'll be doing a video on it because the material they are made from (a rubberised polyprop - same as bumpers and splitters) requires special treatment if a lasting finish is to be achieved. Are you looking to paint or restore?

    • @THEFBDJJB
      @THEFBDJJB Před 5 lety

      @@CycloneCyd Hi, I'm looking to restore, I can source new front mouldings if required, just a bit tired of using 'back to black' and other types to get a nice finish on a dull surface (car is 14 yrs old). Sides and rear seem a bit more elusive. Neo Bros has some side mouldings (new) but not in plain black as mine are. Those were in the clearance section of Neo's. Not tried the heating up before, I have a spare side moulding so will give it a try sometime.

    • @Ark-sz6dp
      @Ark-sz6dp Před 6 lety

      Cyclone Cyd I can imagine I only ask as you have a bumper that's off. I'm attempting to maybe drill the holes so support it again without taking her off

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  Před 6 lety

      I haven't come across this problem on a 9-3SS myself and mine is fine. There is plenty of room behind the splitter. Take the bumper off (see my video) and put a piece of copper or ally tube in the space in the shape of the splitter and then fill round it with expanding foam. The wider across the width you can do this the better. Don't worry about excess foam, you can trim it easy once set (an hour tops).

      You could remove the undertray. That would allow acces to the rear of the front lip. You could use wood batten instead and screw it to the lip from the underside using stailess wood screws.

    Hi,
    I just removed the door strips from my car. 07 9-3 2.0T. Sanded with 320 and did a first coat.
    Is it the same technique to remove central rear bumper strip with parking sensors? Worried I might break something here.

      @@CycloneCyd Yep, they just pop off with a screwdriver. I wasn't too particular about scratching the paint because I intend to repaint the entire thing eventually. Even so I didn't scratch it.
