Purdy is only in his 2nd year as the last pick of the draft but he got criticism like he is a no. 1 draft pick who already play more than a couple season.
I'd probably argue he got even more. When TLaw led a comeback against the Chargers after throwing 4 picks he was praised, but when Purdy led a comeback against GB, it was all about how his poor performance put them in that position...

I think a lot of the negativity - at least from pundits - is ego. They think they know who is going to be great and who is not (despite all historical evidence to the contrary), and while they'll let a guy like Purdy have a magical stretch, he's gotta fall back to earth at the end or he's making them look like idiots for dismissing him. Some of the rest is just the general addiction of pundits to hyperbole and overreaction. I'm not a 49ers fan at all, but I hope they win and Purdy gets named MVP.
And they forget what Brock did in his first playoffs too I hope he win his ring this year

The college system is great for US sports as a general rule. The one exception to that statement is the level of criticism young pros can get from minute one. In European leagues of the other sport known as football, if a young player doesn't perform, 90% of the time it's the manager's fault for picking him inappropriately.
