It is a show about monsters, no one is innocent. Here, you just pick your favorite monster.

That statement from Santiago was meant to be him downplaying the severity of the harm caused. Almost a satire of an abuse trial. Lestat even called it out.
Obviously no one here is squeaky-clean but that doesn't mean everything they do is okay, either.

@@lkcullen1918 Nothing they do is okay/good. Once in a blue moon when they do something good, it's towards their immediate circle, rarely the outside world. Louis has stopped killing humans, and that was laughed at on trial. However there's always been a darkness in Louis, mad even, that's why Lestat was drawn to him in the first place. Lestat hurting Louis was something HE felt guilty for, he still likes doing bad things and if it was anyone else he did it to he wouldn't care, b/c it was never about a crossing the line, going too far, or making a grand stand on da, it was only about Louis pain, and his pain alone

I'm pretty sure the show is making fun of that line of thinking lol the tone of the scene is very obvious, they are monsters but there also can be an imbalance of power between them and that imbalance always ruins their relationships.

    • @tamebaker7888
      @tamebaker7888 Pƙed 8 dny +2

@@thatveryvvitch_ The line of thinking is there not to excuse the action but to understand they are not like us. "they are monsters, they are inherently demonic" is the base of their very being, but seeing that they can do good, understanding when something is not right is the beauty of this show. Throughout the mountain of bodies we swim through in this series, there's light there.

@@tamebaker7888 sure, they drink human blood and they're monsters, but they weren't born that way, they're monsters amongst humans but within their own kind they act as humanly as us, they suffer, they love, they hurt each other, they feel jealousy and they can inflict abuse, I think the fact that Lestat's apology comes right after Santiago tried to justify his actions as something kind of unavoidable because of their monstrous nature was a very straightforward way of telling the audience "yes, they are supernatural beings but there can still be some accountability", I mean, Louis and Claudia are on trial after all, that alone is telling us that even if they're monsters they're still adhering to human ideologies, I do believe Lestat was being very honest and he felt guilty for a long time for the pain he caused Louis (and the same can be said for Louis and the pain he caused Claudia), if they were completely detached from their humanity (like those revenant vampires they encountered in ep1) they wouldn't be able to experience such feelings, as for the second part of your message, I do agree with that and I think is a very spot on description of what the writers are trying to convey in my opinion.

Vampires' perception of time and movement to the normal world around them is considerably different. They move at breakneck speed, appearing almost like they've merely teleported to the human eye. Look at Season 1 Episode 1 it'll give you some idea 💡 of what I'm talking about.

I don’t think lestats truth is 100% or Louis’. The truth is somewhere in the middle. They were doing everything to make Louis look the worst. I think lestat did tell him that Claudia would suffer as a child vampire but he defo didn’t mention laws to him out of the blue in my opinion. He doesn’t care about laws. I’m also not sure about louis dragging her across the floor. And the fight Louis fought back yes but he was fighting after lestat choked Claudia. And he may have said those things but may not have been as manic or deranged as lestat would remember him as the most cruel possible. It didn’t matter what louis said lestat did that as he didn’t want louis to abandon him.Either way lestat dragged him across the floor by his throat, sucked his blood then flew him and up dropped him. Doesn’t justify it. Loved this ep even if my heart broke.

They are all monsters. Lestat wasn't trying to please anyone saying what he said to Louis. It's a drop in the ocean for all the things he's done and will continue to do. There is no morality with monsters, just a set of rules that are made to be followed or used for one's own gain/benefit. Louis choosing NOT to kill us (humans) was laughed at b/c it's not in the rules. This show is about the little things they do that are good and the beauty in the worst of creatures. Claudia's death was b/c she was the embodiment of rule breaks.

@angelaholmes8888 Except that wasn't "Lestats side". That was a rehearsed script, edited and re-edited, by.... someone else.... in an attempt to paint Louis specifically as the "monster", in order to justify their execution and exonerate Lestat. We only saw a few glimpses of Lestat going off script and being honest, and he clearly wasn't happy with the script or portrayal either. And that's not even getting to the fact that this entire trial is still just a memory that's being re-told, more by Armand than Louis. And if we've learned anything by this point, it's that Armand cannot be trusted... This was not "Lestats side", we won't actually be getting that, till the next 1-2 seasons.

Lets remember that when Louis saved Claudia from the fire he was going through a downward spiral, he killed an important person in town which started riots and burning of black neighbourhoods. Louis felt extremely quilty. He wanted to save someone. He wasn't mentally stable at the time which this new scene hammers home even more. Great episode! Absolutely heart breaking!

Claudia's death was less horrifying and more merciful than the one she tried to give Lestat. She wasn't poisoned. Her throat wasn't cut. She wasn't tossed in the dump like trash. Plus, if she'd gotten her way, Lestat would've been incinerated alive. Oh, and Lestat didn't manipulate her companion into betraying and murdering her. All in all, I'd say Claudia got off pretty easy.

God, this episode wrecked me. I still can't watch their death scene without crying. Everyone is complicit in her death, Louis included. During my first watch, I was terrified that Madeleine was going to choose the coven over her because Madeleine had told Armand in the previous episode that she's a survivor and Claudia also wanted her to. I was so relieved when Madeleine chose Claudia. Claudia deserved that.

Exactly. Episode 5 of season 2 was kind of preparing us for the revisiting of season 1 episode 5 in this episode. We SAW how verbally cruel Louis can be when he decides to dig into a significant other during an argument... So what he said was very much in character with the character we have seen in this show so far. Lestat technically started that fight by grabbing Claudia ...but he was SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than Louis and knew that and so he was holding back... He only genuinely started fighting back against him AFTER Louis after egged him on by threatening to cut his head off.

I swear every episode of this left me fucked up for at least a week-- i'm still recovering. I feel like this was the gnarliest, ugliest episode of divorce court and a horrible, horrible lynching all wrapped up in one. The horror of it is just unparalleled and it FEELS real bc of how, above all, human they are. People say they are monsters, but really i think their most flawed traits that make them horrifying are also what makes them human. Like Lestat's fear of abandonment, Louis' vindictiveness coming out when he's feeling cornered, Claudia's fascination with death to the point she kept kill list (Rest in Power to the best vampire the world has ever seen), Armand's control freak tendencies and manipulations, and also everyone's myriad mental health issues. Like they're all a demonstration of what would happen to us if time didn't ease pain or death didn't come for us sooner. What Armand said in ep 3-- "100 years, yesterday? What is time to a vampire?"" There's no real closure that can happen if you're a vampire, and you can't move on from shit that people did to you bc while humans can say, "Oh, i need to make up with this person, life is short" vampires are fully aware that other vampire is gonna stay alive and still be on their bullshit a hundred years, even a thousand years later. The only thing that keeps them united together is their agonizing fear of being alone. (sounds like most marriages lol)
I liked your viewpoint, which I feel like a lot of people overlook when it comes to Louis, that Louis can't really control his emotions when he's feeling extremely vulnerable-- he kind of blacks out and exhibits behavior that makes it very clear that he's mentally ill and in constant suffering. Like, something in him just breaks, and he falls apart. So much of his life, dissociating so hard without really trying bc life has always been so painful for him-- too painful to be fully present and assertive as his full self all the time. I think he really loved and wanted to protect his brother Paul bc of this understanding and personal experience with mental illness, and it's why Paul loved and trusted him enough to go to him and share a bed with him, crying when he was upset. I relate to Louis' dissociative episodes bc times in my life that i've been pushed into being very angry or I'm just very sad and triggered, I legitimately don't remember what I say or do and I am apparently very uncharacteristic and unsettling to witness-- like people can see it in my face that i'm not all there and i might have an actual breakdown. (never violent or anything, just vicious yelling, crying, or kind of insane laughing)
I LOVE this version of Louis, though-- I call him Crazy-Girl Louis. It's scary sometimes, but mostly i'm like LET IT OUT, babe, tell them how you feel!! It's like watching him in therapy. I wish he could get ACTUAL therapy that would work bc he needs it. 😭
Lestat was so cunty with it when he walked out on the stage, I was like, Daddy CHILL. 😂 But the way he was lying about how they met (even though i know it was probably what he had to say for the script he didn't want to read, whatever, I'm still mad) painting Louis as this super aggressive, dominant person (all these not-so-coincidentally Black Male stereotypes used to fearmonger and justify racialized violence) when those traits are 100% Lestat's, and always have been-- and the way the audience ate that shit up bc they wanted to see Louis as a villain, made me SICK. Even when Lestat was like, "no there's nothing worse than what I've done to this man," they still wanted Louis dead and only had sympathy for Lestat.
And then the rats box-- the first time I saw that rat box, I was like, "aw, hell naw, i know this is going to be used for even more evil, and I don't want to see it." And I was right. That instantly made me wish for the death of everyone in that fucking coven. I can't believe they did that our baby. 😱 And the rocks box!!!!! What is it with them and evil boxes!?!!?
Anyway, adoring your reactions. Can't wait for ur finale reaction. 💜

I think if I had to sum up the whole series so far - it is that memory is a monster. That line comes up in the first season and is the theme of the second. The whole show is like the movie Rashomon where we see the same events from different characters’ perspectives and we only really understand generally what has happened when we think about those perspectives together.
