In this video I clean and restore a Top Loader NES I bought. As far as I know this is the only video on CZcams about this, and I say that will confidence because I haven't bothered to search and see if anyone else has done it. - Zábava
Thank you. I had a bought a "broken" system. And because of this video I purchased the cleaning kit and followed your instructions.
The thing works every time, first try!
Wanted to thank you and drop a review
Happy to help!
This was incredibly helpful, you essentially have an ultimate restoration video for all of the components of the nes 101.
I've been forum jumping for a while looking up ways to clean but you have everything all here in one video.
Thanks so much for uploading!
Wifey got me one for xmas, can't wait!
This is exactly the way I've been cleaning my retro consoles after finding them out in the wild. I think it's kinda fun cleaning and restoring an older, dirty console. Just seeing it work, shiny and clean, beneath your tv is gratifying :)
Thanks Adam for the walkthru...appreciate your time /skill...merry Christmas
Adam, at the end of the video you said you didn't know if the system works, AFTER spending all that time cleaning it. Don't you think it would've been smart to test the system BEFORE spending time cleaning it?!
Thanks for watching, Merry Christmas.
I've been binge watching your vids I love them
+Miller SI Thanks!
+AdamKoralik I'm curious. If you didn't wanna mod the nes top loader to output composite, if I were to instead buy an RF to composite or RF to S-Video converter, would that work?
Thanks for watching.
My pleasure, thanks for watching.
i never had a top loader nes system before the pin connector is very different what type of connector is it because it looks like a super nintendo pin connector is that what they used for that system
Thanks! I was going to clean my Dreamcast and was just wondering if there was a faster way to air dry a system's casing.
Do the top loader have the same design flaw as the early model SNES systems turning yellow?
@adamkoralik hey I'm getting a top loader, and does getting the AV MOD, fix the jail bars problem? Why are there the bars anyway?
Great job man.... I cleaned mines out the other day I didn't know about the pledge though!!!
I’ve been curious on buying this for awhile while I know it’s RF does the RF cable go into the ANT IN RF port on the TV or your cable box cuz I’m worried if it’ll work or not
I don't use RF much these days, but I always go with a direct connection.
Happy to help.
How come with the nes top loader with some tvs you got to turn on the system before the tv to get a picture and sound or turn TV on first then turn system on flip the channels back and forth to get picture and sound? And will Mr clean eraser make the system white again? And mines got a crack in the plastic what do I use to fill in the crack? Sorry for asking alot
Because it uses RF, and RF is horrible.
Depends on what's causing the discoloration.
I'm not sure how to go about dealing with the crack.
No problem.
Mr. Clean should thank you, for endorsing his product on a regular basis.
No problem bro, thanks for watching.
It's mind-boggling in the case of the NES. The Famicom's 1993 update ADDED composite AV out, while the NES's update took it away!
thank you. well done. i'm about to clean my games properly right now. and i have a top loader, so this was perfect.
Happy to help.
Would security bits work for taking systems like that apart
would you want to clean the contacts on the motherboard as well?
I forgot to ask a ? But I got a game genie and I can't find the adapter online but I have to force it in the top loader and I take it out very slowly after using it but when I go to force it in and take it out slowly will it still damage the connector over time? And if it does do I keep using game genie to make it stay working?
The Top Loader was designed not to work with the Game Genie actually, I would highly recommend NOT trying to force it in there.
Wii's use tri wing screws. Good vid Adam! Love my top loader.... looking to do a a/v mod.
I'm thinking of sending it to a friend to mod it for composite, having only RF is a pain.
Where do you get that cleaning kit? I have a top loader and I want to clean the pins but I don't want to use a credit card.
This day and age, maybe EBay. It's not common any more.
only an rf? how do you run it on your rig? i wonder if there's a way to mod it to the usual yellow and red component,
I understand not to blow into cartridges. But will it work if you used compressed air to blow into it.
Not as well as Windex and q-tips.
Awesome pickup Adam. I think the top loader looks pretty slick. I kinda like it better than the original nes. Plus you can do a AV mod to the top loader to get a more cleaner signal if you have the soldering skills.
hey im getting a nes 2 but its yellow and dirty should I open it up and clean it and follow the instructoins on this video?
I would like to you see ya review the system. I like watching ya videos and i think it would be cool to see your input on the system it self.
Hey I have a dreamcast that is not reading any games it just refuses to load them. Is there a way to fix that? I tried the little diod thing with pliers but I think I might have damaged it when trying to turn it. Any ideas?
Would you recommend putting a hair drier to the wet plastic, or can that cause damage?
Oh and what is it that cleaning kit called can I get it on ebay or amazon?
Thanks.
Sega CD Model 2 is easy. Just open it up, there isn't much inside.
Standard procedure, clean the insides and the plastic, then clean the laser.
Hey! Lovin the videos. But I have to ask, does the ol' WD-40 trick work on these older white consoles as well? Or is it really only useful for black ones?
Probably a stupid question, but if your breath damages the contacts, wouldn't Windex do it too? Or does it but at least it gets the dirt off?
Hey Adam, I know you said no humidity, but can I you use rubbing alcohol to clean boards in general?
Hey, what size is the game-bit for this particular console?
Yeah, I've heard of that too.
Cool, that stuff is great.
Adam, you should really do a cleaning video on the Sega CD (Preferably the Model 2). I'm most likely getting one for Christmas, with a few bonuses. Once I get it, I plan to clean it out sometime after I play it.
+ Good cleaning videos. I like them before I watch them. :-)
Does the Top Loader use the same cables and power supply as the first NES?
yes
Excellent video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Good point, I forgot about that.
I need help when i try to play a game on my top loader it only shows a gray a white screen what must i do please help
What is the best solution to avoid the RF Video quality on the top loader?
your method for cleaning the NES cart-will that work as well on the GBA SP? Cause i always blew my carts... :(
I got a new question to ask. But before I ask. I went ahead and bought a hyperkin nes retron 1. Reason I bought it was to make my nes and nes top loader as collectables and didn't want them to break down on me cause there expensive to get repaired or rebuy them. It works with all my games and orginal nes block controllers. My ? Is how do I clean it and clean the pin connector can you make a video about it sometime?
You mean how to clean the clone console?
I don't support those. While your reasons make good sense, I would never buy one of those so, I wouldn't make a video about it.
I imagine you'd clean it the same way as any other top loading console.
Nice job!
Happy to help, I bed with enough effort you could get that fourth one to work too.
The metal housing around the connector port can that be replaced?
I'm not sure to be honest.
@@AdamKoralik took mine apart to give it a good clean... the metal part has seen better days. Connector works fine... i forgot it was a hi def nes... been in storage for a while.
Have you ever done a Sega Saturn cleaning video? If not, is there any chance you will at some point? Also, great video! I'd really like to get my hands on one of those NES 2s someday, especially since I'm in need of a working NES...
You could speed it up by using a towel and compressed air, but air drying is just more thorough.
Not sure, it's the bigger of the two. If that helps.
That was wise of you.
Would love to see a review of this.
It's probably totally burned out, you'll probably need to replace the laser entirely. Which tends to be more trouble than it's worth.
You should get your hands on a AV Famicom and do a cleaning and restoring video.
Yeah, I'd like to get this one AV modded.
Adam, what did you get for Christmas??
I got my Sega CD, and Action Replay Cart, X-Men:CotA, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2!
I used to swear by the whole blowing into the cart thing up until I recently managed to get another SNES. Now that I'm a little more tech savvy I just realized the only reason it really works is that you're reseating the cart, just pulling the game out and reseating it once or twice seems to do the trick as long as the contacts are clean in the first place. The blowing in the cart thing is probably just something someone came up with by chance or did it to trick owners into reseating the cart.
John Lock got off the island and dedicated his life to cleaning, interesting epilogue.
Yes, but that won't do much for the yellowing. For that Google the Retr0bright method.
Cool stuff. Did you pick up a neo geo x?
I never claimed to be just a Dreamcast channel...ever..
I have plenty of Dreamcast videos to do, but being unsubscribed will make it hard for you to know about it.
But, do as you will.
I tried cleaning my top loader and all I’m getting still is a green screen when I turn it on, help!!! Idk what to do is it the contacts I’m so frustrated
Try cleaning it.
do you have an av famicom? got one recently and absolutely adore it !!! ^-^
Yes.
and the thing that covers the cartridge slot is called a dust cover, which ironically doesn't actually prevent dust from getting into the system.
Because it gets the job done.
Well, good luck to you.
Would invisible glass cleaner work?
Probably, not sure, never tried it.
I wouldn't mind seeing a review on this version of the NES versus the original grey box.
True.
He means the screwdriver bit, not the size of the system.
The Top Loader doesn't have a 10 NES chip, Nintendo never included them.
can you make a system review, cause im looking at one with 28 games on ebay for 60 dollars
My av is messed up only works like 20 percent of time and I cleaned the heck out of it at suggestions? Also my parents got it for me when I was 5 so sentimental
Can you be more specific?
@@AdamKoralik the part the plugs into the unit from the tv cable jack
Took Windex and some Q-tips To 4 or my non-working gameboy games,
3 of them are working again, Thanks for the advise!
Adam, are you ever gonna do game reviews?
I ordered one, it hasn't arrived yet.
can you do a gamerade on a mini snes
One other cleaning tip I would recommend is to spray some Windex into a paper towel and run it up and down the controller cord. Those things are usually caked with dirt.
Yes, q-tips and Windex will work on GBA cartridges.
Would you sell your nes 2?
Nintendo has a proud tradition of fucking its fans over. Especially with video quality. See my Wii Mini rant/unboxing for more on that.
You'd have to mod it to get composite. I might send it to my friend Raymond to do that.
Wow, not a bad price. Have you ever played Final Fantasy 7 by any chance?
Sure thing.
I find it kind of interesting the NES top loader shares a lot of similar internal design features of the N64 Particularly in the switches.
Makes sense, after this the next system they designed was the N64. (SNES was already out.)
I growing weary of these videos, Adam.
I always was able to open an NES cartridge with just a flat head.
AV (composite) looks good compared to RF, but that's it.
you use tri-wing screwdrivers for the wii and most of the newer nintendo consoles
It's got to help a bit.
Ha, I never noticed that before.
I've heard this for Tri-Wing and Torx 4 and other rare screwheads, but it's very disposable.
