This playlist got me through my time in Quarantine and virtual learning. I would play this, the playlist with Blue River, Swanee Shore’s playlist, Ruth Etting’s and Louis Armstrong’s Ain’t Misbehaving, and Dreams Do Come True in New Orleans. Those songs got me through my 2nd half of 7th grade. This is just a thanks for the minor escapism from almost failing my classes back in 2020. (I passed 7th -no holdbacks, and, currently, had a 3.8 GPA in my junior year, don’t worry.) Thanks, man.

I was born in 1957 what do I know? No synthesizers or fake instruments they had to learn to play those instruments and learn them well and smooth the only Electronics they had was to amplify it with radio tubes and microphones takes a lot of ability and talent to make a song like this listen to that guitar player in all those instruments...

I was a dedicated teen 1010 WINS listener. The morning I turned it on and heard the format change to all news, I cursed a blue streak. Stan Z. Burns stayed on doing a news anchor day part. For months I turned it on hoping the format would revert. No such luck. I hated WABC for their 20 song play list. AND it was difficult getting WMCA's signal out to Princeton NJ. WINS was the best station for new songs. The first time I heard The Beatles was when Murray the K played She Love You in Sept. 1963. All news WINS survived but almost everything else from those days is gone. Sad. . ..

I prefer the Okeh version. This is good, one cannot fault the technical playing but to me it lacks a certain something the Okeh version had, a certain Joi d’vivre that, to me, this one does not quite catch.

Exceptionally clean work for 1930 by Victor - each soloist is really clear and up-front. The piano is mic'd especially well (whereas a lot of work from this period had the instrument at the back of the hall).

Lord in Heaven, how did you get hold of "A Rhythmic Dream"? All the other tracks I've heard of it, have dull sound and stem from the same tape someone made from this record at some point in time - a tape that has a flutter problem during the last piano solo. I thought this recording was lost, except for that one, faulty tape, and then you present me with this wonderful, almost hi-fi rendition! 1920's futuristic jazz is my special interest. Thank you so much!

Another example of why Frank Sinatra was the very best. It was more than just hitting the right notes. It was the nuance of his voice to sing softly or rise with a crescendo with just the right amount of volume & force. It was his impeccable phrasing & timing & breathing. One of the very best things was the very special way he treated his young fans. My mom was one of those fans who got to know him personally in the '40s. He took the time show her kindness & guidance & even to look out for her when he thought she needed it. It meant a lot to her. She lived to be 93 & passed 4 months ago. The last song I played for her in this world was Lost In The Stars by Frank Sinatra. His voice was just about the only thing that brightened her spirits at the end. Thank you, Frank Sinatra. We only met once, but you touched a lot of lives.
