  • If you have been following my channel, you'll know that I've been trying hard to progress with Greenland Kayak Rolling. I felt that I've made a lot of progress with kayak rolling in the beginning however it has slowed down. I feel that trying hard isn't the only method of approach and have to focus more on the proper technique to help me along this Greenland kayak rolling journey.

    Well, the rolls that you're doing with no problems, and they look like you've been doing them for years, think back to when you couldn't even do that. These new ones will come eventually. Sometimes salt on the tongue helps with the sickness. Maybe put some in a zip lock bag and try it next time out for the heck of it. You're my hero Bro.......

    Hi and thanks, Fishaholicboy for sharing.
    I can see your struggle. You are anxious to be perfect and master the roll.
    Give yourself a little break as you did and reward yourself for what you accomplished so far. After all, we kayakers shall enjoy paddling.
    I saw the whitewater kayakers practice with nose-clip on and this technique will be mastered in a few months, I assume.
    You may consider learning how to be rescued by other sea-kayakers as well. The sea is always different, tide, current, winds..so many obstacles we will not expect..Many sea kayakers make a trip as a team in harsh weather. You will never be alone. I like watching you enjoy kayaking for sure. Well done.

    Really good to see you finished a perfect on-side Standard Greenland Roll on your PAKAYAK.
    Before the armpit roll, I would recommend to do the roll with your Albow Crook first, start moving your kayak first.
    As you can see the armpit roll you did on the video, the paddle start moving before the leg initiated. You have to really open your body under the water while your leg drive and that is something similar to the butterfly roll.

    One thing. Doing practice when you set up before you go over is far more easy when you capsize by mistake.
    So put your paddle down on the wrong side, capsize, pick up paddle, then roll.

    • @88kayak
      @88kayak Před rokem +1

      One way to learn this is to put paddle on paddle leash, capsize without holding on to the paddle, and when underneath the water, grab the paddle to do the roll. But the fact the he could always fall back on the standard greenland roll means he shouldn't have a problem with this.

    Your rolls are looking really good. I got motion sick while practicing rolls a couple weeks ago. It was particularly bad while I was laying back with my head in the water. I took a break and took it easy the rest of the day. I suspected it was water in my ear, so the next day I used ear plugs while practicing.

    • @cre8iveworks
      @cre8iveworks Před rokem

      @@Fishaholicboy Rolling has been really fun! I think I’ve got the layback roll pretty locked in with both Greenland and euro paddles. I’m working on being consistent with the Sweep, Sweep to C and the C to C for whitewater. The paddlers here have been so kind to loan boats to roll while I wait for the NDK to arrive (won’t arrive until spring of next year), so I’ve had a lot of fun trying out various boats to practice rolling. I really love the idea of the Trak (it’s still in the shopping cart, lol), but I really wanted something immediate to have to use now. The price and the long wait for a next Spring arrival for another boat is the concern. If I find the yellow and teal version of the Trak 2.0 that was available now, I’d grab it immediately. Fingers crossed!

  • @88kayak
    @88kayak Před rokem +1

    I have been looking forward to your rolling videos. You have great forward finishing posture with the float. My left side is weak too. But I think it useful to have a confident roll each on one side. BTW, the armpit roll is more commonly known as shotgun roll, I think.

    • @Fishaholicboy
      @Fishaholicboy  Před rokem +1

      Thanks! I really enjoy watching your rolling videos too! Agree that we should be able to roll sides.. it just feels so awkward. With my forwarding finishing roll with the float, I think my main problem is still not enough leg drive. That’s something I need to really focus on

    Nothing wrong with your offside roll except you did not finish the sweep and came up too early. Also you sat upright rather than lie on the back deck and only then sit up. The sickness can be as a result of cold water in your ear and against your eardrum. Some people use earplugs to prevent this.
