    I remember playing this game. It takes a lot of patience to finish this game especially when the difficulty is intense. Like for example the Thunderbird express which I memorized more than 20 times because of some speed precautions plus having hard time to brake due to the weather. So far I really like this game I hope they can produce this kind of game again it is very enjoyable! And I also learned some kanji characters very fast because of this game

    Awesome run! I am a huge fan of Densha de Go and I must say you are great at this! Professional is one of the most difficult games in the franchise but your video is indeed helpful! Thank you for making that video!
    * Just for fun, the markers with the raising at 3:34 actually means Up-gradient, i.e. if you don't accelerate you will lose speed... 3:57 with the straight marker means Level grade and markers with the declining marker at 10:43 means down-gradient, i.e. you will gain speed even if you are not accelerating ~

    Very interesting! How accurate are the game's routes to real ones?
    Edit: the more I watch, the more ridiculous this gets. It's insane how harshly you're punished for going as little as 1km/h over the limit, but I suppose it adds to the realism.

    • @OldGameBox

      Except for the fact that they modeled the locations based on how they looked back in 1998, it's almost 100% accurate. If you compare the gameplay to some recently recorded footage of the same route (czcams.com/video/0egtMM8VDos/video.html), you'll see everything looks pretty much the same.
      Well, except for the fact that a lot of the green areas have buildings now.

    Great showcase of the features. When playing, I'd like to keep a mental note on the train speed, converting km/h into meters per five or ten seconds. That way I can adjust the train speed accordingly.
    I've never played any other Densha de Go series beside Nagoya Railroad, but is there any changes in harder difficulties in Professional? In Nagoya Railroad, when you set the difficulty on very hard, the indicator above the speedometer is absent, and speed limits are shown late enough that you need to memorize them to avoid penalties.

    • @OldGameBox
      @OldGameBox  Před 4 lety +1

      I never noticed the speed limits, but on Professional, the difficulty affects mostly your starting time bank and penalties. The meters are all there but you can hide them yourself if you feel like it.
      It's a good game you should give it a try if you can. Thanks for stopping by!

    I love the Densha De Go franchise! The ps1 ones are my favourites aesthetically, including Kisha and Jet de Go. If only they weren't so strict.
    Do you know what does actually change when setting the difficulty as easy in pro? I've been fiddling with it, but everything seems the same as normal.

    • @OldGameBox
      @OldGameBox  Před 5 lety +2

      Nice! Always good to meet more people who like the series. Kisha de Go is an interesting one, isn't it? Not my favorite but boy, you can barely see anything in front of you. I haven't tried Jet de Go yet, how hard is it to play?
      As for the difficulty... As far as I could tell, the only changes are in the reward/punishment systems. So in places where you would lose 2 seconds you now lose 4. For every second you're late, instead of having your time bank go down second by second, it goes twice as fast. And on some of the games the changes also include the distance you're allowed to stop at. Instead of being able to stop within 2m of the stop, you're only allowed 1m or so.
      It depends on the game but it's mostly that kind of stuff. Thank you for stopping by!

    • @demodanza
      @demodanza Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks! I don't have problems with most tracks on normal, but I think I'm gonna turn it down to easy for a experience closer to Final.
      And yes, Kisha is an acquired taste, since the clear view is lacking in information The game ends up feeling boring visually since you must play in the default cluttered view. A shame, considering the scenery it's there.
      As for Jet de Go, it's pretty straightforward and also comes with guided tutorials for all the planes and modes. You have to take off, cruise and land correctly, while not exceeding speed and angle by much. Automatic mode is recommended, since you don't have to worry about raising and lowering flaps, it's densha de go in the sky, basically.
      Keep the good work!

    What are your top favorite Densha de Go games in the series, and which ones would you say are your least favorite?

    • @OldGameBox
      @OldGameBox  Před 6 lety +2

      Let's see... Hard to pick just one for the top, but my favorites are:
      Densha de Go Professional - For the variety of trains and locations, while keeping the good old bright colored aesthetics. This game has a huge replay value.
      Densha de Go Professional 2 - Same reason as above but they made the transition to "full" 3D. The colors are toned down but it still looks pretty nice.
      Densha de Go Ryojohen - The street car version of the game. Has a lot of replay value too and looks pretty good. There's that whole thing they love about the different seasons and it's colors, they did a great job on that. While easier than the other games when it comes to punishments, it's got different controls and feels like a different game. But in a good way.
      My least favorites are:
      Densha de Go Shinkansen hen - The bullet train version of the game. It's just boring. Bullet trains were made to cover huge distances in insane speeds and that's pretty much what you get. 10 minutes of tunnels and more tunnels with not much to do. And the game engine doesn't have a decent draw distance to make it so you can at least enjoy the views.
      Densha de Go Final - It's supposed to be the best DDG game but I'm not too big on it. It's by far the most bland looking one (in my opinion) and tries too much to have an arcade vibe to it. With combos and chains. Not my kind of game.
      How about you? Have you got any favorites?

    • @JasonMabone
      @JasonMabone Před 6 lety +1

      My all-time favorite, Densha de Go Ryojohen, is the one I return to the most. The settings, the trams, the different times of day, and the feeling that you're more in control of it all (being able to announce stops, open doors, and needing to obey signals to follow the correct route, etc.). The way you unlock routes, trams, and other extras was a delight earlier on, but then you have to try to earn 20000 per line to unlock everything. Once you've seen everything multiple times, playing normally for a ton of hours, after you're already unlocked all routes and trams, it just feels like grinding just to unlock that 20000 point prize... times 4. Again, that's 20000 points per line! ...but I'm still having fun. The way I play now is while listening to podcasts.
      Still, overall, Densha de Go Ryojohen is a terrific game -- my favorite, my baby, and I wish they'd make more games like it.
      Have you played Kisha de Go, the one with steam locomotives? That one would be my least favorite. I want to like it more that I do now, but honestly, I don't think I know what I'm doing at all in that game, and I'm going to need a lot of help learning the basics if I want to enjoy that game fully.
      I'd say that the older games (from around the original PlayStation era) would be my least favorite. They seem a bit harder, and I feel like I need to memorize how fast the train should go, since sometimes I'm not able to react to speed limits fast enough and slow down in time when going too fast (usually after an area where there's no speed limit).
      I guess I favor the later games I actually like Densha de Go Final and Professional 2. They seem a bit more polished than the older ones (though i do love them all), and they aren't as strict. But of the older ones (again, from around the original PlayStation era), Densha de Go Nagoya Railroad and Professional 1 would probably be my favorites. The one for Nintendo DS (Densha de Go! Tokubetsu-hen: Fukkatsu Shouwa no Yamanotesen) is fine, but I don't like that you're forced to use the touch screen to operate the trains. Densha De Go Shinkansen isn't bad, but I understand what you mean (I think the updated Wii version, Shinkansen EX, is a bit better). I really like the music, though, and I wish there were more songs to choose from while driving.
      I'm also hoping that the new Densha de Go arcade game finds its way outside of Japan on home consoles and PC... in English and other languages, though that will probably never happen. :(
      Still hoping...

      But if they made it so that all the Shinkansen lines are in the game. (Sanyo, Tohoku, Akita, Yamagata, Joetsu, Hokuriku and Tokaido Shinkansen lines), that would be good.
