that "harddrive" thingy is actually a Japanese exclusive ps branded NAS (network area storage)called Nasne, so it stores 1tb of whatever video or audio files you want and stream them to your ps3 or sony vaio pc, unique hardware we didn't get
Actually Adam, as someone who owns them all, there are 9 Sailor Moon Super Famicom games:
-Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon (Beat Em Up)
-Bishoujo Senshi R Sailor Moon (Beat Em Up)
-Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S: Jougai Rantou!? Shuyaku Soudatsusen (2D Fighter)
-Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S: Kondo wa Puzzle de Oshioki yo! (Puzzle)
-Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S: Kurukkurin (Puzzle)
-Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon: Another Story (JRPG)
-Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Super S: Fuwa Fuwa Panic (Puzzle)
-Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Super S: Zenin Sanka!! Shuyaku Soudatsusen (2D Fighter)
-Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon: Sailor Stars Fuwa Fuwa Panic 2 (Puzzle game for the SuFami Turbo)
Theres a final fantasy edition gamecube complete on ebay for approx £3000.00. Thats mental, holy grail system right there. Nice find.
Right?!?
The best thing I ever found in a book-off was in Yokohama, and it was a boxed FFVI for SNES for like 12 bucks.
Hint: Don't go to Tokyo/Osaka for games. Nagoya is a little bad too. Why? gaijin run sleazy import-export businesses for video games so they sift through all the high traffic areas often, that coupled with tourists makes the retro gaming scene almost as bad as the Japanese car auction scene.
If you are out in the boonies keep an eye out for a hard-off store, like book-off but Costco size and have way better selection and deals.
Lastly, Kyoto, Fukuoka, & Sapporo are best, not just for games either ;) But I can imagine if you went to Kochi you would hit a gold mine, absolutely no foreigners go there, and the prefecture was ravaged by the post 90's bust meaning lots of second-hand games to be had.
But most of all, don't go to Japan for games alone, don't go to Japan if you are not flying out of America or you will get murdered with excess luggage charges, and last but not least, be respectful when in Japan, you get a pass on most things for being a gaijin but that doesn't excuse some of the behaviour you see. And lastly, Japan is not some mystic land completely different from the rest of the world, it's just another country with people trying to live their lives. Just thought I would say this before you to head off to Japan spurred on by youtube videos such as these with a naive twinkle in your eye soon to be tarnished.
Conor O'neill There's no reason not to go to Akihabara and Nihonbashi in Tokyo and Osaka to look for games. Grabbing 1$ sports and mahjong games from the bargain bin because they're region exclusive is not everyone's cup of tea. For me it would be an utter waste of luggage and shelf space to hoard crappy games I'd never play, even if the games themselves are dirt cheap. Some collectors actually care about the games they buy, and would rather pay more for quality games that mean something to them in lesser quantities. Both Tokyo and Osaka offer more of that than other cities, and some Osaka stores especially can be very reasonable. It depends very much on the stores anywhere you go, though, as pricing can be all over the place.
I guarantee you also that there are a number of rarer games, especially for less common systems like the PC Engine, Sega Mark-III, Neo Geo AES, Mega CD, PC-FX or MSX2, that you'd have to go to the most well-stocked Super Potatos in Tokyo and Osaka to even find if you're sticking to brick and mortar stores. Otherwise you'd have to look for it online Yahoo auctions. Super potato prices can be stiff, but for rarer stuff they're usually on par with or somewhat cheaper than Japanese amazon and quite a bit cheaper than ebay, so in those cases you might as well pick up stuff there. Zig-zagging across the whole country from Fukuoka through Kouchi and all the way up to Sapporo just to chase down some good deals on commonly sold games isn't exactly an inexpensive endeavor either, and is at any rate somewhat pointless with online shopping so readily available. It seems you'd have to be more into the chase than the catch in that case.
Also, a boxed FFVI for 12 bucks is nothing special unless you bought it recently. I picked up a bunch of boxed Super Famicom games for 3-7 $ before the financial crisis of 2008 made the yen skyrocket, including many of the must-have jrpgs. Book-Off, GEO and the occasional trip to Akihabara and Nihonbashi did the trick.
The Hard drive thing I believe is like a DVR type thing that can also work on PS3 and PS4. I may be wrong but I remember reading about it a while back.
It is a DVR, works with nearly all sony's product, Xperias, PSVita, PS3, PS4 etc
FYI Trump or トランプ is the Japanese word for standard 52 deck playing cards. Also Shougi or 将棋 is Japanese chess not a puzzle game.
amazing video, makes me want to visit Japan even more. Fantastic collection you have there, another great set of pickups also
Foreigners will always see Japan as a collector's paradise because the Japanese attitude about clutter. Traditionally, it's baaad to have collections of game systems, wires and crap. It means you horde and are dirty. That's a total thing. Some guys have huge collections, but they would be seen as delinquents or hikokimori. So, a person will sell their entire PS2 collection to Book Off and buy a classic Famicom collection. When that gets boring, they'll sell that and get something else. So there will always be cheap retro games and such in Japan.
dude, i used to live in Japan and i miss the book off stores so much!! glad to see you went!
PS - "trump" is what they call poker over there
Congrats on the Haul Adam. And thanks for the shout out.
Now i gotta get the rest of the WiiU collection before it gets out of hand.
Thanks!
That Skylanders Wii U edition I didn't know was rare, about a year ago I was getting the entire set for Wii U and realized the first one was released only in Japan. Found it really cheap on Ebay so hats off for that!
Nice pick ups man sorry for seeing the video so late for some reason I had missed it.
I played Wonder Project J2 and man I love it I was a bit of a pirate and played a fan translated version but man what a fun game.
There are actually 5 Sailor Moon games for the Super Famicom.
two beat em ups,a fighting game,a puzzle game and an RPG.
The first one which is one of the beat em ups also came out on the Mega Drive but for how much it costs you could buy a Super Famicom plus the SF version of it and still save 20$.
Nice pickup on Rabbit! I'm hyped to pick that one up one day too.
Damnit.. already want to go back to japan, best holiday i ever been on by far
Have loved all of the Japanese videos, nice work Adam.
As much as Super Potato and other shops in Akihabara focused on games, I found tons of super deals at Book Offs as well. Can't wait to go back and hit em all up.
Adam, this is a cool video. It would cool for you to do a video on how someone could visit Japan and locate some of the best Book Offs and Hard Offs to find some of the hidden gems that Japan has to offer! Keep the content coming!!
Thanks! Something like that might be happening. ;)
You weren't overhyping, this truly was the mother of all pickups videos. It's a shame the rest of the world didn't get Super Back to the Future II, it's leagues ahead of any other BttF licensed game until the Telltale one (though I didn't get too far in it since I'm pretty bad at classic video games).
I'm going to Japan around January. Would love those type of videos!
I bought a white DSI, used, at a Tokyo's Book Off...It was pristine. Not a single scratch, nothing. Complete. There's an vast, diametrically opposite difference between used goods here in Europe and in Japan. Even new stuff.
I also saw AES Neo Geo games in this store...only in Japan.
I love your videos Adam!
forgot to say, 19 bucks (euros)
If I remember correctly, Panel De Pon, the third game on the puzzle collection, is known as Tetris Attack, here in the US.
Excellent video, well done for your Japanese tour
26:38 I heard "Fiddle Fury 3". "Fiddle Fury 3! The Road to Branson!"
Damn it Adam, I saw the gamecube in the video and I'm going to japan on september and I was so hyped, then I see the end of the video and you buy it arghh, any way pretty good pick ups men
Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but the Nanase is a digital TV and satellite recorder for the PS3 and PS4. Unfortunately, it only works in Japan. There is a predecessor that only worked on the PS3 and only recorded digital TV and no built in hdd, I believe it is called Torne. I actually own one of those.
Really appreciate the time you took looking for the names of the games and stuff. Also I definitely would love to see that Q and A if you decide to do it. The pick ups that stood out to me is the game you called "Great Adventure 4" which is called The Great Battle IV, Super Robot Wars GC, the first Kenka Bancho game and those pro wrestling games.
No problem!
So jealous of that gamecube! congrats on the find.
Thanks.
Please do the Q&A thing! I'd love to go to Japan one day, the language barrier is what scares me the most
With those Super Famicom games you are sitting on a gold mine of awesome! I really hope you actually played them so would realize what you have. Not just games sought after for the franchises attached to them, but actually great gems.
I love book off! I can't wait to go back to Japan 🇯🇵
In Southern California, there are three or four Book Off stores. They're not bad to browse every now and then, but over the years, they've priced their video games even higher than eBay prices, though. I could imagine they're not as nice as Japan.
SG-1000 and PC-FX videos when?
*We are waiting, Adam...*
Japanese Gamcube cases are so cute- but I'm not suprised that they were changed over here!
And now I know Shigesato Itoi (creator of the Mother/Earthbound series) has made some fishing games too. Apart from that, excellent pick-ups!
Lot of great finds! Love Book Off, though I only got a few games last time I was in one in Japan (plenty of other non game items in the stores as well). i've only been to two outside of Japan, both in Honolulu, but i preferred the one with Japanese items (got some neat non game related items there)
Thanks for sharing your trip to Osaka with us!
18:03 It's not "same game", it's sa-me ga-me, as in "shark" and "turtle" respectively
The only guy on CZcams to spend hundreds of dollars on sports games.
Great thing about sports games, they never amass to be "hundreds of dollars."
Adam Koralik haha I suppose. But you know what I mean. No hate sir, I love your channel and your videos. But come on man, there tends be a lot of FIFA soccer 2001 for the OG Xbox. This is a collector channel so it makes sense lol
That comment came of like I was being a dick.
Love your channel and love your videos. Keep on keeping on my friend.
Don't judge me too much for having these on again in the background for the tenth time.
this is my favorite video on youtube I love your pick ups videos :)
+Manic Mania Thanks!
That Japan tips live stream would be killer cuz I'm going there next summer and it would be nice to have some insight
You should get The Conveni 200X is a convenience store simulation game designed for the Xbox 360 system in 2006.
Great video! You definitely went all out for this last one. As a fellow Wii U collector... damn on that Skylanders set. I haven't dabbled into the imports yet.
Good luck man.
Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventure is really really good! great music and super cute anime style. I had the UK PAL version when I was younger but still love it even now! Really recommend it!
I go to book off in NYC, and its amazing lol movies, games, music , you name it
I was there, I used a shot of me in front of it in this video.
been to the book off in San Diego. it has lots of American and Japanese games for just about every major system
Nasne is for the tv I think. It records programs like a TiVo box. They used to have a similar thing for PS3 too called Torne in Japan.
"...Put the controller in the basket!!!" Buuhahaahaaaa!!! U funny, Adam!!! Great (As Always), video dude!!! :O)))
Thanks dude!
I'm almost positive the WWE/WCW games were the reskins as opposed to the other way round.
Some great pickups here!
Awesome pickups Adam!
A cleaning and restoring video of a Famicom? Sign me up for it!
what a nice looking gamecube, great find ;)
+WillowAlchemist Thanks.
Damn man, that's awesome. Lovin' the weird Seaman controllers. I've been collecting for Saturn again and really wanted Rabbit lol. That, Groove on Fight, Crows, Asuka 120, Hot Blooded Family etc. The damn games are so much here but I'm sure they are a fraction of the price there =)
Great video and I'm super jealous of all that GameCube stuff.
Nice picks, Adam.
I live in Nagoya and, indeed both Book Off and Hard Off are awesome stores! I go to some of them almost every week.
I noticed some misspellings in the titles of your games such as "Itoi Shigesato no Bass Tsuri No. 1 Kettei Han" in which the "Han" should be spelled "Ban", "Doraemon 3: Nobi Dai no Machi S.O.S." that should be spelled as "Nobita" as it is the name of the character and "Doraemon: Nobita to three tsu no Seireiseki" in which "three tsu" should actually be read as "Mitsu", otherwise the meaning may change.
This may have happened because some kanji can have distinct readings depending on what other kanji come before or after it and Google often mistakes them.
I don't mean to be picky, but as a collector myself, I like having the correct titles of the games I own for cataloguing purposes so, if you wish, just tell me and I can go through your picks and give you the correct spellings for them.
Once again, thanks for the video! And keep up with the great content!
Would love to hear your Japan trip overall story and a faq. Sure, there are tons of such videos/articles on the net. Yet it's always nice and even somewhat more reliable to learn this stuff from someone you... kinda know?
I love going to Book Off in New York. Their game section may be small, but I've found some great things there.
I wasn't impressed, but I was spoiled by Japan.
I'm sure you were! At least New York does have two other great game stores.
I am happy to say that I live close to one of the few book offs in the us! Bit none of the prices are as good as the Japanese locations.
I love this series man, need to take a look at GC imports, looks like a lot of fun stuff..
I'd LOVE a full showcase of your wii u collection!
Book Offs and Hard Offs are the best! Nasune is for the tv I think. It records programs like a TiVo box. They used to have a similar thing for PS3 too called Torne in Japan. GC mega rare I have never seen that colour in Japan when living there.
I went to Kyoto Book-Off forever ago and nearly shit myself when I saw Cosmic Smash for DC for $20.
a year on... still waiting for the white gamecube rare variants video...
I want all ur GameCube stuff from Japan amazing video Adam 👍👍
We have a few BookOff stores here in SoCal. Only one of them is completely Japanese though like you saw in Japan.
in Virtual pro 2, you can unlock additional movesets from wwf/wcw wrestlers
That Skylanders game... There's one on Yahoo Auctions Japan right now if anyone wants it.
I think people are still under the mind set you don't like the PS2, due to the way your earlier videos came off as to the PS2. Just a theory.
"Famisto 64 by Namco"
I still remember the day when I read the news about that upcoming games. Most N64 owners hoped that we could eventually see a Tekken 64 and other Namco made games. Unfortunately, we only saw Ridge Racer 64, during the end of the system and wasn't really that interesting.
Parodius games are very hard and strange, but really fun. If you get a chance, pick up any of them (Think there are 2 or 3 on the Super Famicom) Great shmups.
cool video adam
The Book Off in San Diego actually had a good selection of imports. Gotten some good games for a really good price. Domestic stuff the pricing is a hit and miss.
"recently" like in 10 Videos now .... :)
Oh man, as a GameCube collector I badly want that console, but yeah it's a shame it has such a price tag. Amazing find for sure
Man, I bought my Famicom years ago back when they were considered sought after. Paid over £130 unboxed
That is one hell of a pickup.....well done.
I have a black Japanese Xbox controller, the buttons are the same with texture. Jealous of that gray one.
Virtual Pro Wrestling 1 is WCW vs. NWO World Tour just with way more wrestlers. Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 has the All Japan Pro-Wrestling group but everybody else is from other promotions like New Japan, FMW, M-Pro etc etc and guys from MMA and Shoot Fighting promotions like UWF/UWFI, Rings, Pride etc etc but you have to edit there faces and gear to the right ones on those wrestlers.
Love the channel man keep it up!!!!
+Tyler Wranovics Thanks.
The Donkey Konga games all have regional differences in that they all have different songs (I'm pretty sure some songs are the same but the setlists are mostly different). It would be worthwhile to pick up the Japanese versions of Konga 1 and 2, or even the European versions, since they have different content compared to the American releases.
My favorite video so far. Thank you.
Thanks for watching.
Holy shit! That's a really good deal! Also, could you make a brighting video of the GameCube?
Yeah.
Adam do the live stream guide ASAP, I'm travelling to Osaka next week!!!!!
The Naruto "Clash of Ninja" games on Gamecube only 3 came to the states the 4th one was only released in Japan
Do a rare variants video on that gamecube. I would love to see that.
Virtual Pro 1 on ps1 is WCW vs The World on PS1, and Virtual Pro 64 is WCW/NWO World Tour.
that, sir, is one freakin sweet t-shirt. I need one!
I would love to see you stream that
Goiken Muyou: Anarchy in the Nippon is one of the better 3d fighters on Saturn. It's from the same people that made the Saturn version of Virtua Fighter 2.
Adam why Japan have Chinatown, but all alot of Chinese moved to Japan to worked or lived and also you can played Super Famicom games on your SNES by remove the side tap in the SNES with needle nose plier.
both Poppin Twin Bee games are sick 2 player games
cutie suzuki isn't actually an idol, she was a very famous japanese wrestler during the golden age of japanese wrestling! the cover for it looks great, too bad it's apparently not that good of a game.
Wow, now that's what I call a stack of games.
I'm saving a bit of money right now, because the next 2-3 months are crazy with new releases! I "hate" summer. I have a huge backlog, but all of these new games are stealing my time.
Thanks for watching!
Hey Adam, I believe that the one piece and naruto GameCube games are exclusives because the shows arrived in the west way later. Not sure about United States, but for instance, here in Portugal, Naruto only premiered in 2007. Awesome video btw.
Thanks.
i almost bought a japanese version of sonic adventure 2 battle at my local book off just because the jp cover used the dreamcast cover art and it wasnt obscured by the gamecube logo, my mom talked me out of it though because i dont have a japanese region gamecube and i could just print out the japanese boxart off the net and tape it to the sa2b case i already own
That first Naruto Gamecube Game is Naruto Clash of Ninja 3.
We gort Clash of Ninja 1 & 2 but the others we only got as Wii Ports.
As far as that Zatch Bell Game goes. if it's the 3D 1v1 fighter then we actually did get that one over here however the Japanese version has 1 exclusive Character.
13:47 LASTLEGION UX, it is like Virtual On. So pissed the game never got released in America!!! looks so awesome
Your Neo Geo CD library is the same as mine, though I do have the system.
Lol it hurts my heart that he had no idea about any of the anime. How do you not know Lupin III?! Either way, my brother's girlfriend is from Japan, and I'm totally gonna have her bring me back some GameCube, Wonderswan, and N64 games from Book Off. Never heard of it before this video.
You got some good deals but I can't say that I would actually want any of this stuff.
I also got my av famicom there boxed in a weird flea market on the outskirts of kyoto for 1000 yen :D Love to be able to post my hoard from japan here, sadly only had 1 suitcase so wasnt quite as much as you haha
ps wow the gamecube and sorry for spam
