  • In this video I have a look at a Chevrolet Trailblazer that was dropped off as a no crank. Ignition switches are a pretty common item on these. Let's have a look. -Enjoy!

I had a similar problem back in the day and it was fixed with a new ignition switch installation. My mechanic told me to never have ANYTHING other than the ignition key on the key ring. He explained that ANY extra weight hanging on the key ring ( including the electronic accessory fob) acts like a hammer on the switch,as it swings like a pendulum at every bump and bounce, as you go down the road and really screws with the switch.I love your channel Eric and Mrs O . you folks are great.

You do a FANTASTIC service for us with your videos, THANK YOU. I just had a situation with my 04 Silverado with the no crank no start. I had a new GM starter so I put it in. Same problem no crank no start, so I jumped the solenoid and it ran but I had limp mode trying to drive it and I had no heater blower, ABS and Brake and engine lights all on. My scanner was acting crazy giving me a bunch of fault codes. I was ready to give in and take it to a shop. It is very cold now here in Oklahoma and I don’t have a garage. I decided one last time I checked every fuse that had anything to do with ignition. I found under the hood a 40 amp fuse that had blown as it should when my starter gave up. It had caused all of this fault codes on my Chevy. None of you guys mentioned that if your starter goes and you replace it check all fuses. Thank you again.

Yes eric ,the BCM is the PMM - power mode master .
    Power Mode
The body control module (BCM) is the power mode master (PMM). Refer to Power Mode Description and Operation for more information.
    Serial Data Power Mode
On vehicles that have several control modules connected by serial data circuits, one module is the power mode master (PMM). On this vehicle the PMM is the body control module (BCM). The BCM uses 3 signals from the ignition switch. These are the Ignition 0, Ignition 1, and Accessory.
To determine the correct power mode the BCM uses:
    • The state of these signals
    • The sequence of switch closures received by the BCM
    • The status of the engine run flag

2006 TBSS here. Besides the switch, I'd also recommend some rear air suspension leveling components (or zip ties), and a spare transmission shifter bushing (or a zip tie). I found a guy who makes an improved bushing (and not the crappy Dorman or similar ones) and bought those. Oh, hell, and I've had 6 transmissions, so keep a spare 4L70 and TC around and rebuild it at your own pace before you need it. Zip ties don't help there.
