Lyrics:
Working on the weekend baby
She's working all through the night.
A jump into the deep end,
Gave her the evidence she required.
Take five, she's got pearls,
Don't fake it when it comes to making money -
So... she smiles, but that's cruel
If you knew what she'd think, if you knew what she was after...
Sometimes she wonders... and she laughs in her frustration
Would someone please explain...
The reason for this strange behaviour
In exploitation's name...
We must be working for the skin trade.
Doctors of the revolution gave us, the medicine we desired.
Besides being absolutely painless it's a question of compromise
You've got steel, it's so cool,
Get angry at the weekend then go back to school
So big deal, it's what rules
When it comes to making money, say yes, please, thank you...
Sometimes you wonder, and you ask yourself the question
Would someone please explain...
The reason for this strange behaviour
In exploitation's name...
We must be working for the skin trade.
Would someone please explain...
The reason for this strange behaviour
In exploitation's name...
We must be working for the skin trade.
I know the answer... but I'm asking you the question...
Would someone please explain...
The reason for this strange behaviour
In exploitation's name...
We must be working for the skin trade.
Would someone please explain...
The reason for this strange behaviour
In exploitation's name...
We must be working for the skin trade.
Would someone please explain...
The reason for this strange behaviour
In exploitation's name...
We must be working for the skin trade. - Hudba
My son is 16 years old and I took the responsability to also teach him about good music. When I introduced him to Duran Duran he got captured by this song. This is his Duran Duran's favorite song!
This song was always underrated but I think true fans know how great this song is
Yes we do!♥️👄💋
Indeed
It definitely makes me think of 80s strippers.
Absolutely
i absolutely love it even now in 2023! 😍
These guys were on another level back then. And the production here is simply flawless.
They are still on a level with no other.
It sounds so sharp and clear, love it!
Answer:Nile
Rodgers
Notorius was a very good Album
Top 10 album all Time ..easy 👍♥️🇲🇫
Definitely their most underrated song. A masterpiece. It feels like a blazing hot day lost in the 80's.
Nile Rodgers really added funk to Duran Duran sound with his production... Notorious is underated album
Cucurullo was also essential here !
Yeah whole album is sexy as hell.
@@popstudioacademy5425 Best Duran Duran album in my records and this is 2023!!
@@popstudioacademy5425 Best Duran Duran album in my records and this is 2023!!
Never understood why this wasn’t a hit it’s soo good😭
It was a hit. Top 20 in us 🇺🇸 I think
@@timchandler4688It actually only hit number 39 in America.
Yes your correct. Technically it was a hit. Charted higher in 🇬🇧
Me neither. Its one of my go to songs if I'm near a juke box
Agree
This is their greatest overlooked song...that chorus is a gem, and Simon is playing it perfectly!
I love the way Simon sings in the beginning. His voice sounds like Prince's voice. This song is simply one of their best (among another brilliant songs).
His voice seems with George Michael voice
Yeah, it's right, the first time I heard this song on the radio I thought it was Prince
@@alanledesma4945 No shame in that at all. It's so good. This was actually their best phase as a band, and they weren't even popular any more.
Yeah, he didn’t do falsetto very much….
Thought it was a primce song when it came out
A totally unappreciated song by Duran Duran.
Their most underrated song to be honest. Rio, Girls on Film, and Hungry Like the Wolf are good, but so overrated...
And I love it!
American Science as well!
Beariful
Totally agree
This song still kicks ass today
Classic Duran Duran
They made they’re own sound and stuck with it. Love it
Thank You 🙏
Notorious ..great then....still great now
I love this song 🎵
It's hard to believe that this brilliant song did not do so well in charts back in 1986
Yeah, I agree...its a Favourite.
It made it to No. 22 in March 1987, I remember buying it in WH Smiths at the time and being surprised that it didn't chart higher than that.
My fave dd track and I only heard it a year ago
My fave
@@boyonthephone1 I only heard this song for the first time, a few months ago. Why didn't I discover this gem soone!
Simon and the boys never sounded so sophisticated! Always loved the Notorious album!!! The music is ageless!
True, although I'm a bit biased, these are childhood (well 14, 15 years old) memories for me.
Duran Duran got better with age.
Does not get better !!!
Nile Rodgers + Duran Duran was a wrecking ball combo! No No Notorious!

One of the best bands of the time...
Thank you on all the music videos
Hello !! lorraine howard how are you dear? always so kind with your reviews. A hug !! . Take care of yourself ;))
Hello i'm fine and take care and hug friend
***** Thank you so much my dear friend. For you too. :)
Hell yes.
I can actually hear every instrument in this brilliant song.
I have a friend that's in a community band that features many instruments and singers. They mostly do big band, r&b, etc. standards, but think this would be perfect!
finally, a cool african chick
That's because it was very well engineered in the recording studio
@@gjd9527 I believe your right, and that's a wonderful fact. Hope your new year was good. Bless you, and God bless America, my home., I have been listening to Duran Duran since 1985. I mainly listen to Rock and Blues. I sing Rock as well, check my page out, it's mostly cover songs though of my favorite bands and Artists.🇱🇷
That's because it has full dynamic range
RIP Tatjana.. Enjoyed her presence in this video
30 years on and this song still sounds so amazing. Great song and impeccable production.
I absolutely agree! Damn great tune!
It's the Nile Rodgers sound, baby...
sonido insuperable. Otras cosas avanzan, pero el sonido es perfecto. (Y eso que tengo un amplificador masomenos
This song is definitely sexy
And John is definitely PURE RAW SEX
Totalmente !!!
First thing I thought
John Taylor said when this song/video failed to chart properly he was done with/looking at the charts....he was disgusted that this song did not do well......
I know - I've been a big fan my whole life, but his ego/attitude at the time regarding this song turned me off completely from it. Perhaps it was too sophisticated for their audience or for the average consumer at the time. Either way, his comment just kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. He was heavily on cocaine at the time so whatever.
He was right.
It did make the US Top 40 in 1987, so it wasn't a bomb, but let's face it-it's not exactly a masterpiece even though I like some of the chords they use
Agree with John.
It’s their finest, IMO.
One of my favorite Duran Duran songs
Me too!
The best!
2024!
I think I just saw an angel 😱.John taylor is absolutely the most beautiful creature on this planet 😍😍😍
Perfect jawline😍
@@HD-er2cq You've got damn right!

John Taylor was gorgeous all right. He, along with 3 men of the 1950's. One a singing artist-- ELVIS.
The other two --
Jeffrey Hunter & John Derek, two incredibly BEAUTIFUL men. For me, Jeffrey tops EVERY man to ever walk on earth. ❤❤😍😍
it's true that John was clearly striking back in those days :D :D
A friend in the 00s once asked me where late 70s funk went in the 80s. I replied: Prince and Duran Duran. He laughed about Duran Duran until I played him some.
Duran Duran was the funkiest band of the 80s.
The 80s: _Lived 'em. Loved 'em. Miss 'em._
Oh I dunno...Level 42 carried the funk pretty well I reckon.
@@jonathanwhittaker677 oh Level 42 can funk very well.
Why would you miss them? They are still around and going strong.
Early Spandau Ballet and ABC too
One of their best songs, definitely underated and overlooked somewhat. I never tire of listening to it.
John Taylor's bass playing ability is criminally underrated.
He's a fuckin' awesome bassist 🤘🏻
Underrated song 🎶 full stop
@P Mc Agree with you. I see 'underrated' on here all the time, like those people are the only ones who've ever heard the music. Well said.
Don’t worry you know the real ones know!!
Ym
Without question the cleanest , most perfect mix I've EVER heard, of any song. Everything just pops out and punches you in the earholes. Simply amazing.
Jeremy Johnson The gated drums help a lot!!
You clearly haven´t heard Bathory...
That crisp Nile Rogers production
Simon's vocal range is AMAZING!
He Sang at Saint John Church in Pinner.
I think, not sure.
Rest in peace beautiful Tatjana Patitz. ❤
I'm convinced duranduran are the best band in the world my world 😜
Simon Cresswell Queen??
Simon Cresswell Same lol... always loved them!
@@vampir3doll Queen was good but not to those of us who grew up during this time in the 80s. For us Duran Duran was it!

John Taylor's bass playing ability is of biblical proportions!!
The trumpets are what makes this song.
Special Reconnaissance Regiment absolutely right
and it is even better on the album version!
lets not forget the girls!
And John is what MAKES THIS VIDEO.
No im pretty sure is Duran Duran
Will someone please explain, WHY this did not chart well back in the 80's????!!!!!
IKR
All I can say is what I sensed when it came out. Some fans didn't like this darker image of them at the time. Felt betrayed. Was silly. And I even used to. Get in arguments with guys in high school over the better Duran Duran.
Because the people controlling what did, or didn't, appear to do well in the charts were the "skin trade", obviously.
Prince didn't put SLAVE on his face for nothing.
@@sophieb3905 ciao Sophie
Too mature-sounding for the teeny-boppy section of the fanbase, too Duran-y for everyone else. It took until the Wedding Album before the mainstream was prepared to judge the band on its musical output rather than their legacy.
No need for someone to explain to me ... how great this slick sounding song is. Once more Duran Duran showed they were one of the key bands in the 1980s.
This song remember me when I was a child in 1987. Great times. Only school, homeworks and video games ... Hot summers, sea and phishing. I miss that thing because now everything is a skin trade
Duran Duran hit so big and hard back in the early 80s that you couldn't go anyplace without hearing something about them.. I liked them a lot but we were so oversaturated with them within a couple of years that I think people needed a break, I know I did.. I think that's why really good songs like this went largely ignored by so many.. This was underlined by the fact that there were so many other awesome artists and bands out during that time.. The 80s, as even young people are appreciating now, was a stellar time for future classic music and movies
Agreed, I could take or leave them in the early 80s but then they started coming out with brilliant stuff like this, and then later Ordinary World and Come Undone. They're a class act.
Duran changed and matured with this song . Took it to another level. I know this isn't what a lot expected but it was definitely the right direction to move into
Definitely a nod towards Prince :)
and a precursor to their 007 stint?
Very good Ear my Music Brother
Nile rodgers(chic) produced a view to a kill 1985 and skin trade 1986.

An immortal tribute to fabulous Tatjana Patitz. RIP.

My friends and I were in Venice, Italy in February 1987 at a club there when I first heard the single for Skin Trade. The DJ spun the record and played the video on a huge screen along one of the walls of the club. It was fucking magical, all the hot Italian girls squealing with delight as it played. Notorious was a splendid album in 1987. Duran Duran proved it was still the great band of that era, hands down.
cool story MC, I love when that shit happens.
Notorious was a splendid album in 1986, too. ;)
Que tal experiencia la que compartes. Desearía haber vivido esa época. Lamentablemente nací en 1983.
That was at the big room at Ca Zenardi. Those Italian birds....
Putain ! Venise j'y suis allée mais en 2009. En 1987 je n'avais que 13 ans. Je vous envie de les avoir vus la bas
My fav part of the vid when simon, john and nick are altogether they look gorgeous!!!
My favorite part of the video itself is the moment where they all have their heads together and it appears it cuts to the next shot JUST before I imagine the three of them cracking up laughing.
This is an amazing song and video even after all these years
ClaudiaU hell yeah! i love it

A truly brilliant British band, amazing song writers .
Pure Nile Rodgers. Duran Duran are mere artificial decoys here.
True about Nile Rodgers, black Americans have helped British rock n pop no end. The Stone heavily borrowed n stole from the blues and the mighty Queen influenced by Jimi Hendrix, (alot of bands were I know).
@@philiphalpenny9761 song is written by simon le bon.
@@philiphalpenny9761 as all duran duran songs are. There are the odd exception, with additional song writing, but few and far between. Indeed, the credit to Le Bon for words, vocal, harmony. You could argue bass is significant idenifier in this tune. So not sure i agree with your post. However steve ferrone on drums, and Nile Rogers on guitar .
Loving this even in 2020....seen them perform live twice and would love to see them tour again with a collaboration of classics from their catalogue of music 👍

If Prince wrote this it would have 100 million views. Fact.
+Sloth from The Goonies Actually, I think you've got a great idea. Prince should definitely remake this song.
+Sloth from The Goonies I completely agree with you. And also interesting you should say that. When an old friend of mine (no pun intended - fom) heard this song for the very 1st time, he asked it was by Prince. When I told him it was Duran he seemed surprised. But I do understand why my friend thought that, it does has a Prince-esque feel & vibe to it. I think it would be so cool to see Simon & Prince on the same stage singing this together. I've seen both Duran & Prince many times live, so I can only imagine how freakin' amazing that would be if they collaberated with each other...
Only problem is Prince doesn't want any of his songs on youtube! We can only find about 1 album
Luko 1999 Good point. If Prince wrote this song it wouldn't even be on CZcams xD
The band were actually 100% convinced that this was going to be the biggest hit on the album, poor judgement?
Simon doing his best Prince imitation...Perfection...

Love this song, remembers me as a kid making homework in a hot afternoon
It remembers me as a young doman looking for a work desperately
Remember when i was student
The video captures their most R&B groove. 1986, and the their first release "Notorious" almost reached #1 in the U.S. Yet this follow-up song was almost entirely ignored by the radio. Then "Meet El Presidente" met the same doom on the top-40 charts. Which goes to show that the United States was always culturally fickle.
I still love this song, all these years later. It should have been a bigger hit for the guys.
R.I.P. / D.E.P., TATJANA 😥

One of their more underrated songs. Sounds so crisp even after 33 years. A shame music like this wouldn’t get played today. People really missed out on a lot of good tracks.
This song definitely has a Prince vibe - the vocals, the keyboards, the guitars, etc. My favorite Duran Duran song right here! "Shotgun for the Wedding" also sounds a lot like Prince. Love it!!!
Me atrevería a decir que esta es una de las mejores canciones de Duran Duran. Gran video y lo mejor, una gran interpretación en vivo.
John Taylor's bass is working my nerves. Great song.
Love unconditionally John Taylor and his bass! ❤❤❤❤
Definitely an underrated tune! I love that this song has a particularly unique, almost playful, soul-like and jazzy sound to it. Simon Le Bon's vocal inflections here are masterfully utilized here. Love the trumpet and sax work, as well. True musicianship all the way!
One their most mature and ambitious album. Amazing bass & drums work by our beloved JT & SF... Simon was in great shape too and as usual, NR layed some great synths there too...
