    Can't beat a blown engine with straight pipes.

    Dave's got two Allison engines on his tractor and that's why he calls it Double Vision.

    Only two full pulls? My god, tractor pulling has really fallen off.

    8:58 Can someone please explain if a whole separate engine - vs just a straight 8 Cylinder is more competitive reason to double up? someone might be able to tell me some pros and cons these more wild multi engines vs just one perfectly tuned Turbo Charged engine in this pulling race. Great Vid btw.

    This is the first time I've noticed the audience taking their fingers out of their ears after a supercharged run. Turbine no, Allison no; blown V8's must make a special noise that causes pain.

      They do. I witnessed an indoor tractor pull in Ft. Worth sometime in the mid '80s and the sound was devastating. It would rattle right through a person's body like an internal earth quake, v8s were the worst. Holding your ears was a must, even the farm tractors were deafening.

    So if the test puller stops before 75 or 100 feet whatever it is and backs up and pulls again does he still have the option of turning that pull down and coming back again?

    • @EEPPULLINGVIDEOS
      @EEPPULLINGVIDEOS  Před 4 lety

      That is correct. Every puller in the class has 2 attempts IF they make an honest attempt to shut down by the 100' mark. Only the 1st puller of the class or 1st puller after a sled reset has the option to drop and come right back, drop 6 spots or come back last hook in the class.

    Has anyone ever thought of how fast these tractors would go without the sled behind it?

    • @frankbuck99
      @frankbuck99 Před 4 lety +1

      Noel Paquin wheel speed is around 150 miles per hour.

      I was actually really curious about this question. I couldn't find any scientific data on the drag coefficient of any kind of farm tractor, so I used the coefficient of a semi with trailer and added .4 to it (pretty rough estimate but on the upper end of an estimate, this is a very high drag coefficient). I used a rough area of 6M^2 for the frontal area of the tractor, and calculated that the tractor would need ~9700 hp to overcome 250mph. This doesn't include any kind of gearing to get it to that speed, but it's very reasonable to imagine one getting to 200mph +

      Ever thought how fast a parachutist would be without the parachute? Jeez
      The gearing is too low for speed

      I actually get a lot of good feedback for having it so folks know who is leading. May redesign it in the near future to be less intrusive. Working with a new program and computer so it was something to use fast to get the videos going

    • @andyharman3022

      Some kind of a 2-row radial. I lost count of the exhaust pipes. Whether a 14 or an 18, I don't know.

      Yes they do, but until they build electric motors that are larger that a 55 gallon drum, using the best rare earth magnets and creating giant batteries with 3 phase inverters, you are not going to see an electric tractor with this much torque - (i have seen electric motors that big in factories running monster injection molding presses and 5 ton grinding wheels - i spent 15 years in robotics and automation - i suppose we could run them on giant coiled extension chords - grin )
