- In this video we'll forage some Yarrow from the wild to make our own Yarrow tincture. This is a powerful tincture that can be used externally and internally. Yarrow, or Achillea millefolium by its Latin name, is a powerful styptic and astringent herb that can be used to stop bleeding, relieve pain, and heal cuts and wounds. To make the tincture, you just need to simply collect your Yarrow and pick off the bad leaves. Then we'll take our good leaves and flowers and add them to our extractant to make the tincture. Once we've done this we just need to let it sit in a cool dark spot for up to 8 weeks. After that it is ready to strain and bottle.

LOVED YOUR NO NONSENSE good vibe...just got a good vibe.loads of you tube advisers ou there but liked your directness
Thank you! Very clear and easy to follow. I appreciate it!
Thanks for putting some of the beneficial properties in the description, I have been putting yarrow in my bath salts, but now you have inspired me to make a tincture !!
I just shared a yt video showing our yarrow. I’ve never made a tincture but look forward to doing so. Thank U! 🙂
Newbie here, really appreciate your video. Thank you! If I can offer a quick cheat, the salad spinner is really nice for speeding up drying after washing herbs. Then air dry per usual.
Agree, I have two of them !
Thank you soooo much! I'm learning a ton watching you.
You're very welcome, glad to be of some help!
Thank you for this video.
Thank you thank you thank you for sharing your knowledge!
You're very welcome!
Feels like fate brought this video to me ^^ I have some Yarrow growing in my yard right now and was planning on making a tincture within the next day or so with it, Then I log onto CZcams and see this video in my notifications :)
I think your label is fantastic!
I absolutely LOVE Yarrow. It's my first go to remedy.
It's definitely one of the best plants!
How do you identify it
Thank you ❤️
You're very welcome!
Good informational video , thanks for sharing , God bless !
You're very welcome!
Great video..Thank you!
You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
I usually dry my yarrow and use in tea or grind the leaves finely for when I need to stop bleeding.
Side note: use a smaller jar to avoid the airspace (oxygen is no tinctur's friend😉)
What does the tea taste like? Just the leaves or flowers too?
@@ElinWinblad I never make it straight, usually add it to my mix of mint, marigold and whatever else I feel like adding. I do include flowers at times. Really need to dig into it again and write down benefits etc.
Yeah, I thought I had a smaller jar but I didn't. I had to go buy more after filming this video, lol!
@@TrilliumWildEdibles even I who collects all kinds of jars at times run out of the size I need! But I just make more tincture😂
excellent 👍😀
Glad you enjoyed it!
You could write date on top of mason Jar. It has a sport for date an description
Would like if you could show the plants in more detail so I would know without doubt what to look for Thank you so much for your awesome channel
I have a full identification video of Yarrow on my channel if you're interested. I believe it's titled "Yarrow Herb Benefits and Identification"
@@TrilliumWildEdibles my bad thank you
How long is the shelf life and does it need refridgeration? And what is it good for? Please and thank you for your work
Kam8zi ni achi! Shocking me as well. Yarrow's all looking good at my place. About to get some today. I'll dry mine, smoke some. Just gathered a flush of reishi to fry up and dry some., share some Wliwni wji K'laloka thank you for your work.
You're very welcome! I've always found Yarrow too harsh a smoke, even if mixed with Mullein. Is it always harsh or am I missing something in the smoke mixture/process?
Always love seeing you in the comments!
🙏❤️
Can you get a Stronger tincture if you puree the yarrow first, then after the wait time, filter the puree out of the alcohol with a coffee filter??
On a whim a few years ago I decided to do a steam distillation of yarrow flowers and the essential oil is a brilliant blue color!
I suspect it might be due to azulenes as the color was very similar to common mugwort essential oil, but when I sent it off for GCMS I wasn’t able to conclude anything for sure.
So I’m curious if the tincture will show any blue color but the extracted chlorophyll might overshadow it as it tends to do
Hope you have a good weekend!
My Yarrow tincture usually comes out a dark greenish brown color. I'd like to see the deep blue you're talking about. Maybe I'll have to make some essential oil sometime.
Thank you so much Josh. Absolutely love all your videos you have helped me a tremendous amount. I thought we were supposed to use 100 Proof vodka not 40 proof please explain thank you
I always use 100 proof
40 % is the lowest amount usable. So basically as long as your alchohol is 40% or higher you're good. Most people use everclear and some use vodka. I prefer my tincture a bit more mild so I use vodka. It's really up to you and your preferences though.
Many have said if it’s fresh plants use 75 percent or higher because of water content in the fresh plant. Lower percentage in dried plant.
I've learned to use at least 80 proof which is 40% alcohol volume
I grew yarrow. When I harvested I did not get a strong smell, I’m curious if I harvested too late and lost the medicinal value.
💪💚
why would you pull up the roots?
🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hey Josh👋🏽 Could you explain why you call your channel Trillium Wild Edibles? If it is named after a plant called Trillium, do you have a video about it? I'd like to hear about it from you if you don't mind!😊
How do you use this tincture
But what is it used for? Do you drink it?
I do have a question does it matter what the alcohol proof is or does it have to be a specific percentage???
At least 80 proof which would be 40%. You can go higher if you prefer. Some people like to use everclear for example.
Would it help with the extraction to combine the yarrow and liquor in a blender with a couple of quick pulses?
Yes actually! Just be sure to strain it well before bottling.
Curious what the black spots were and why you don't want it in the tincture?
Potentially a type of mold or fungus or even bacterial infection. Weconky want clean leaves that are green so we're getting just Yarrow and not any potentially harmful things from the potential infection of those leaves.
I saw some bright orange flowers in the wild that I'm pretty sure is yarrow. Would this be good to make a tincture with?
It could be Yarrow but I couldn't say exactly. There are other colored varieties but the only two good for medicine are the white ones and the light pink/white ones. The other varieties have toxic elements to them. To be safe only use plants you can identify and know are safe.
P
What do you use this for?
This can be used internally for easing pain and inflammation, to clear bacterial infections. Externally it can be used to stop bleeding and to help seal up wounds much faster as well as cleaning out the cut due to its antibacterial nature. There's several more uses but that's what I use it for the most.
I have no idea what yaro is
Do you take this internally? Is there anything you shouldn't take while taking this yarrow tincture?
I use it internally and externally. I'd avoid things like acetaminophen and other pharmaceutical products that are processed by the liver because Yarrow is processed by the liver and it's an alcohol based medicine. Granted it's only about 20 to 30 drops per dose, but still better safe than sorry. It wouldn't surprise me if there's more but I can't say with any certainty. You might be better off asking your GP or PCP if you're really concerned about any contraindications.
Where is this mans location?

Face tinctura de coada soricelului. Cu alcool.
What time of year is this ripe for Harvest
In Texas its in full bloom in June.
Depending upon where you live it would anywhere from early may all the way to August/September. In my area in Indiana I find it from mid may until mid to late August.
@@TrilliumWildEdibles where abouts in Indiana are you working from,,,,,,,what county? I'm over here in Jackson county!
Central Indiana. I film and teach in Morgan/Monroe/Hendricks/Marion counties.
Lake County Indiana
So I always was told to use no less than 80% proof alcohol ….so this seems pretty weak for a tincture to last a long time ….
Yes, 80 proof is same as 40% alcohol by volume
Yarrow in a Jarrow lol
Lol!
Obsessing over getting the yarrow dry doesn’t make sense. There’s water in the alcohol mixture.
I take it you mean 80 proof when you say 40% alcohol. Needlessly confusing.
The simpler the info the better.
I use 80 proof vodka.
This yarrow tincture really works.
I don’t know exactly how the tincture thing works but it sucks cause I was an alcoholic for almost 25 years and have been sober for 4, and I can’t drink. Guess I’d just have to eat it.🤣
You can make alcohol free tincture! This link should give you a good idea of how to go about it.

@@TrilliumWildEdibles Thanks so much. I will check it out cause I love looking around for medicinal plants. Lots of people have no idea how much food is literally in there front yards, and people need to learn these things before it’s to late. This world we live in ain’t getting no easier, or better.👍
Don't wash the herb
Washing is important to remove possible contaminants like bacteria and small insects which would taint the medicine. Unless grown in a controlled environment like a greenhouse, one should always wash herbs before making medicine.
