    Long drive but it's cool you see value in the parts.

    Nice find! Even though most of it is rusted out scrap, I’m glad you found parts for the Diamond T build possibly.

  • @coreyellisart6877

    Don't mean to inundate you with questions I have one other I have been spending hours and hours on the net trying to research my 453 Detroit has a SEA number 4 bellhousing. It seems like nothing out there has a number 3 bellhousing everything is 2 or 3.
    Also my flywheel is sunk in about 3 inches. I was going to make a plate with the number 4 pattern step up to a #2 or 3
    And then make a 6 hole aluminum spacer about 3 inches long pull the existing flywheel bolts out put longer bolts through the spacer into the existing flywheel and mount a second flywheel outside of the engine for my transmission I only like to run manuals. I have a NV3500 I was going to use.
    I'm wondering if the 4:53 came in different bellhousing sizes. I've heard some people use the gamma goat Transmissions

      @detroitgarage9430  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes, the 53 series came with #2, 3, and 4. Those two engines I just picked up both had #3 housings and flywheels. The second flywheel is dished about 3'" as well. I'm planning on using those to make a ZF6 flywheel. I did a similar thin on my 4-53T to adapt the 5R110. #2 housing adapted to the 5R110 and a 2.5" crank spacer. Running the Detroit flex plate, 2.5" spacer bolter to the 5R110 flex plate. Works really well, so you should be able to do the same. Here's the video of the 5R110 adapters to give you an idea of what i did.:)czcams.com/video/7I_6tH4UOrY/video.html

      @@detroitgarage9430 wow I was thinking of doing the same thing only a single piece and re drilling my auxiliary flywheel to match the same holes on the Detroit flywheel and just use long bolts all this research I've been doing and you were able to answer my question in 5 minutes thank you so much I really do appreciate it I wish we were closer. Like I said a few months ago I don't envy you in that whether I love my Arizona weather I have a Bridgeport Mill and a enco 39 inch lathe should be able to turn something out of some Billet thanks again and keep cranking those videos

    Nice ride along.You got a good score on those parts.If the head is not cracked it is repairable.What is the deal with 3-53 with aluminum block.How common are they?I remember when I went for Series 60 DDEC 3 training at Cullen's in Surrey they had a 4-71 aluminum block in the classroom.Hard to find them.

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes the 3-53, 6V53, 4-71 came with aluminum blocks and some say aluminum heads as well, but never seen aluminum heads. They were used in the military, the 3-53 was common in the Gamma Goat and the 6V53/471 in mine sweepers and other duties. Getting very hard to find now.

    Quick question for you non-related to your video you've been quite the wealth of knowledge the last few years and I appreciate it I've been hunting for a 671 and after about 2 years I found one it's reverse rotation I've built a handful of gas engines and Cummins engines so I know my way around engines for the most part I heard it's as simple as swapping the cam gear the cam and flipping the head is this correct thank you

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 4 měsíci

      Basically yes, not certain about the 6-71, but on the 53 series the oil pump as well. Has to be turned around, 6-71 might be the same. If you have a shop manual it should be mentioned there as well.:)

      @@coreyellisart6877 It hauls really well, I have it turned up to 240HP, so it does well. Eventually I'm looking at 280HP, but that won't happen for a couple of years. Have to wait to finish my new Silver 4-53T and dyno test the new injectors. Looking for 280HP smoke free.:) I'm smoke free now, so with the right turbo I should be able to stay smoke free at 280.:)

      I never check as running veg oil, but this trip I checked and I burned approximately 44 gallons of veg oil in 600 miles.:) That's around 13.6 mpg@70-80mph. The 4-53T starts to consume fuel after 70 mph.:) I used to get 18-20 mpg on diesel empty, 11-13 towing. Veg oil is 10% less energy than diesel, so this would be around 15 mpg on diesel.:)

      Have twin 453 in a 1979 ocean yacht trawler I’m restoring, engines appear to have been operating and well maintained until owner became elderly and family left boat inoperative for about 10 yrs. Upon inspection they all turn over manually but need to go through them before attempting to fire them up.
