Though "What's The Use?" was written by Isham Jones, and his great band -- one of my all-time favorites -- recorded an excellent version, my favorite treatment of this nifty one has always been Tram's. I love everything about the production: Fud Livingston's arrangement; Lang's beautiful support; Min Leibrook's bass sax anchoring things; George Marsh's exuberant drumming; Bill Rank's trombone busting out in the opening chorus; Andy Secrest's Bixesque bridge; and Tram's lovely, ruminative 16 bars. A gem of a record! ... "Hittin' The Bottle" is fun, too, although Tram wasn't the greatest singer.

Jack Fulton is definitely high on my list of 'singers that don't look anything like you'd expect them to'. I imagine if you came up to someone in 1928, showed them photos of Whiteman singers Bing Crosby and Jack Fulton, and asked them which one of those two would become a national sensation among American females within the next 5 years, I guarantee 90% of them would be guess wrong.

Jack Fulton is just AWESOME! Too bad He did not Record More Records! I LOVE Bing Crosby`s Brunswick Records, Except for one I have a total Collection even a unissued "Here Is My Heart" The only one I am missing is "How The Time Can Fly" it was not issued as well! Looking for a Test Copy! Jack could have been a AWESOME Brunswick, Columbia, OKeh, & Victor Crooner indeed! His Rendition of "I`ll Be A Friend With Pleasure" is too DIE For! I also Love Paul Whiteman`s "I`m Bringing A Red Red Rose" vocaled By Jack! GREAT Record!

He was a very muscular fellow. While the Whiteman orchestra was at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in the early 30s in Chicago, he became quite good at vollleyball games with the rest of the ork.

A little over a year ago I was sick in bed with the holidays, and while looking for new pieces to listen to I stumbled across your channel. I have been listening to your uploads ever since, and I am loving each one. Thank you for providing us all with this beautiful music. (You know, your uploads make for a nice digital archive in case some of these records ever go lost).

Beautiful song; Jack Fulton was a trombonist and vocalist with Paul Whiteman's orchestra!

.....so, are you going to leave us dangling with curiosity? How did Fulton affect Bix's trumpet? If you've got some scuttlebutt heretofore unknown, you are now obliged to talk. I would like to make news on my channel before CNN gets to it.

@@janettewalker3991 Oh, ....that's a relief, I thought you were going to say that Bix tried to emulate Fulton's winey falsetto voice. That would have been a disaster! Of course, the Trumbauer influence on Bix is well known.

.... if my life depended on it, I would still not have any idea how to make a video. I don't even own a cell phone -- I don't know how they work! I have a 1932 black and chrome Automatic Electric that has beautiful sound quality. I live by the bare necessities: oxygen, water, nutrition, and shellac. That is all anyone needs in life. .....but thank you for being on board with my music -- all your very kind comments are appreciated.
