“If I keep my body moving and my mind occupied at all times, I will avoid falling into a bottomless pit of despair.”
... Oh, Chris.
You never know you’re at the bottom until after you’re out of the hole :/
Same, except I don't keep moving
he says it with such positivity
He ain't lying. That's how I got over break up blues.
Wow! That line is so real unless you get help, I know....
It's crazy how he is the most accurate representation of mental health struggles on TV, because seemingly he is so normal. Even perfect. Great body, great looks, optimistic personality, great job, wealthy and yet he has his demons and I love how its treated so normally and his progression from realizing the importance of mental health to actively seeking out help and trying to get better. Such a healthy representation!! I love Chris.
this show has the best characters ever
It is LITERALLY the best representation
It's also nice that they show that April's little pep talk did absolutely nothing for him, but his first instinct was to act as though it helped to get rid of her.
Also his drive essentialy being born as a sick child driving him to always be healthy and in shape is an accurate and realistic depiction
@@KyleRayner12 yeah that...i'm not fine it didn't work....
I like how April freaks everyone out but she’s freaked out by Chris.
Same with Orin
@@kevinli9395 that's why they are friends
@@kevinli9395 Chris Freaks Orin out.
This is exactly why I wish we had had more scenes with Chris and Orin
"there is no more tissue. everything ends. everything goes away."
best inference ever
No, no, there’s more tissues 😂
Dang, I can’t believe I didn’t realize how bad his anxiety was. It was a great depiction! But at the same time, juxtaposed with his ever-smiling nature, you kind of just think it’s not that big of a deal until all these moments get compiled like this. Now I’m sad for Chris.
He gets better! Celebrate his better mental health!
@@shehansoysa571 Yeees!!! ❤️
People are always fooled by a smile
Smile through the pain
Also fake it until you make it
Chris was that character you hated at first but then you gradually liked him more and more to a point where you can't imagine the show without him
I liked him from the start
So true! When he was first on the show I couldn’t stand him. But over time, he became my favorite character!
What, you hated him!
Ethanol he dipped
There’s literally three seasons without him.
I like how they did Chris. So happy and seems like they would never have depression. Great writing
Like Mr Peanutbutter
That's how it works tho. Depression can strike anybody
@@GoodOne917 I know. That's why I liked how they wrote him. Just how depression works... 🤨
“Dave Matthews Band”
“Dave Matthews Band” gets me every time lmao
Real fans call him Dave
When he said it was terrible news that doctors found nothing, I felt that. I always look for physical reasons just to find out that it is all mental.
Literally me today. 😭
Me all over 🤣👍💖
Mental reasons are valid and should be taken just as seriously.
@@ErinLastNameRedactedNo one is claiming they aren't. But physical problems can be fairly straightforward to treat. A pill, a surgery, a change in diet. But mental issues are so much harder, and may never be actually fully beaten.
Opening line: anxiety has kept me up for 50 hours *broken smile*
Him and Chidi are just the biggest forking mood.
especially Chidi's Nihilism faze
But who's better?
@@unforeseeable2.058 tuche
@@notasalmon238 dou-chay
Oh my god, yeah.
Although Chidi would probably be friends with Ben too
I love how Chris casually reveals he's climbed Everest
Wait what
@@lukethompson2714 7:50
??? he said that was a goal
Not yet. Go back and watch it.
Yeah. This is the same guy who said he wanted to live to be 150
The dog licking his tears as he says words of encouragement toward him, been there.
I think very few shows have actually represented high-functioning anxiety. And it is groundbreaking to do it with a male character than the easy route of doing it with a female character. Parks and Rec deserves more appreciation.
I like how he slowly lowers the amount of times he goes to therapy as the show goes on
True, tbh
He also had more breakdowns as the show went on. What’s there to like?
@@kissit012 idk if this was the intention, but often you have to break yourself down and build yourself back up when working on yourself. This can lead to breakdowns or being more vulnerable so you're easily set off
"My mouth feels like Spaceship" Chris is literally the most positive anxietic blob of muscles.
Homie definitely got coca paste smeared on his gums lol
Anxious?
Chris realizing he needs to go to therapy is THE BEST THING EVER MY HEART -
This dude reminds me too much of my bipolar disorder. Especially the part where he’s like “I need to keep moving unless I’m gonna be left alone in my thoughts and go into a huge depressive episode”
Yeah i hate being alone with my thoughts, so i keep thinking a lot of things to distract me from being silent. It's really hard to fall asleep when the silence is killing you inside.
Same....
Touche.
Wow. I don't remember him having quite this much anxiety.
I know, right? It's much more intense seeing it all compressed into one video instead of seeing it sprinkled throughout several seasons of the show.
Right!? When you see it in bits and pieces, it doesn't seem like so much, but all strung together, that guy was a mess!
Maybe thats it, anxiety comes from cycles
The worst part is that hes probably at this level internally 90% the time. But he wouldn't wanna bring others down so these are just the moments where he Can't hide it.
I always saw him as a high-strung guy running on pure neueotic adrenaline
When Chris was introduced, I could have never imagined how much I would, literally, love him.
@lr 21 Seriously
@lr 21 You're *
"Hey Ann" one of the few times he's said Ann not Ann Perkins
That's how you know he's broken.
i lost my ABSOLUTE GODDAMN MIND when that happened.
Chris was the epitome of "put on a smile for the world" because he always seemed like he could break at any time but deep inside, he had some many fears and insecurities. That's truly what leads to depression and anxiety issues. It's not the stereotypical super moody and silent type that suffers from mental health issues but those that may seem the happiest.
That's partly true although there are some people who are just happy a lot, and obviously people who don't seem happy and aren't. And pretending to be happy is not what led to his issues, that's how he tried to cope with them.
Chris is one of those people who you assume is happy but then find out one day they committed suicide
5:11 “no no no, I’m not lonely I have me” I LITERALLY love that quote
When I first watched it years ago, I thought Chris was not focusing on the positives. Now I cannot think of anyone I relate more to. Especially the fact that you keep doing the right things, try everything you can actively want to change with all your heart but despite all the efforts, you can't genuinely become happy or accept yourself.
If Chris is 44 and plans to live to 150, and Dr. Harris says in order yo accomplish that Chris has to go back to being 20, then Dr. Harris is saying he expects Chris to live to be 126. I’d see that as an absolute win.
The arithmetic checks out. 👍
chris at 6:10 not being able to run after his existential crisis is so relatable - and it's exactly how i feel when i'm out running, and then not being able to because of the same reason(s).
I hope you're feeling better now. Also you should try bicycling it's a better way to get places and is more relaxing imo.
7:20 Tom being a wonderful friend 😊
For the first and last time in the series
@@jonttopia he was occasionally a good friend to Ben too and to Leslie. Remember the time he pushed Jamm into the pool when he tried to humiliate her infront of a bunch of kids!
Tom actually has a heart.
That ethics trial scene hits... Trying to control your mental health with vitamins and pills and smoothies and trying to get a grip on something that isn't easily solved by that. The show signified that hypochondriac tendencies also relate to mental health problems, and I've never seen that before!
I would say being a hypochondriac is a mental health problem.
"So sad, like a perfect storm of emotions", I'll be using this phrase in the future
chris traeger is a perfect metaphor for my slowly deteriorating mental health
Hey, I hope you've seek some help, but if you haven't, please do!
When I was younger I laughed at how weird Chris was acting.
Now I exude a mixture of laughter and crying because I relate too much.
Chris is LITERALLY a mood rn
DR. RICHARD NYGARD!!!!!!!
I love the line where Leslie says she always suspected that Dr. Richard Nygard was just Chris talking to his own reflection!
Him being all over the place about how often he sees his therapist is so on brand
April and Andy giving Chris Champion may be the most wholesome moment in all of TV history. Can't change my mind.
I am low-key worried about the writer (and I'm convinced it is a single writer) who wrote Chris's lines about anxiety.
This part of Chris' life is all my life
It’s almost like stressing over stress ISNT an effective way to relieve stress.
Now how do I stop? 🙃
I saw way too much of myself in this compilation. I'm having a horrible week mentally. This did make me feel better though, seeing someone else struggle with similar issues.
Me too
Hope you are doing better now!
Therapy will definitely help and things will eventually get better !
I love how Tom recommended Chris see therapy, definitely something everyone should considers. Even if you feel there isn't anything wrong with you, it can help alot to work through thoughts
That said it isn't healthy how he was seeing him several times a week
This is actually, sad, relatable, and motivating at the same time.
I like how champion was just like “I’m here for ya Chris.”
The comp really puts his depression in highlight
Might rewatxh again
*My anxiety has kept me up for over 50 hours*
🙋♀️ me
Rob Lowe literally did such a great job in this role!
I used to not understand Chris's characterization but seeing this mini version helped amplify his struggles and I get it. I respect you Chris.
If I'm alone with my thoughts, i go to a dark place.
This
9:18 they predicted it
“hi, how are you?”
“I’m dying.”
Relatable
This time the giant spider got caught in *my* web. Progress.
I live with panic disorder and this is p much me without my meds lmao "& now my mouth feels like a space ship" 😂
If I keep my body moving and my mind occupied at all times it will keep me from falling down the bottomless pit of despair.... honestly dude the same
You can't live forever like that. You will break. You have to stop, look into your fears and listen to them, because thats the only thing they want. To be heard. You are basically tearing yourself apart by ignoring part of yourself. Therapist can help with that
When you string it all together like this... holy cow. 🤣🤣
The microchip has been compromised
Thought I related most to Leslie, then Chris arrived
"Dave Matthews Band"
"Dave Matthews Band"
Kills me every time
6:29 "Nothing. The Silent Killer."
Has someone whos going through some mental health issues right now I feel like I understand Chris a whole lot more.
It may be a cliched phrase, but I promise it really does get better! I hope you feel better soon homie! :)
Dark places are awesome.
Wisdom right there from April.
02:57
I relate too much with this man. I get lots of panic attacks and my thinking process and actions are very similar to his so he's like my comfort character now. :)
well you’re amazing, and try to take some time for yourself!
When I first saw chris i knew i would love him
I never thought I would grow up to be Chris Traeger, yet here I am. You can't really feel the pain inside if your whole body is hurting after exercising.
Tbh, the pain inside ways win.
@@ninalovegood Well I hope you decided to go to therapy or just talk to someone about your feelings, there are people in your life who'd be willing to listen I'm sure.
His love for Champion literally makes me cry .. dogs are amazing, mine saved me from depression ... we don’t deserve dogs
ngl chris carried the show, he’s a really good character. i like how the writers did him, it made me realise now his depression and anxiety are all so accurate in the real world. makes you feel sorry for the guy.
Chris is exactly how I feel 24/7
Now that im in my . child, his stayement and anxieties about it are very real..and the bit about having a medical issue as an infant hits close to home fir me as well. I needed heart surgery at 7 months old. Every day is a gift and i have anxiety about wasting my time
I like to make the best use of my time too, but remember you can do that better if you take care of yourself (treat yo self!). And you do have worth as a human being even if you're not able to accomplish all you wanted to.
You've got.. lots of friends.. somewhere..I assume.. you're just fine!!😄
The most unrealistic thing about this, was that the dog didn't try to steal the food on the plate. Whenever I'm eating right next to my dog, she is literally crawling over me to get to my food. Whatever is it. 🤣🤣
I can’t see Chris will be over 100 when his emotions will most likely kill him. The up/down is neck breaker
Nothing - the silent killer
1:04 me when I step on my dogs paw
Never introducing Dr. Richard Nygard was a brilliant move, all you know is that Chris sees him 3 times a day, every week 😂
Man, especially after watching this compilation I notice how similar I am to this guy. Should I be worried?
yes, go to therapy it helps I promise
I agree. Therapy is really helpful
If you're similar to him, it's not a question of whether you should be worried... You're already worried
Geez, I didn't see all these wholesome comments. Thanks all. It's good to know the internet isn't a complete cesspool at times.
I did sign up for therapy a few weeks ago and it really helps already. Again, thanks so much for the helpful comments. Hope you have a great day :)
@@BiggusNickus yay! Good luck!
10 minutes of an absolute mood
Chris lowkey has poetry about his character. I was always watching this show on and off, and I always avoided Chris’ scenes but I’m seeing now that that was an error
This man killed this role can't knock the man's art.
Ann Perkins,April Ludgate,Leslie Knope,Donna Meagle,........I always loved how he called everyone by full name!
Why is he so relatable
“Dr. Harris, you are LITERALLY the meanest person I have ever met.”
How have they never shown Dr Richard Nigard?
Probably because it wouldn't make sense to have a camera in his therapy session.
"I'm not fine!,it didn't work"hahaaha!!! Sooo true 🤣
3:25 me trying to reassure people after they give me a consoling speech even though it didn't make me feel better
It makes total sense why Orin was freaked out why him,,,the deep dark inside Chris is far beyond
4:47 literally have never heard anything more relatable.
I sort of feel really bad for Chris :(
He’s such an ENFJ
4:45 May be one of the most relatable things I’ve ever heard.
If you guys have seen Rob Lowe on 911 Lone Star, I'm more than happy to say that he is still literally Chris Traeger even on that show
Remember when April thought Dr. Richard Nygard was fake until Craig said he was seeing him? 😂
"Dave Matthews Band!"
"Dave Matthews Band."
😁
If only we all could have a Dr. Richard Nygard in our lives
Who else has noticed that every time Anne runs into Chris she makes some sort of attempt at getting away.
Everyone on the show wants to avoid him
@@umbrellacorporation9168 The question is are the avoiding the character Chris Traeger or the actor Rob Loe.
i relate to him a lot and watching him get better makes me feel so much better!
There’s very little about Chris I can relate to, except every SINGLE mental health struggle he has. Out of tissues… “EVERYTHING ENDS!” 🤣🤣🤣❤️
It's interesting, I relate to being kind of energetic and I like to keep moving but not to his mental health struggles fortunately. Anyway I hope things get better for you!
I empathize with Chris so much. Too much.
Lets not forget Jean Ralphio. He's constantly saying he's "so alone" or "so sad"
I didn't notice that, but he probably is sad, he's a terrible person because he was spoiled. I often feel bad for awful people because they would often be happier if they lived like their life had meaning. They annoy me as well of course.
awww poor Chris...
I am glad they gave him happy ending
Rewatching parks and rec, these scenes really motivated me to go back to therapy 😭
