      @HexIsme Před 6 lety +43

      She can't believe that others forgive/absolve her, because she can't forgive herself. It's not a healthy frame of mind, but I think the police should not have shown her anything. They should have left it at the principal had an accident in the hallway during the lock down and died, and left it at that.
      She doesn't realize that in order to do any of the things she thinks she should have done, she would've had to have been willing to risk her personal safety and the safety of the children around her. She did exactly what she was supposed to do, had the situation been what it was supposed to have been. The flaw was not in her, or even the system, it was in the circumstances. There's no way she should've been willing to roll that kind of dice given what she knew at the time. That's how people get their faces blown off.
      It's incredibly tragic.... but I hope she gets the help she needs, and *deserves*.

I have 3 kids and wouldn't be able to give them any kind of life like that. So I forced myself to do the things I couldn't over and over and I'm glad to say that 3 years later, other than the residual fear of certain driving situations, im fully functioning and dont even have panic attacks when I think about it anymore. Emily Carpio have you read the comments? She has so much support here. And also you can't stay that she'll be damp to continue her life feeling this way. As many people might come as have said, she can get the help that she needs and deserves. Many people suffer from PTSD and survivor's guilt. It is difficult and not easy to overcome, but with therapy and support you can ease the burden and live a happy life.

      AwesomeSpider4 i wasn’t trying to be controversial i’m just saying that at that level she might not recover. i hope that she does, but you can’t say she will and i can’t say she won’t. and i wasn’t. either is a possibility. I just put it as she will because to be honest, that’s a more realistic answer considering how long she’s been blaming herself.

    I felt so bad for the counselor in the school lock down story. All that guilt she has for a situation she couldn't prevent from happening. He likely would have died anyway regardless of whether she let him in from all that blood loss. Nothing she could have done would have prevented that. (Although I have no idea why the officers didn't just TELL her what happened instead of her watching the video.)
    She did the perfectly normal and appropriate procedure in a school lock down, anything less would have been unacceptable. (I was so annoyed when that Janet lady opened the door for her during the lock down because she "thought" the footsteps in the hallway was her friend. What if she had been wrong and it had been the shooter INSTEAD of her friend? I mean, really, she just gambled with the kids lives there.) You aren't supposed to let ANYONE in when a lock down is in place. NO ONE. Not even for someone you know who's at the door. Once the door is locked, it's locked until police arrive or you receive official word it's over. Otherwise, you take a chance at letting a potential shooter in and massacring innocent children and school workers.
    She only did what any other logical and professional adult would have done in the midst of a lock down and knowing innocent children's lives are entirely dependent on the next choice SHE makes. What could she do according to professional procedure? Take a chance at letting an unknown person in and killing the kids AND her friend and herself? (He never identified himself, all he did was bang on the door. For all she knew, that really could have been an active shooter like any other person logically would think in that scenario. I probably would.)
    No, she did what she had to for the sake of the kids complete and total safety. She didn't let him die. She was just protecting innocent school kids to the fullest of her ability and didn't want to take a chance at them being hurt in an unnecessary and avoidable manner.
    None of what happened is her fault. It truly is just a tragic accident no one could have avoided.
