- Those character actors, actresses and friends Wayne shared the limelight with.
Over a long career John Wayne made many movies, mostly westerns. Of course he didn't do this alone. Aside from sharing the screen with the likes of Maureen O’Hara, James Stewart, Robert Mitchum and many other lead actors. None of these movies would have been possible without the many talented and hard working support actors. Today we will take a look at some of them.

Yes,excellent and on target. I am a huge John Wayne fan and you named the characters very well. He was loyal to friends.
Yes..i,m big John Wayne fan....he had a bunch of supporting characters. They were all very professional!
You left out the best:Victor McLaglan!
Was going to say that
Here is another overlook: George Gabby Hayes. He appeared in 6 Wayne Westerns.
Pedro Gonzalez Gonzalez was chosen by Wayne while Gonzalez as a guest on You Bet Your Life. Wayne put him in several of his movies.
This is the Best in America. I’m 70 and there will never be another like them. THE BEST. WHAT A BUNCH OF TALENT.
Never say never.
I think Ward Bond was his favorite.
They were close friends. John was a pallbearer at Ward's funeral.
They played college football together.
I miss Uncle John! Always tried to uphold his values, like a cowboy.
All mention made for a nice line up…Ward Bond and Hank Worden were favorites of mine…
4:13) CHABOT.
9:28)Devine's voice was caused by a neck injury when very young.
I can't think of anyone that you missed except maybe his canine supporting actors in Hondo and Big Jake.
I was hoping that you would have included some of his female co-stars
I grew up loving John Wayne movies he was a great actor and all the character actors were great. Sad to lose so many stars I considered all the character actors as stars
I enjoyed it very much, and thank you.
I don't know how he could have left out Lee Marvin. Most folks don't know that in the movie Donovans Reef, Robert Mitchum was originally signed for it. Still, one thing that John and Robert always did was play pranks like school kids and they played one on John Ford which caused him to fall into the river he got mad, and instead of firing both John and Robert, he just fired Robert because he loved John too much. So they called a regular of John's and Ford's Lee Marvin to do Robert Mitchum's part.
Glad you mentioned Ward Bond first. Always got out of Hank Warden’s characters. Whole bunch of great supporting characters.
Thank you.
The greatest generation for sure.
Great memories.
Great upload, I’m a John Wayne fan having grown up in the ‘70s at the end of his career. My father was a huge fan. Wasn’t there a story about John Wayne presenting Ward Bond with a shotgun that he’d shot Bond with accidentally?
Surprised Victor McClaglen didn’t get a mention?
Harry Carey died years before Andrew V. MacLaglan started directing.
You forgot Victor McLaglen! 😮
my rocking chair ! moes
You forgot Victor Mc Laglen.
You forgot Two:
Denver Pyle in several JW movies and Mike Henry who was in the green berets and Rio lobo with JW, he was also jr justice in Smokey and the bandit.
Hank worden "the garden of Eden had it serpents too, follow me brother Col., thru the swamps, lead kindly lord." Horse soldiers.
Worden was also in the first Smokey and the bandit as a truck driver during "eastbound and down." Convoy.
Never have so few done so much for so many....
Doesn’t matter which movie I see Hank Worden in. He will always be Mose from The Searchers
You left out Chuck Roberson 1948 Red River, 1948 Wake of the Red Witch,1949 The Fighting Kentuckian,1950 Rio Grande, 1953 Hondo, 1956 The Searchers, 1959 Rio Bravo, 1960 The Alamo, 1962 The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, 1963 McLintock!1965 The Sons of Katie Elder, 1966 El Dorado, 1967 The War Wagon,1968 The Green Berets, 1968 Hellfighters, 1969 The Undefeated, 1970 Rio Lobo, 1970 Chisum, 1971 Big Jake, 1973 Cahill: United States Marshal, 1974 McQ. I think Johnny liked him too.
Wayne's kids were in a few of his movies also....
Olaf Wieghorst Danish painter and did a few none credit rolls
He did a few with Gabby Hayes.
Walter Brennan
You forgot one Dean Martin
You mentioned other movies made by some of his more obscure co-star character actors...but what about Bruce Cabot's most famous claim to fame -- you know, the movie he made in 1931...about a giant ape...gets shot down from the Empire State Building....?!!
Correction: 1933.
