In Australia we are lucky to have heaps of rest areas most with toilets, BBQ, some with showers and playgrounds for the kids.

@@AltLiving They are even bigger in person! Would highly recommend the redwood national park when you visit the states again.

Bro I think you were just too close to the road. You're not supposed to park there.

I hit my horn when I drive by squatters but not if you are just staying one night

@@aviationphd I would do the same. At the end of the day, no one wants people camping outside their home.

You have managed far more ‘stealth parking’ nights than the twelve ‘vlogs’ cover so one night when your sleep is interrupted is more a bump in the road… 😅

As much as it was annoyance to you, try to put yourself in their shoes. Most people lived peacefully before Covid then we all end up with influx of tourism. That ends up exhausting to local communities. Most gain very little from you buying gas and some groceries because all these places are owned by large corporations with fancy Accountants who make sure that they bypass paying fair share of tax. In addition, high tourism drove up housing prices because Corporations and people with deep pockets started buying up real estate, driving prices up and turning them into short seasonal rentals, while taking tax write off on low tourist season lack of rentals. Most locals moved away from central locations for a reason and now they see constantly RV's or Vans parked on a side of their roads (as you stated yourself, you couldn't find any parking).
I live in different US area with low population and that is also what happened to our communities. We, the locals cannot even find peace in our old, quiet spots because tourists flooded our state during Covid and now post Covid corps targeted us as their new, discovery for making money. Locals are taxed out of their own homes. Elders who lived in their houses for over 40 years are forced to sell due to huge increases in home prices that lead to huge increases in yearly Real estate tax. Our taxation system works very different than in Europe and so is medical care. You have unlivable retirement of $3822 a month plus you still have to pay monthly fee for healthcare about $200 a month and monthly cost of house tax in Cali is anywhere from $700 and up. The fancy living of Americans that people see on TV is not reality of average person in US. Most Americans work more hours than any European just to survive.
We had to drive last weekend for 35 extra miles just to find spot to park with our small trailer. The are end up having bad weather, so we had to spend entire weekend inside the trailer then head back home. We were able to find plenty of spots within 40 min drive. Now we see tourists getting into boon-docking, cramming themselves in every known to men peaceful spot then going on Facebook announcing to the rest of the world where to find them. That will not win any love from the locals. You would feel the same way if you were in their situation. Sorry for long post but hopefully you and others who read your posts will get better understanding of the situation.

Everything you are saying is right on the money. We purposely don’t post the spots we find anywhere for other campers. We are also as respectful as we can be to the locals. Every argument has two valid sides, we just happen to be the minority in this one 😊 Also. If someone was parked near my house, I would feel the urge to honk too 😁

Locals don't care that you've bought food, fuel etc. You're not supposed to park there. Find a more safe spot and if YOU do decide to park someplace like that move another 2 feet or so off the road you've got plenty of room to your right.

We were already at least 20 feet from the road 🤔 it was a super wide paved pull off.

Please stay in Cali, as you won't be welcome in the FLA.
