  • In the process of repairing his ignition cylinder the customer ended up getting it stuck and broke it. He called us wanting us to finish the repair. I went to his place and was able to get the van started and drove to the shop and this where the video starts.

Worst part is that it is never the ignition cylinder.... The tip of the key wears away. I have fixed hundreds of these truck with a sticking or completely not working ignition. I cut new keys...... I figure out the key code and then cut the new keys. You can't copy the worn out keys.
For what he paid for the one part he should have been able to buy a complete column keys and all.

How often do we in the trade fix others attempts as DIY. And I too do not get alone with wood. Just saying, the old school guy.

When you use new keys what about the door locks? Will it work or you have to use old key or change them locks also?

The customer usually keeps an old key for the door lock or uses the remote

So my van just turns on without the key …… you can just turn the ignition cylinder and it’ll turn on

You must have something going on in the cylinder.

I don't remember which video on which channel I recently commented on, GUYS, we need to use a parts tray for engine rebuilders (in my case) to hold our parts, we need to take notes on what we do step by step more times than not, and other problems that are not a concern in this video but we are humans and we make mistakes and we are smarter than this and we can easily prevent mistakes by taking a few extra minutes to help ourselves and not lose billable hours to our own stupidity. If we do not care enough to run our professional lives as a robot then we can only blame our own dumb ass. I seem to remember that there are no non-billable hours in that other comment probably weeks ago but that was for training purposes if I remember correctly, we are not born with every repair procedure in our heads so we do get paid to review Service Info according to ScannerDanner & his is correct. This type of mistake, well we need to eat this one. We live in the 21st century, we do not need to be CZcamsrs to use the video camera on our cell phones that most of us own so we cannot make stupid mistakes like this when it can be recorded in some fashion even if we simply create a step by step by voice recording only.
I see that you can EDIT the hell out of your videos, on average, it is much appreciated by all viewers to keep videos in this field to under 20 minutes, long car repair videos tend to drive viewers away, call this a TECH TIP for CZcamsrs in this field, oh, look, I made another YT mistake, I repeated myself and then talked nonsense about repeating myself. Let's cut all that out.
I can hear the Rainman Ray in your speech, I love the channel also but that guy is so accident-prone it's crazy, I hope that part of his personality has not rubbed off onto you also?? I just watched RRR today and he showed his style for getting the steering wheel off with his legs and hands without any hammers, it's a recent video to this date as I am also all caught up on his channel as well. He changed out a clock spring. Thank you for this video with the manual way to clear the Security system on a GM, I have a few videos in my library for this so adding another one, much appreciated.
