Do they explain why he carved the cross into the boys forehead at the beginning of the movie? I haven't seen this yet, this is coming from me having watched the recap video, only. It sounds like they tried to make the villain sympathetic, but them torturing the boy at the beginning of the movie would make it almost impossible for me to sympathize later in the film. Again, this is just going off of the recap video.
carving a cross into Nat’s forehead and letting him live was Rufus true revenge on their father, driving their father’s good son into the same outlaw lifestyle that he was trying to run away from. While Rufus could have just let Nat live and go into the outlaw life due to his anger and resentment, the gang leader scarred him to always remember his face when he came back for his inevitable revenge.
Actually at the end of the movie, when rufus is confronted by the boy...hes says he carved th cross on his head to recognize him if he should come for revenge many years later
It’s so he would be able to identify his little brother when he comes for him for revenge.
