"You make Michael Reeves look well-adjusted" is quite the statement
This guy is probably by far the best guest I've seen on any podcast ever. Between the Uranium, cutting open batteries and blowing shit up as a child, making flash powder, etc. What an insane human being
You mean Nigel?
Man making handmade firecrackers and shotgunshells, the worst thing i did as a child was to put a firecracker on my slingshot, fail to set it on, get hit by the rubber on the finger and give up
Bro he make Michael Reeves looks like a normal person 🤣🤣🤣
He just became the mad scientist we all wanted to be as kids, man's living the dream
Could be the next Rick Sanchez
"So you made a gun"
"So you made a shotgun"
"That's a grenade"
This kind of guests makes me feel like a background character, they are awesome
I did the penny thing when I was a kid and for some reason thought the penny became radioactive. so I downloaded an app that was a fake Geiger counter and thought it was real. so I opened the app and the numbers on the counter went really high I thought I was going to die so I started panicking. I just threw the pennies off my balcony and washed my hands for an hour.
Lmao that is so wholesome!
Connor staring into the camera like "Am I hallucinating or did he just say that?" lol
"Where do you get zinc metal?"
Me: This actually doesn't seem like it will be hazardous
"So if you cut up batteries..."
Batteries he mentioned aren't *that* , dangerous, Li-ion batteries on the other hand...
@@slingshot99 I do remember that even the "safe" types of batteries have small amounts of mercury. At least some types of it. I can't remember which one.
@@techwizpc4484 Only zinc carbon batteries have solid zinc shells, other types don't. They are propably the safest to open, especially used ones
So, NileRed does chemistry like a cooking channel,
Got it
You should see his Shorts channel, it's reminiscent of How to Basic but for chemistry
cooking is just a form of chemistry innit
After watching this video, Nilered is now an honorary American
Phobias are irrational fears of things. I don't think it's irrational to be scared of gibbing yourself.
You can't keep dropping interesting videos man I'm busy
I'm not a chemist, but, as a kid, I also did a lot of the stuff that Nigel did. I opened batteries and experimented on them. I burned stuff. I mixed household chemicals. I made my own firecrackers using the head of matches. I'd also open old electonics and attempt to "fix" them or salvage stuff like capacitors and experiment on them. I'd try to collect hydrogen and oxygen gas by electrolysis. I also tried to grow an onion in a glass jar and everyday I would keep increasing the water level until the onion bulb was submerged. I wanted to grow a "water onion" (I don't know where I got the idea). It just ended up rotting.
I did a lot of random "science" stuff. But, I never thought that they were crazy stuff. I was just really interested and curious about stuff.
I made a couple firecrackers a few times out of bottle rockets. One of them I used aluminum foil for the body and I put in like eight match heads, you know for zest. And I lit it, tossed it into the yard and it didn't explode, it was just a fountain but you could see the match heads shooting out like sparks.
Dude made a gun at 12
Then made a shotgun, but turned it into a grenade
"You cut open batteries, and then you get the drain cleaner..."
Nile basically described his fascination with chemistry like I do with programming. Some people are super into the new emerging technologies that are coming out, and new programming paradigms, and then there's me who just cares what I can make with code and doing that efficiently.
this guy is literally me and my friends if our parents didn't stop us😂
and i thought William Osman and Michael Reeves was the deadlist duo we could had. Niel dwarfed them HARD
This just so random and wtf moment. I cant process his growing up experience. 🤣🤣
Y'know, I came into the podcast clips expecting to have my believe of Nigel's ridiculous chaotic neutral antics and crazy person persona dispelled somewhat. It has only been reenforced. This guy has got to be the most polite nutcase you'll ever meet, and frankly, what's more Canadian than that?
9:37 it's not about the journey it's about the *detonation*
My Ex did made fireworks with the twins when they were children.
My sixth graders build a bomb with dried ice and a plastic bottle when we were preparing our Science fair. Never been so shocked in my life. Luckily nothing happened.
Alternate title: How To Make Improvised Explosives! FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!!!!!!!
bro a 7th grader bringing a blowtorch to school, did he go to james lyng, that's an extremely james lyng thing to have happen. shit like that still happened when i went, and i was the least weird one for carrying a guitar everywhere i went and playing in class
im flabbergasted that at 15 he tried to make flash powder not because its flashpowder but because black powder is much more easily made and is higher grade explosive
I was making my own black powder and a lot of other flammable / explosives during school
6:18 thats galvanization, I made this experiment as well, but in high school. Even have uploaded it on youtube on my friends channel.
I've had one of those smoke bomb tubes explode in my hand when I was waving it around. It wasn't bad it hardly even hurt I don't even think I bled from it. I just think about how could it could've been, but didn't stop me from having a good time at the 4 of July event
When I was a kid (14-15) there were these firecrackers called Thunder King. It was a small tube on a plate that shot a ball up in the air and it explodes and make loud bang. We found a wooden box someone had thrown away that had a big hole on one side (speakerbox?). We threw one in there and it just blew it to bits. The thing that stopped me from playing with them was that I or someone else came up with the idea to put it upside down so tube shoots away and the ball stays on the ground. Worked the first time. The second time it fell over. Here we are, a bunch of kids standing in a wide circle around it. It shot away and didn't hit anyone but went by some kids and exploded a few yards behind them. That's when I had enough.
my dad once taught me about how to make a shrapnel explosion like he did as a kid. me and my friends were gonnna rreplicate it once but apparently you cant buy one of the ingredients for gunpowder anymore so we used "peeled firecrackers"
I did the penny color change experiment in high school chemistry
9:19 what?
i never heard of your podcast or seen your vids but i watch nilered and this is amazing contint dudes. its like a stoner like me talking to a smart person like him haha. it's the perfect combination.
😂😂 talking about making flash powder 'its not about the journey its about the destination' - no, it's about the detonation lol. missed pun opportunity lol
"you make Michael reeves look well adjusted"
*Nigel has existential panic*
"Oh noo..."
This is content GOLD
At some point when I was younger and stupider, I made explosives.. Peroxy acetone.. fun times. (I still have all my fingers)
"Where do you get zinc metal"
You know pennies are 98% Zinc metal, at least in the US, right? Like, you can actually just melt a penny and if it doesn't rupture the copper exterior from the pressure and shoot molten zinc in every direction, it you have zinc metal. Actually I'm not sure but I bet you can poke a hole in the penny and melt the Zinc out of it.
(I am absolutely not responsible if the penny explodes and you get molten zinc on something important).
uhmm, back when I use to grow up in Peru, kids used to take out the black powder, make a trail and light it to make it explode, you can buy fireworks in Peru, we use them in new years a lot, I think a teacher told us of a story of how a market exploded because of an accident with the fireworks, lot's of people got hurt...
I'm from Quebec too and indeed in the 80s and 90s it was fuckin free for all on those security laws. I'm not a chemist nor arson but I made a few of these too myself, our worst shot stopped after pool chlorine and milk in a sealed bottle bomb. a few of us mentioned making home-made thermite but you know life.
For anyone who is a fan of pipe bombs and other dodgy IEDs, I heavily reccomend the Ordenance Labs youtube channel.
👆
I completely understand Nigel giving up after being unable to make aluminium powder.
Aluminum powder is pretty easy to make
This dude is almost like a real McGyver.
My mate blew most of his thumb and forefinger off with a prop explosive.
I have a healthy ' don't fuck with those' attitude to explosives.
prop should be in quotes: All explosives are explosives.
Ziggs main
6:30 "I learned in the internet "
...in this youtube channel called nileGreen, and that was my inspiration to make my channel NileRed
lol
Why i feel so identified with nile
"You could do electrolysis on it."
Ah yes. I have made quite a few janky electrolysis setups with piles of 9V batteries. They do really strange things to Aluminium foil.
I'm a little concerned to use anything mains-connected though. Also electrolysis doesn't really like, do the same thing if you use AC power.
Also do not use tap water or you get black goo from the metal ions in the water becoming metal not ions.
This is such standard shit for curious kids swear I thought everyone was like this 😂
XD this reminds me of my best friend's dad. We are shocked he and his brothers survived childhood. just an example is when he was an adult, they threw seal bombs into buckets of gas XD
9:19 🤭
Crazy in fron the same place as him and done most fuck top thing he has done like making homemade firecraker 😂😂 good memories
Is their play button dented? When did that happen?
Ladybeard episode
Speaking of explosions, I remember a massive explosion back on August 4th at the Beirut Port, Lebanon.
The explosion force is like 2nd or 3rd before even Hiroshima itself.
I genuinely want him to say, It is cool but... Can it explode. 9:50
The most dangerous thing I've done was legit handle dynamite to blow up trees when I was like 15 I lived in Ohio at a farm were the closest neighbors were like 10miles away and I was going threw a old barn that had a lot of my grandfather's stuff in it he was a soldier and a minor for a long wile before he became a farmer and I found a old Dynamite crate with like 10 sticks of dynamite they were more on the small side and I just took them and taped them to trees and lit the fuses and ran away and ducked away in a hole I made and used one of thoses old World War scopes that angle up so you can see things wile in cover and I just watched it blow up tress in the middle of the woods this happened in the early 2000s at the time I didn't think much of it but being cool but now a days I realized just how crazy it was and I remember my dad talking about hearing loud bangs but didn't think much of it and just thought it was a hunter.
potassium nitrate aluminium and lamp black(carbon in a fine powder) is the recipe for flash powder
It's one of them, there are dozens of flash powders using various oxidizers and fuels.
I don't remember the name of it, but there's a plant that grows really fluffy and they used to use that as well for flash powder, usually for camera flashes.
gotta admire this dude even if he is a little nuts
Oh shit he's a fellow Québécois?
Represent
Styropyro is the upgrade version of Nile
This man discovered Napoli lore while doing shit with is dad
These tutorials on yt
Wonder when NileRed will create meth.
hes so cool
Who didn’t do electrolysis at 15?
I know, we all did.
I hate to say it but these hosts are kinda dim. Its really obnoxious.
NileGreen xd
of course this meme is a Quebecois.
.
Wanna be canadian so bad
I feel like you should not be allowed to post a video with explanations of all the different ways to make an explosive. Maybe bleep out the actual chemical names, or edit out the part where he mentions that you can just buy them at amazon/the store/etc.
Feels dangerous.
Like some curious kid, like Nigel, would definitely get inspired to try it at home and may not have the same level of safety considerations.
I did the firecracker stuff as well. It's not a big deal.
this can either serve as a deterrent or it could inhibit someone to do something bad. either way its not these guys’ fault for educating people on what these chemicals are actually capable of
If someone wants to do it, they'll find it. There's a reason their are bomb how-to's online.
Exploding your house while testing chemicals is clearly a skill issue
I definitely get what you mean it’s scary, especially since the podcast reaches millions of people.
On the one hand it educates people that things like these are super dangerous but
On the other hand people learn how easy and accessible dangerous things are
They'd love Explosions&Fire
yeah but EnF literally makes jokes about security hasards, at least Nile Teaches and mentions the hazards.
