Nowadays the farmers deserted farming and sold the acquired free land for money and are now struggling for living, now they are asking govt for free compensation with out working.
I have seen, during 1959 - 1970, with my own eyes the great bondage of reciprocal love, care & concern between the Iyer families and the kudiyanavargal. I, didn't see any kind of discrimination between the two classes, despite untouchability practice. Not only Brahmins, but also kudiyanavargal who didn't have any objection for that practice, since true love, concern & care shown by Iyer families of Keelkudi towards their Kudiyanavargal, had an overwhelming effect. After, 1974, I didn't have any opportunity to visit this great village of love, trust, care, openness & concern which was in abundance.

Even my family owned lands and we also treated them respectfully. Tee owned atleast till 1990. We sold our lands but we maintained relationships with the workers closer to our family. One of the old worker who had some eye problem at his old age, we found him a doctor and took care of all his medical bills. Later years 1997 his age was almost to 100 , my marriage was fixed . My parents went to his house and gave new veshti, money for hom and have his son new veshti , shirt , money , his wife new saree and money and for his grand kids money do that gather can buy them dress of their choice . With a thammbulam plate , bananas and betel leaf and those dress and my marriage invitation , we incited him for my marriage. He couldn’t come but he sent his son (he also worked in our family lands ) and his family to my marriage.
I am also from the same Keelkudi Village. My father Shri Athmanatha Iyer was Perungkasavayal Karnam. I was born in 1954 in the House of Shri Subbaraya Iyer in the same Agraharam of Keelkudi, which was later owned by Inga Iyer ( Venkatrama Iyer)who was village karnam of Vattatur.
It's disheartening to see the supposed agraharam swiped out clean without Trace How Glorious it must have been in those days?. I'm not a brahmin but I have a deep regard for the brahmin community. My ancestral village is situated near an agraharam( now gone and is ocvupied by members of a different community). It was a serenade.

They left sanskrit as dead language and learned English and moved to work in British capitsls like Trichy, Tanjore as cleks. When they leave, they did not sell the land to these poor slave workers but to wealthy chettiars. These ancestors of this old man slowly bought from chettiars and now they are owners. Despite owning seizable portion of land my parents entered the government service and moved to cities. My grandparents passed away recently and they are likely to sell thier share of property which is now worth a few crores. The brahmins are the one's that are constantly in the move in search of greener pastures. Like the saying in tamil goes திரைகடல் ஓடியும் திரவியம் தேடு. They did exactly that during British Raj. Kings and Zamindars went extinct that made thier patronages nill.So they entered service sector on account of thier newfound poverty. But isn't that called progressive? If you call Brahmins traitors my parents are the same too and so are members of many other communities that are leaving behind thier ancestral villages and move to urban towns

A lot many of them haven't actually left thier old ways.Economic Development as a whole is a structural and complex phenomena And share of pie of SC/ST in the reservation pool is only single digit. And yet all eyes are on SC/ST reservation only. In my projection they'd take atleast 150 years to progress considering the fact we are a lower middle income country OBC,SC/ST form a sizeable portion of vote bank. I dont think they will lay hands upon the reservation as yet. Atleast not overnight
You visited one of the Sathurvedimangalam meaning that they were gifted to Bramins during Nawab/British period. These old man ancestors were soldiers of Marudupandiyars who were defeated and made slave workers in all Sathurvedi mangakalams. There were many villages in Avudaiyaarkoil and Aranthangi taluk to my knowledge.

In those days, some rich people had lot of farm lands, which was given for lease to village farmers, who brought up their family by doing agriculture in those lands gradually all farmers taken possession of the lands and became owners with the aid of politicians in exchange for votes. Nowadays the farmers deserted farming and sold the acquired free land for money and are now struggling for living, now they are asking govt for free compensation with out working.

I have seen, during 1959 - 1970, with my own eyes the great bondage of reciprocal love, care & concern between the Iyer families and the kudiyanavargal. I, didn't see any kind of discrimination between the two classes, despite untouchability practice. Not only Brahmins, but also kudiyanavargal who didn't have any objection for that practice, since true love, concern & care shown by Iyer families of Keelkudi towards their Kudiyanavargal, had an overwhelming effect. After, 1974, I didn't have any opportunity to visit this great village of love, trust, care, openness & concern which was in abundance.

Even my family owned lands and we also treated them respectfully. Tee owned atleast till 1990. We sold our lands but we maintained relationships with the workers closer to our family. One of the old worker who had some eye problem at his old age, we found him a doctor and took care of all his medical bills. Later years 1997 his age was almost to 100 , my marriage was fixed . My parents went to his house and gave new veshti, money for hom and have his son new veshti , shirt , money , his wife new saree and money and for his grand kids money do that gather can buy them dress of their choice . With a thammbulam plate , bananas and betel leaf and those dress and my marriage invitation , we incited him for my marriage. He couldn’t come but he sent his son (he also worked in our family lands ) and his family to my marriage.
I am also from the same Keelkudi Village. My father Shri Athmanatha Iyer was Perungkasavayal Karnam. I was born in 1954 in the House of Shri Subbaraya Iyer in the same Agraharam of Keelkudi, which was later owned by Inga Iyer ( Venkatrama Iyer)who was village karnam of Vattatur.
It's disheartening to see the supposed agraharam swiped out clean without Trace How Glorious it must have been in those days?.
I'm not a brahmin but I have a deep regard for the brahmin community.
My ancestral village is situated near an agraharam( now gone and is ocvupied by members of a different community).

They left sanskrit as dead language and learned English and moved to work in British capitsls like Trichy, Tanjore as cleks. You are right Kanmani. BTW I'm not supporting them. They will not even consider my support as valuable as I'm not a Brahmin.These are all grants of lands offered by kings and chieftains. I'm from an agrarian background myself. Despite owning seizable portion of land my parents entered the government service and moved to cities. My grandparents passed away recently and they are likely to sell thier share of property which is now worth a few crores.
The brahmins are the one's that are constantly in the move in search of greener pastures. Like the saying in tamil goes திரைகடல் ஓடியும் திரவியம் தேடு. They did exactly that during British Raj. Kings and Zamindars went extinct that made thier patronages nill.So they entered service sector on account of thier newfound poverty. But isn't that called progressive?
If you call Brahmins traitors my parents are the same too and so are members of many other communities that are leaving behind thier ancestral villages and move to urban towns

But agree, patronage to Bramins was over in those periods, and they were forced to tricky to lower communities and oppressed them. Only Tanjore Brahmin i suppose.I'm ofcourse NOT talking about the present Brahmin community but back in those the oppression of Brahmin community is well recorded,but so is my own community vellalar. And your notion regarding SC/ST is wrong. Only a very few of them are even aware about the reservations. A lot many of them haven't actually left thier old ways.Economic Development as a whole is a structural and complex phenomena And share of pie of SC/ST in the reservation pool is only single digit. And yet all eyes are on SC/ST reservation only.
In my projection they'd take atleast 150 years to progress considering the fact we are a lower middle income country
OBC,SC/ST form a sizeable portion of vote bank. I dont think they will lay hands upon the reservation as yet. Atleast not overnight
You visited one of the Sathurvedimangalam meaning that they were gifted to Bramins during Nawab/British period. These old man ancestors were soldiers of Marudupandiyars who were defeated and made slave workers in all Sathurvedi mangakalams. There were many villages in Avudaiyaarkoil and Aranthangi taluk to my knowledge.
