  • Yes, macros matter. The right balance of protein, carbohydrates, and fat supports body function and performance. But calories matter more for weight loss. Registered Dietitian Whitney English breaks it down.
    DO MACROS MATTER?
Yes, but don't obsess with macro counting. If your intake falls within general recommended ranges, you should feel more satisfied with your meals, and get a better balance of important vitamins and minerals. Aim for this ratio:
    45-65% carbohydrates
    10-35% protein
    20-35% fat
WHAT ABOUT CALORIES IN VS. CALORIES OUT?
Trying to lose weight? Calories are the most important factor. If you burn more calories than you take in, you'll lose weight. However, if you get all your calories from high-fat, low-fiber foods, you'll feel a lot hungrier. This can make sticking to a certain calorie goal much more challenging. In the end, the best healthy eating approach combines quality foods and balanced meals.

It is nice not to have to get hung up on exact macros. Lots of sound advice, thanks.

OK that explains why before when I consumed about the same amount of calories I felt like crap! I was not counting macros only calories! I was on a food plan with food addicts anonymous and I lost a lot of weight but I felt terrible the whole time now I’m on the same food plan basically but counting macros which means I’m having to add more protein and more carbs so I’m gonna see if I still lose the same amount of weight and if I feel better.

"Do Macros matter of should I focus on Calories?" "The answer is Yes and No"
It wasn't a fucking yes or no question Whitney. I can't even watch the video now. I already lost too many braincells from that intro.

I hope you understand this 11 months after, but when it comes to losing/gaining weight, no. If it comes to living a healthy lifestyle and eating the right micronutrients, then yes.

The answer is focus on calories. It's pretty fucking tough to not get needed macros, especially considering that people are extremely healthy on carnivore and keto diets, and many people are extremely healthy on Mediterranean diets. I don't know why she just didn't simply answer. I think it's because she needed her opinion to be in there. Facts are shorter to honestly answer to and they don't lend to feelings of self importance as much.
