- LMS Jubilee class 'Leander' puts on a super show up the 1/59 & 1/47 Miles Platting Bank as it heads the Buxton Spa Express. Standard 4, 76084 joined the tour later on and the pair are seen in atrocious conditions at New Mills South Junction & Chinley. We did intend to get a shot at Peak Dale, but the weather and our morale had took a turn !
I hope you enjoy ! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
That has to be the best performance on Miles Platting Bank ever Liam...stunning work despite the appalling conditions.....Bob.
Thanks very much Bob, it was well worth the 5am start and I agree with you about the performance. 5043 came a close second, but that had nine on.
Nice video great camera work as usual I am really enjoying your lovely videos and camera work keep your lovely camera work up I am really looking forward to seeing your next video bye for now Philip
It's a pretty good haul up miles platting bank for a `jub` and after watching this video I was quite impressed by the power but just recently I watched an old BBC video of Jubilee class 5614 Leeward Islands from the 1940s leaving St Pancreas in London hauling a 15 coach train to Manchester Piccadilly, I never realised just how powerful these `jubs` are and to think they were only a 3 cylinder loco, when I was trainspotting back in the 1950s I never seen such spectacles, thanks for the great video.
The Jubilees - not a bad 'first attempt' by Stanier!!! Also, my favourite sounding of all that man's engines. Many thanks for posting. Paul.
Thanks Paul, they're certainly capable locos, though I prefer the Royal Scots.
Very good indeed - brilliant sound and terrific performance by a superb loco. Thanks, John
Thanks John, it was a great sight. Not often you get unassisted steam up there.
Another great video, many thanks for getting this up so very quickly, and for perservering in the wet weather.
Thanks Julian, you're very welcome.
Amazing. That's The Best Steam Footage I've Ever Seem. I Love How You've Used The Landscape To Enhance The Film' Well Done.
45690 made a cracking job lifting it's train up Miles Platting Bank , considering the load . Thank you for posting .
Cracking video, well done for braving the elements.
Thanks very much.
Cracking shots Liam, especially of course the climb of Miles Platting. So good to see a loco allowed to do the climb unassisted
Thanks Austin, I have been waiting patiently for years to get a shot up Miles Platting with no diesel and glad to of made the early start to witness a superb Jubilee performance.
Regards Miles Platting bank, the average ascent was 1 in 37 now that's steep for any loco, when I was trainspotting back in the 50/60s this would definitely have been a double header, it speaks volumes about the dedicated staff who tend to these magnificent locos and the class of drivers they have, sad to say most of British rail locos back then were poorly maintained so hardly ever reached their potential.
Excellent opening sequence and footage at New Mills South Liam!. Great video!
Thanks Nick, glad you enjoyed it all.
A fantastic opening shot with great sound too. You did well with such poor weather. Thanks for your hard work
Thanks as always Peter.
Thanks for ANOTHER fantastic video and for getting very wet and cold for our entertainment , it's much appreciated , I LOVE your videos . How I wish I could come ' Train spotting' with you 🚂🚂 Best Train channel on CZcams Liam .
Thanks as always Sue for your kind feedback. You are always welcome to come along, though the word 'Trainspotting' is frowned upon by us lol
Marsh Steam Videos™ Sorry Liam . Couldn't resist , I knew it would make you smile albeit a very wry smile 🤣 My husband used to call me an ' Anorak' which is worse IMO 🤦🏻♀️🤣. Sadly I'm disabled now and don't get out much . I rely on your magnificent channel to enjoy these wonderful engines now . Thank you Liam for hours of pleasure 🚂🚂
Your opening shot was brilliant , I could feel the power, it was a very nice video, THANK YOU
Thanks very much Ernest, great too see such raw power on display !
Fantastic footage all round matey, thanks for sharing :)
Cheers Phil, you're welcome.
Excellent footage, nice to hear steam locomotives working. Great work especially in the grotty conditions
Thanks Anthony, was a joy to see !
Thanks for your time and effort. Miserable weather and great shots. Well worth it from where I'm sitting. ;-) Thank you!
Thanks very much. I'm glad you enjoyed the shots regardless of the conditions !
Really shows the gradient, lovely sound.
Great footage Liam, you weren't wrong about Miles Platting; that did look and sound spectacular. Nice to run into you again at New Mills yesterday...Graham
Thanks Graham, good to catch up.
Thanks for sharing, 5 coaches back it was a Joy to hear.
Alan
Cheers Alan, must of been nice to be on board.
A great effort to video these superb locos in action. Superb viewing.
Thanks Bob, I had been looking forward to this tour for a while.
Splendid solo performance from Leander on Miles Platting Liam and great to see 76084 back in steam once more - one of my favourite standard classes. Considering the wicked weather conditions you experienced, I believe you did an excellent job of what managed to capture. However I can well understand your frustration in having to miss out part of your programme, had the same about month ago at Penrith! Best wishes! Ken
Thanks Ken, this was one performance I won't be forgetting ! The poor weather was annoying, but glad to of witnessed such a show from Leander.
The opening sequence of the 45690 leading that 10 car consist up the grade was amazing video and sound, well done and thanks for braving the cold rain for that double header.
Thanks for the kind comment Sharon, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Regards, Liam
Carriages/ coaches!!
Superb Liam and Phil , great sound from the Jubilee on MP and you did well in the difficult weather later on . I had planned MP myself but things contrived to change that .
Thanks Steve, glad you got to see the shot in end, A top performance from Leander.
More great work and under such trying conditions. Great effort.
Thanks Brian, the conditions were poor, but some sparkling loco performances brightened up proceedings. Regards, Liam
Fantastic video !
The opening on Miles Platting bank was incredible - in the early sixties I used to watch Austerity 2-8-0s hauling uncoupled coal empties up there and seeing Leander virtually sail up was fantastic. 76084 was a Standard type associated with Horwich Works. Not all the class were built there, just the best ones!
Thanks for uploading.
Thanks very much, I would of loved to been around in the days of steam up Miles Platting. Thanks for the comment.
Yeh miles platting bank brings back many memories, I've seen many a double header coming up the bank hauling the Liverpool-Newcastle, back in the 1950s even double headed `jubs` and now to see a single Jubliee class engine hauling this long train up this 1in47 bank speaks volumes for the maintenance of this class locos and all credit to the drivers, with living in Manchester this was my old hunting ground along with Newton Heath loco shed, I now live in Australia but look back with fond memories.
What a wonderfully even beat from Leander!!!!
Nice video
stunning stuff!
It certainly was Sam. Thanks for watching.
I just loved the Miles Platting shot with the Manchester skyscrapers as a backdrop. Well done that man! I love Jubilees but hate the black livery for Leander. I remember how much I loved the red she was in at East Lancs Railway.
Thanks Keith, would be nice to see Leander back in that guise.
Excellent climb by the Jubilee on Miles Platting Liam and the weather looked to turn on you later in the day.
Regards Phil.
Hi Phil, a top performance from the Jube and thankfully the weather didn't spoil the shot early on despite things taking a turn for the worst. Thanks for the comment.
hi i did driver days on it twice on elr when red what a fabulous engine thank you
Awesome!
Fantastic
Superb!
Thanks Christopher.
Fantastic, well shot.
Regards PP
Thanks Peter, your feedback is much appreciated.
Amazing video there 😁😁☺️☺️
Thanks very much.
I was there at New Mills South ☺️ Didn't know you were there
That Miles Platting spot is so good
Thanks Keir, not as good as it used to be, now they took the bridge away.
Hi Liam, very good indeed , I know why you went home looking at those 2 hot fires ..Dave
Thanks Dave, two hot fires sounded very good at the time !
lol ,cheers..Dave
Brilliant. We saw it at Davenport.
Cheers Richard, no doubt a fine spectacle.
making a superb sound. Funny isn't it, those by the lineside get a much better chance to appreciate it than those actually on the train, with hi viz jacketed heavies forcing you to remain in your seat for Safety Reasons.
Plus of course the first four coaches are always for Luxury Dining, who really wouldn't care less if it was a Class 67 on the front and probably think that it's The Flying Scotsman.
I have to agree with you Anderi. I have both ridden and chase the N&W 611 here in the states and chasing is the best experience. Heck I really couldn't even tell there was a steam engine on the front of our 22 car train.
Depends where you're sat Andrei, and what loco is up front. Last year we sat two coaches behind Royal Scot on the Torbay Express and the sound was superb. Standard class should always be closest to the loco as that's where most of the hardcore enthusiasts sit ! If I was dining, the bare minimum I would expect was steam passing my windows !
I STILL SEE PEOPLES HEADS OR JUST HANDS HOLDING CAMERAS OR CAMCRDERS OUT OF WINDOWS ON RECENT RAILTOURS ON YOU TUBE SINCE THE CHANGE. BUT YOU MUST SURELY BE ALLOWED TO FILM FROM DOOR WINDOWS IF YOU ONLY PUT A HAND OUT HOLDING A CAMCORDER, THAT IS TOTALLY SAFE, SO IS THAT OFFICIALLY ALLOWED ??. BUT IN THE PAST I HAVE SELFISH BRATS OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER WHO HOG THE FRONT COACH FRONT COACH FRONT DOOR WINDOWS WITH ALL THEIR TOP HALF RIGHT OUT BLOCKING THE VIEW OF THE STEAM LOCO FOR OTHERS AND I HAVE HAD MANY DAYS OUT TOTALLY RUIED BY THESE TERRIBLE MORONS WHO SHOULD COPMPENSATE THOSE WHOSE TRIPS THEY SELFISHLY SPOIL BY THEIR DANGEROUS AND SELFISH ACTIONSA. BUT DESPITE ME MAKING COMPLAINTS BY EMAIL TO PRESERVED RAILWAYS, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT THESE AWFULL PERSONS WHO SHOULD BY RIGHTS BE BANNED FOR LIFE FROM ALL PRESERVED RAILWAYS AND OFF ALL RAILTOURS. I CAN NOT GET ANYWHERE FOR AWHILE, LOSING MY LEFT FOOT AND LOWER LEG MID MARCH 2016 IN A VERY RARE THROUGH THE KNEE AMPUTATION, DUE TO POLIO AND RHEUMATIC FEVER AT AGE 8. BUT IT WILL BE A VERY LONG EXTREMELY HARD HAUL TO GET BACK TO BEING MOBILE AGAIN. I WILL BE FROM EARLY MAY 2017 UNDER A CONSULTANT SURGEON AT TE U K ' S BEST ORTHOEPEADIC HOSPITAL THAT DEALS WITH LIMBLESS PEOPLES PROSTHETICS, THE ROYAL NATIONAL ORTHOEPEADIC HOSPITAL BROCKLEY HILL STANMORE N E LONDON, FAR BETTER THAN A BASIC PROSTHETIC CENTRE JUST UNDER THERAPISTS AND A DOCTOR WHO IS NOT A CONSULTANT SURGEON, WITH NO SURGERY OR X RAY FACILITIES.
The trouble with that is if everybody did it there would be no money to run the locos. And I'm a fine one to talk, sitting here in Greensboro NC. Thank goodness for youtube and the many skilled people who post videos of British steam. I do run a gauge 1 live steam model of 35028 in my back garden though! It is both powerful and greedy like the real locos!
Fantastic video & sound! What camera are you using?
Thanks very much, cameras that are used are, Panasonic VXF990 & X920.
quality as always
Thanks Nigel, all the best.
Great Video, I have subscribed.
Thanks very much. All the best.
Take the `PC` out of the equasion.....and you then can relax and truly enjoy the `steam` experience? Nice footage...more please!
Great video mate. It a shame that the weather forecast today is not that great.
Thanks Joe. The weather was not on our side, but the locos put on a good show.

Very sorry I haven't commented before just superb thank you so much Very Big Like!
Can someone tell me whether a Black 5 has, or has not, been recorded producing more EDHP than a Jubilee. Thanks
Yeh good question, I would like to know the answer to this, very interesting.
anyone know why it became black when its always been red or is it just a different engine with leander plopped on it
Owners preference ? I imagine it will return to red after it's next overhaul !
on my birthday
they are fab machines but you can tell y the dirty things had to go,and y is leander black now instead of red
great video
should have come over to Yorkshire weather was tropical
not
cheers
Thanks, typical February weather ! But a great show to brighten up the day.
