Parking Garage Stealth Camping

- I camped for the night hidden in my SUV in a parking garage, or parkade depending on what you call them. I needed to apply for my passport and the lines are notoriously long unless you're there first thing in the morning. Let's be honest, first thing in the morning is not my friend so I decided to camp out to be there bright and early. The garage was quite hot, but the camping was nice and stealthy.

Steves paranoia is the best
Oilers are in the playoffs/Finals and that is why the security is so high. Paranoia lol. And he drinks a beer to enhance his paranoia
Being a Canadian, and knowing how security guards work here. I find it hilarious that you were so nervous about the security guard walking back and forth, all these trying to do is check a box until his boss that he's doing something so that he doesn't get fired.
The only thing they care about is if you've actually paid for parking.

Welcome to Camping with Steve! That's why probably most of us are here.
So very many of us on here have lost loved ones, lost important things etc in our lives & we’re here both to support Steve who has lost so much himself & each other.
I don’t know you but I do know your life is worth living even through the constant pain you feel daily.
I can say it does get better especially as you interact with others near you in your life.
I pray/wish for the very best in your life. For God’s blessings & His peace to fill & comfort you.
I have had much of the same happen in my life recently. I agree with the sentiment. Steve is keeping me smiling right now.

As for your window ventilation , i suggest look into vent visors for your car. You'll be able to crack the windows open without people noticing
Yep, some AVS or Weathertech window visors/deflectors would do wonders.
great idea
You guys are thinking too much about the stuff, that makes no difference. At the distance, nobody would look at the mid-range SUV and go
"hey, why does it have it's windows cracked?" - They'll take it for granted, since the place is hot (IF anyone minds that at all)
Upclose, even the hidden under deflectors, the gaps would provide the smell of a sleeping person, also maybe breathing noise. So suspicious person would note that anyway, and the rest just wouldn't care, & let you be.

Yes! But also, downtown Seattle has the same thing. It’s not common knowledge but when you spend enough time in the maze you figure out how to get from one end of the city to the other without getting wet 😂. I suspect a lot of large cities with underground parking garages have similar situations. The municipal buildings are a good place to start spelunking. Happy adventuring! 🍺

@@Thagy1973 or maybe just go camping. But hey, to each their own.
I installed a lot of equipment in parking garages and I can tell you one thing. They do not care if you sleep in your car. They care more about property damage, break ins, and car thieft because they have to write a report up. The owners may care if you sleep in your car, but the people getting paid to keep an eye out do not.

After watching your videos for a long time i decided to try it out my self. I have now travelled thru 9 countries (soon to be 10) on 2 continents in my home built camper van and have been stealth camping the entire time.
I have experienced so much and met so many friendly people throughout the world and its all thanks to you.
So from a random Norwegian fan; thank you so much.
I stumbled across a guy (a traveling nurse) who lives in the back of his Chevy Suburban, and will often park in parking lots or parking garages. The back of his vehicle is a lot bigger, and a lot taller.
What I love about your videos is the creation of tension and "stealthness" that in reality, has no real justification. A friend and myself drove across Canada, and found backroads, Walmart parking lots, etc, and either pitched a tent, or slept in our car, without once being interrupted and asked to leave. We even ended up putting a tent on a trail in BC, that had dog walkers and runners early in the morning. We slept on golf courses as well. Never were we afraid or had to be "stealth."
This might work in rural areas like bc, but definitely not urban
Outstanding Steve. You could set up a lawn chair on your porch and grill a hotdog and I would watch. Just to hear your calm wisdom and soothing ways is a good way to spend my time.

I love this! I worked in parking garages for 10 years. From my experience our security guards really really didn't care about what went on in the garages. They would do their rounds every hour, talk on the phone, play video games, and occasionally partake in step twos or 420s lol. Overall they were there for show, they knew that, and didn't mind at all.

i know its been rough steve its been rough for me too but your perseverance is inspirational to me you never miss a beat cheers
I used to work security, and I'll say this much: sometimes it's a judgment call on whether something's genuinely worth your time and potential risk to bother with. Like, even if that security guard knew you were stealth camping, and that was technically against the rules, it is REALLY worth it to try and take some dude into custody or make him leave if all he's doing is sleeping in his car? If something more serious is going on, that's one thing, but a lot of things regarding security and enforcement is a gut check as to whether the juice is worth the squeeze.
Also, can I just say, it's nice to see a major city that actually takes security seriously, instead of taking law enforcement for granted and then seeing things fall apart into lawless wasteland.
We recently had a security guard killed in a parkade in Edmonton confronting car theives. So that security guard is not likely to do anything with that in mind.
You're not security if you don't have a gun and vest, you're just a low paid target.
@@opossumgrylls3275 Yes, well, not all people working a security gig can be certifiable badasses like you. Also, not for nothing, but a gun and a vest are no guarantee against getting got.

Haha, this is how I’ve attended several conferences and guitar shows.
