Come on people!! Give this man some love. 1.x K views and only 220 likes? Pro tip: hit the like button when beginning the video. 10 year lookback. You have been very consistently good in your electronic abilities and production values.
I agree. I enjoyed this look back at the same tv,past and present. It doesn’t seem that it was the long ago.
There’s an article called “aura of the era” about vintage televisions that features an interview with Shango as well as other big players in the vintage tv restoration hobby. He’s been doing this a long time and I too really appreciate all the videos, such as the one with Al talking about tubes as well as the trips to some of the last radio and tv service shops. I’m glad these places and people were documented for posterity. I also enjoyed videos where he would save other vintage items, like the lawn equipment, etc. since I collect all sorts of things from the 50’s and 60’s.
There’s nothing but garbage on television these days. It’s nice to know there’s always something interesting and educational to watch because of guys him.
Walt I look forward to the new ones each weekend and give all his videos a like. You are right.Others that watch should too.
I have never even looked
Most are to damn lazy to click the thumbs up. Says a lot about people in general these days.
@@shango066 Cool. I compared the views/ likes ratio of your channel vs others I also watch, and yours are high. I would have thought likes affects monetization, but if you don't feel compelled to monitor likes, I guess not. I'll stop working so hard... 😋
Hey, that looks like the TV I watched Saturday morning cartoons on as a kid. From Wacky Races to wacky electronics in 50 years.
I still have the tv I grew up with in the 70s. It was my grandmother's 1968 Telefunken, which happened to be the first color tv in our neighborhood (I live in Germany, where color tv took off in the late 60s). When there were important soccer games, random strangers from the block asked my granny whether they could watch the game on her color set... And my grandfather just answered from the background "bring beer!"
Those were the days...

My gosh! My grandmother had one of these in her bedroom for years! It even had roll around stand that came with it. I swear it just like one she had!
The only thing keeping that set playing as well as it has for as long as it has was the cross glued to the front. Likely anointed by a priest or a reverend.
I love the pure glee when there’s arcing and fire haha. We’re all just children trying to act like adults, aren’t we? :)
Considering today’s programming on tv, I’d rather watch the high voltage arc! Good show with country-full-flavor incrusted cigarette flavored set mmmmmmm, full flavor 👍🏻
More patches on this old TV's crispy circuit board than a worn out sweater! Yet Shango gets it working so you would
watch it. That cross on it originally meant it was " powered by Jesus" ! Now it's repowered by Shango.
@shango066 I don’t usually comment but I just want to say thank you, been watching your videos for a while and it’s gotten me into vintage electronics. In fact I bought my first radio 3 days ago a 1948 Emerson model 514.
See how the TV arked after Shango removed the cross .the TV needs an exorcist now.
Post Classic check it out just takes place with Cargo in her

Hi Shango,Hope you and yours have a happy holiday weekend. It’s hard to believe this was a decade ago! Where does the time go? The camera and video quality have sure come a long way during that time. I think it’s great that you’re still doing these repairs and helping to preserve these vintage televisions and electronic items. It’s nice that this set is actually in use and being watched and enjoyed as it was when it was new. The owner must move this tv around a lot because it has broken pieces of plastic here and there that it didn’t have in the first video! Hopefully it will still be playing another decade from now! Keep up to good work!
Use to a set wasn't considered a good TV unless it lasted 20 years and a failure if it died within five....nowadays if you get five you've lucked out. For a 56-57 year old set whose life expectation was 5- 7 years (from the factory) I'd say its done pretty good.
Now to the cleaning: It's a shame they've all but outlawed R-500 as a cleaning agent (the same thing NASA used to wash down the shuttles with) .... we used it at T I and works wonders. Concerning that board: I know this set IS NOT WORTH THE EFFORT but... couldn't one 'photo copy' that board and etch a new one? Just something to consider in future restores & projects...
Wow, didn't realize that Shango once came in radiotvphononut flavor.
Wow that low res lo fi potato vision second part was actually entertaining!
This set reminds me of the one I used to watch Bob Wilkins and Creature Features on, late at night in the late 60s. KCRA in Sacramento was one of the few channels we could even get. I don't think I ever owned a color set until the late 70s. BW sets this size were easy to come by in the 60s as lots of folks switched to LIVING color. If it broke, and you couldn't fix it by taking all the tubes down to the tube tester at the grocery store, then you could find another one cheaper than having it fixed.
32:35 your voice suddenly sounds like it's coming through that faulty TV speaker... 😆 Nice video. I'm glad someone is enjoying their vintage electronics. Enjoy your holiday weekend.
Boxy Dan, Love you from Sudan 🇸🇩
at 5:57, that socket's solder joints look really bad with rings around them. I imagine they be going out soon if its used regularly. Still fun seeing a old video followup in a way.
Thanks for fun of watching your brilliance in repairs and information on old sets. always a great joy watching your channel
Thanks for the video! Have a great holiday weekend Shango.
Great repair video and a blast from the past! Thanks for all the great jokes and the irreverence, always good for a laugh! Have a safe and fun weekend.
Great technical information and the entertainment value is superb!
I'm so glad you have better camera and audio recording amazing how far its gotten as quality goes
That Play-Doh commercial was fantastically creepy.
Amazing that it is still in use.
Oh, the "Cristian TV set"! I remember watching the original video a long time ago, and revisiting it maybe last month or so. It's great to see how these TVs can work well after ten years. Great work as always, Shango. All the best!
Man am I glad I quit smoking.
Think of all of the money you've saved and will continue to save. God Bless
Wow! What 10 Years Make! The Best No Production Value Videos On CZcams! Keep them coming excellent technical content!
1966 TV? Wonderful job! The moon landing was watched on this TV!
Nice repair as always
Sixty years old television and running strong. Will Musk automobiles last ten years?
Sadly, the veritable "they don't make them like this anymore" is more and more harder to say on an ironic sense.
@@periclescosta2068 My Toyota Corolla made in Japan last for more than 20 years and the paint was new until some kids crashed it. My Japanese set Sanyo lasted over than 36 years with no repair needed until I trashed it in 2018. Mt Zenith Shortwave radio needs service, this set made in USA and very expensive in 1960!
Another great diag and repair! Those traces seem to be fusible links whenever there's a power surge. Probably be chasing those for the life of the CRT.
Hi Shango0. The ad's are has crazy as big brother these days. Been watching just haven't commented on your videos last week. Crazy times, crazy times. I remember that set back when I was a boy. All my best.
I have a 1965 Neckermann portable Trasistorised TV (Art. Nr. 837/05), that initially couldn't lock sync either horizontally or vertically and it took me a while to find out that it was because of an open 1uF FOX electrolytic cap, causing the Sync seperator transistor to not get sync at all.
Said TV was a German rebrand of a Japan made TV by YAOU/General and it was rebranded in the US as the Philco N1052 and Q1054 (the former lacking UHF, while the latter has it like the Neckermann).
Very Cool Set!
What a way to kick off memorial day weekend. Thanks Shango for the video and going down memory lane. I can tell that's from 10 years ago.... No virus propanda or Biden craziness on the TV. Oh and also no gloves. Whatever happened to your friend Chris. Thanks again Shango have a great weekend
I suspect this TV set played *A LOT* of "Marlboro Man" commercials back in the day. It survived all that cigarette smoke and tar and it's almost as old as I am!
Great video. I think I watched the 10 years ago one before, but not sure.
Very cool TV!
I saved a Panasonic AG-520c Monitor/recorder. From early 80s, tubes still clear, matched the model number to find the remote on eBay.
Finger the tube 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Fondle tank tv.
Like the "man in the boat".
I've smoked too much dope but I think your voice 10 years ago sounds like a member of the artists of Negativeland called 'The Weatherman'.
Dobra robota
I hate working on those old Sylvania sets. In addition to crappy PC boards, the tube sockets they used were made out of some kind of soft plastic that turned in to crumbs from vacuum tube heat. Left would be only the tube pins standing up in the PC board without any material between them. Terrible sets.
Is it useful to place a mirror in front of a tv when adjusting it?
Great little tv
Oooh! we have arcage!😃
Dang, that PCB is “baked” …
Surprised me to see such skinny conductors in the FB/HV circuits.
I remember this video what a difference in cameras
This looks 👀 a little Chinese-Y, with all the plastic, but it also looks very retro. Never 👎 knew they made plastic TV’s 📺 for 1965. This is almost 😅 like 👍 a Walmart TV 📺, in a way, but much better. I’m sort of surprised that this TV 📺 is solid state, but 1965 is about when the transition from tube type to solid state started ⭐️. Your friend, Jeff.
Nicotine arc art is something someone could try. Coatings of vape nicotine, or maybe go all the way for the 'cigarette wood gas/oil generator' effect for dangerous high voltage art.
Always wondered why this test pattern from generator is not symmetric? Why is the lower part touching the horizontal line and the upper part not? This is intentional or is this a generator issue?
That broken pad and trace is about to short on the adjacent one after you repaired it with that link.
It's so Cool
PCB and tubes normally does not match.
Cigarette encrusted TV boards are made better yet when you add a cat's worth of white hair into the mix. That was the worst thing I ever worked on.
My Grandfather retired as a Sylvania engineer, and eventually Verizon was the company paying his pension. So you should call Verizon tech support for issues?
Hyundai Palisade
8:50 You left the broken part of the trace on the resistor pin. It seems it is close to touch the next trace. No fear for shorting the resistor?
Valid question. Might look worse on camera than in person tho
1965 SYLVANIA B&W TV FOR SCREENPLAY
1:50 What you said, 😂🤣😂 Sorry. 😁
Y I K E S ! YOU ARE DOGGEDLY DETERMINED
📺👍
I wonder why some folks use a B&W TV.
That's a lot of text messages are they all about TVs?
An eBay seller with the nickname radiotvmanuals is currently selling documentation called: "1965 SYLVANIA 583-1 3 4 5 TELEVISION SERVICE MANUAL PHOTOFACT SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM" Date 4-65 Set 750 Folder 4. I wonder if it's the same TV model.
I like to watch at 2x speed
I can remember when Obama shut off analog forever. I was paying 15 dollars a month on direcTV to receive my locals. I was watching 9&10 news on the morning they pressed "the button" and my screen went black. It stayed like that for months while they cared less to keep charging me 15 dollars a month to have blank nothing. I had spent months helping friends that had antenna's to get the free gubment free digital boxes and fix their wiring to be able to decode DTV had no issues when they were standing in the transmission room at the studio with a reporter didn't know a thing about what was going on when the engineer walked up to a huge panel talking about this is the analog system and the director of the show counted down to zero when he pressed a button. Everyone I know that wasn't paying a dime watched what happened next but to this day I couldn't even catch the weather report for the day along with every DirecTV customer including my boss had us building an electrical service during a rain storm.
The man. 1yes
The sync is in the tolite
Someone watched the moon landing on this.
less talkie and more fixie.... to solve problem..
Biden had been in Congress 139 years when this set was built
Yikes, that PCB looks terrible. They certainly had much better PCBs in the '60s but probably only in industrial stuff and test equipment like Tektronix.
Ditto GTE sets has shit for PCB's. And you can never get the tube sockets
to take solder. Fugly build, even a GE uses better boards !
LFOD !
Sort of like Philco, all style and no substance
it's almost a Joe Biden circle :)
