I put a plastic kiddie pool under my truck when I did my water pump. $5.99 at the dollar store saved me a lot of mess and headache of cleaning up. 👍
I'll have to remember this my burb has 350k miles its gonna need one soon lol
That’s a good idea
Last month I had to replace the alternator, water pump and radiator on my 2000 Tahoe. While the front of the engine was open, I went ahead and replaced the plugs and wires as well.
All of those parts were still cheaper then one monthly payment on a new truck!
Love the videos!!!
Thanks man, sometimes I just forget that.
Yeah I have a 2013 rear wheel drive and want a four wheel drive. Thinking about getting a second generation Tahoe ($7 to $10 thousand) and selling the 2013 (for about $18 thousand) and using some of the difference for upgrades and repairs to the second gen.
Yes sir
Ben, I did the same along with having the power steering lines replaced and AC system replaced. My 01 Tahoe with 210,000 runs great (knocks on wood).
Yep!!
The more it breaks down, the more videos. Hell yeah, so sorry for your loss, the water pump had a great life. Lol
When I usually buy older cars I usually replace damn near the whole suspension, hoses, all the fluids, etc. A little expensive but worth it.
In process, bushings will be eventually replaced on mine. Just did pickup tube gasket
@@shadowopsairman1583 I'm in. The process of mine, new weather strips, hoses and all that good stuff.
OMG, the noise you made when you hurt yourself... I make the same one. I felt that, way over here in WA state. Damn, Matt. Keep up the good work.
I subbed to watch the Tahoe content a long time ago when you bought it from auction. I don’t own one, I just enjoy you and and the content 👍 keep up the good work!
I'll tell ya buddy..., I have owned an '04 Suburban Z71 since it's birth. You bought The BEST vehicle for a TubeShow. They are LEMMONS! I have practically rebuilt this truck TWICE going on the Trifecta! Blown Head at 140K miles, (2) transmissions each at 70K miles, (2) encoder motors, (2) fuel pumps, (2) Break boosters, (2) Transfer Case repairs, Rear Main Seal, steering gear box, Rear Glass Hinges etc., etc., etc.!
I HATE this truck but I love it just as much. I can't quit her, you know what I mean?
I haven't Subbed yet but I got my eye on you.
I have a 01 Tahoe “Squatch Mobile” is what I call her 😏 with a front end SS conversion done to her. It has the elec fan upgrade and no it wasn’t easy but loving it.
Love the Tahoe content. I love my Tahoe a bunch. I just picked up a 2006 Escalade with 6.0 and AWD to tow my trailer. It is so good.
Lol I just picked up an 06 escalade as well and thats how I found this channel. Also going to be a tow rig
I can't get over how much he sounds like Ray Romano
He found a 10mm socket faster than any human ever! This guy is a GOD!
You are the reason I have a 03 yukon Denali, I started watching your videos when you first got the Tahoe and I had to have one. Couldn't find a Tahoe, but a nice Yukon popped up one day on marketplace and I had to have it. :-) Keep up the great videos.
It sucks for you that it breaks down but that means more videos for us 😂 great video
Shout out from Japan! Always enjoy your Tahoe videos!
I love the tahiti videos helps me out alot to learn to do maintenance on my avalanche 5.3 and yes i feel ir pain with those clamps
Man your Tahoe vids are the best
I had to LOL when that clamp popped🤣. Been there done that!! Vacuum filler is your friend and makes the job 100% easier. Might suggest a set of hose clamp pinch off pliers.
I laughed reading the caption.. “I need a new car…” “I knew this was coming” 😂
14:00 Ding! 😂 great vid!
I love the Tahoe videos. Keep going with them!!!
Good stuff. Always love the Tahoe content.
love all your vids awesome that it was an easy fix!
"...cat dookie box..." 😂
Thank you so much for the video! Planning on changing it on mine soon.
Just got my 05 Tahoe back on the road. Put in a new radiator. Need to do so many mods/upgrades to it. Was considering upgrading the interior to an Escalade or Denali. Been wanting to check out the local junkyards to see what's out there.
I feel your pain. I have both an expedition and a BMW 740i, plus taking care of my family's CTS and the recently acquired 750IL. 2 need brake jobs, expedition need rear suspension trailing links (rust holes in them...) and the 750IL is still stuck in Transmission Failsafe Mode. And somehow I have to find time to for the "day job".
#FleetCurse
What year is your expedition? I have a 07'. I think the ac compressor is about to go. Replaced the clutch and pulley/bearing but it's still clicky sounding when the ac engages.
@@gjenkins1660 Mine is 97 5.4 4x4. Is it a click noise ONLY the second it engages, or constant when it is engaged? IIRC, these are electromagnetic clutches, so a sketchy Main ground can make them act up.
I didnt miss a new vehicle somewhere , did I? I love this stuff. Good job. I also love seeing you make as big a mess as I do.
I love the new intro clip - doing a burnout in the Camaro!
Hi! On my 2004 Tahoe on a run of 235,000 km, the pump also flowed, I think it's very cool when the part has such a large resource. Now there are no such machines, GMT800 is real, simple and generally very reliable.
This helped me a ton! It’s likely that im going to be replacing my water pump soon. I love the Tahoe and GMT800 content because I have an 03 Silverado 4x4. I definitely think a little reliable 4 banger beater, whether it’s an s10, ranger, tacoma, or even a civic, would be good to have. If I had one, my Silverado would be in a much better place right now. But, I’m 17, fixin up a rusty truck that sat for years, and I wouldn’t trade it for a brand new high country!
I have a 02 Tahoe and my water pump went out a couple months ago and I wish you had a video up ahha good luck tho!! Hopefully she doesn’t break down anymore
181k miles on my ‘05 Escalade and still has the original pump. Glad to see it’s not too hard to change.
When I changed the radiator on my 2001 Silverado I got a mortar mix pan at Home Depot, it's huge, and I got the small one. I got that tip from Brian on the How To Automotive channel.
So while i was working on my Tahoe, i found that the coolant resivour cap makes a perfect plug for that lower radiator hose. Barely lost any coolant replacing my thermostat. 👌🏾
As a Jeep owner, I feel your pain. They're like PAY ME ATTENTION! and boom your armpit deep in part replacement.
This vid dropped at a pretty great time for me, as my '03 Yukon xl Denali (6.0) seems to be due for a water pump. This will be a big help!
I aspire to be doing as good as you do, if I can one day use break clean the way you oh so generously do, then i will know I've made it in life lmao.
I have a 06 4.8 how can i add a lil more power... also planning on lowering it ...had it since 09 and im barely at 142+ miles ..GREAT VIDEOS 👍
These videos are great, I myself had a 2004 tahoe LT. Same color as yours.
NO FKNNNN WAY!!! I have been watching your videos since you purchased Tahiti and never knew you were in Staten Island 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Do an efan conversion less stress on water pump, I did mine on a 2004 tahoe.
I Can't wait for Tahiti's New Camshaft video!!
I was wondering about your break job upgrade can i do the same upgrade on my 2001 GMC Sierra i wanted to upgrade to the 2007 breaks as well
YES!!! Motley Dr. Feelgood T-shirt.. lol love it!!!
Matt, the heater core fittings at the firewall break super easy and will leave you stranded too, if you haven’t done those I’d highly recommended doing them. Had one pop on my yukon recently, fortunately I was close to home.
Brother I use all your know how and expertise on my 03 suburban ("HULK") and it runs like a charm. Thank you Tahiti...lol
Ok you caught me... I sabotaged the Tahiti to get more Tahoe content
Excellent job 👍
I did the pump on my 5.3 avalanche. Damn gaskets kept sliding off. I was losing my mind. And i did exactly what you.
At least shes keeping you busy lol ive been getting my ass handed to me by my 04 Silverado 2500hd. Shes got the 6.0 im trying to narrow down this p0300 code. She only has 111k but runs rough as hell when towing and only stumbles a little at idle and low rpm unloaded. Gonna do my intake manifold gaskets and knock sensors with the wiring tomorrow. Praying that will work lol. Keep up the great content man i cant wait to see more on the T/A
Dirty maf sensor or bad plug wire has caused that code for me.
Don't miss the end, I have an idea.
You should look into a Chevy Cruze. Great on gas and can squeeze a little performance out of them
@@brianmccoy8423 definitely anything BUT a Chevy Cruze, they’re complete fucking garbage
Might as well but a GEO....
That's all the Cruze is.
@@matthewjensen9550 well yeah but once you replace all the junk parts i mean
I have been a fan of you since the Chevy Tahoe videos
Feel ur pain rebuilt.my 4l60e in my 03 suburban everything was running perfect until a cooler.line blew off.from.fitting now its slipping looks like i need to.rebuild again 😐😐
I need my transmission rebuild 🤕
Hey matt, i just noticed..thats my iroc on the calendar in the background 😂😂 super random i saw that
Hello Matt,
Any chance on a video for replacement of the oe radiator to all aluminum radiator
Dude, if you want a good beater, get yourself a 03-05 Chevy Cavalier with a stick shift. I got one for $900 almost 4 years ago. Still running strong! Replaced the coil pack, front wheel bearings and the timing chain, but not bad for a daily driver over a 4-year period. Plus, it's fun to drive and easy to work on.
Turbo kit coming for the 4 cylinder! 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks 👍
A cam swap was 80% ready to be done, god damn it Matt !!
For the Efans, no need to by "ready" made harness, look for a 04-06 sierra front end harness (headlights-fans) it's plug and play with oem connectors.
Can you do a video on the mirror signal markers. Rt one is dim on my yukon 2004. Ty for the videos.
Water on the water pump bearing great lol 100% Antifreeze. I've never changed out a pump.
Simple easy job. Had to do it 2K miles ago. Had to replace my radiator too after cracking it.
2 step..11ft lbs and final 22fts..perfrct time to do the hoses and the heater core hose adapter that commonly breaks. Also ac belt and tensioner if needed
Great choice on the GATES WATER PUMP they have great products, i did mines last year on mt burban with 180k. Btw get your belts from gates too.good stuff bro.
Hey bro, the factory efan conversion actually isn't all that difficult, if you get a chance to find one at the junkyard, it's not a lot of work, you have to pull the headlight harness if you want I can kinda sorta walk ya through getting one out
@LsxMatt I have a 2005 Tahoe, and mine did the exact same thing. I had 125k when it went, and I've changed coolant twice, once for maintenance, once for a bad thermostat, all with distilled water and Dexcool. I had no leaks at all, then one day, bam....starts pouring out of the weep hole, right in my driveway after I came home. Weirdest thing ever. Normally they seep from the weep hole, and have dried coolant trails down the pump, but not mine. I guess mine wanted attention too.
Cobalt SS Matt Be a good one for a beater, quick, four cyl, and if so chosen could be a future project! Keep up the great vids Matt.
I did my water pump a few months ago easy job best piece of advice is use a small c clamp holing the belt to the bell of the water pump puly and then you can break the fan
Ahh Yess.... Best set plans of mice and men!
Great video. The 2004 Tahoe is a tank.
This was perfect for me, Iam on hold right now because out of work as far as up grades , but I had a leak about three weeks now and I keep an eye on it I just drive to bus stop and commute to Manhattan on bus . Iam just worried if I take apart, I won’t get it back together.but excellent video.
Have u ever changed the coil wire harness I have a misfire changed everything And now I’m thinking maybe the harness is too old and causing the misfire
Late but... can you tell me what tire size and drop/lift (if any) the Tahoe has? Thank you.
And you used orange dex-cool!
had my cluster randomly go off on my 04 tahoe, none of the gauges work. back lights work. check engine is on. blinkers work. any idea of what it might be?
Great tech video. I have a 2013 Sierra 5.3 liter truck. It has 78K miles on it and I was thinking that at 100K to just change the water pump and fuel pump to prevent getting stranded. What are your thoughts? Maybe do video on preemptive change outs to prevent being stranded and at while age/mileage? Keep up the great work!
Mine is in the shop. Complete brake lines, fuel pump and now they a fixing two broken exhaust manifold bolts to fix a P0430 code. It will probably run over $3k.
when are you going to install that DVD player. I neeed to install mine on my denali
I came here for the Trans Am videos, I stayed for the Tahoe antics. LOL. I have an almost identical Trans Am I've owned since I was a kid (I'm old now).
Great vids Matt. Keep up the great work.
Bottom clip got me to few months ago I change the radiator of my pops Escalade with him and it was annoying but good thing his 2010 has electric fans easy job
Matt, can you do a video on how much you have invested in Tahiti? With and without sponsors? I would greatly appreciate it. I am doing a similar build with a 2003 suburban and your videos are extremely helpful
Just find another cheap Subaru for your daily.
I like the Tahoe videos because they can CrossRef to my 99 Silverado too.
Speaking of which, meaning something that can shut your vehicle down fast, I had an incident that turned out to be a really easy fix but put the truck in limp home mode and shut the 4X4 system down completely. I wanted to share the story with everyone just in case it happens to someone else too because it was a bit of digging and research to figure it out.
I had started it a little over a week ago on a cold morning, we had just gotten our first snowy North Dakota morning, and I set the auto 4x4 switch to 4L. The little clicks you hear when the mechanism is changing the transfer case clicked like normal, but suddenly all the 4x4 lights on the buttons went out. The truck was in 2 wheel low, and transmission was in limp home.
I did some online research, and had figured it was the 4x4 engagement motor on the front side of the transfer case that went out. It's not a very difficult job to fix, you just need to remove the front driveshaft because it's in the way and it's easier if the truck is lifted for easier access to all the parts, and it's a fairly quick replacement. Plus, the motor isn't very expensive, I even found one on Walmart.com for a little over $100.00.
I contacted a couple of friends about how difficult it would be and the one friend said it's pretty easy, but I should look for a blown fuse first just to eliminate that possibility. Well, the only 4x4 fuse in the fuse box inside the cab was good. Incidentally if someone doesn't know where it is, it's on the drivers side of the dash, under a little pop-off cover, very easy to access. So I went back to researching the engagement motor a little more.
I actually came across a chevy 4x4 forum where this exact scenario was being discussed. One guy said he had subscribed to an online forum for 1 year, only to have the first suggestion be to check another fuse under the hood in the fuse box there. It's called the ATC fuse (Automatic Transfer Case). It is identified as to which fuse it is on the diagram in the fuse box cover, but there is no wheres where it's explained what it is. Evidently when this happens, that's the fuse that blows. He said he replaced that fuse and the truck went back to normal operation.
I opened that cover, found it on the diagram and pulled it out and sure enough, it was blown. It's a 20 amp white mini fuse. I replaced it and my 4x4 went right back to normal operation too.
It ended up being a God sent blessing, because I needed the truck a few days later to drive to Bismarck because I managed to come down with Covid-19 and had to admit myself into the hospital for treatment and it got me all the way there.
So, if anyone has this incident happen, check the little fuse marked ATC under the hood in the fuse box there. If it's blown, that's your culprit.
Love the Tahoe videos.
More Tahoe please!!
I heard that Lsxmatt is getting a 4 cylinder project car. My bet it Chevy cobalt ss or Saturn ion redline. ( hint hint. They are boosted).
Better than some other comment of getting a Cruze... lol.
I was just not willing to pay for the conversion kit for the wiring luckily the ones I bought of the eBay came with like the plugs with like 8 inches of wire still so I had some relays and bought some ecu pins and did it myself and if I wanted to clean it up a little I can put some loom on it but it's fine for me I would suggest getting relays sockets that you pin yourself because the ones with short wires kinda suck and don't look as good
I’d recommend ordering performance parts here in RGV in Texas everything chevy suv or truck based is cheap here
I got the e fan installed this summer huge difference with the ac at red lights 😂 no more hot ac at the red light 🚨
Thats my biggest complaint and why I want to do the conversion!
Perfect beater car , Mitsubishi Eclipse , spyder convertible 2001 vintage. Common Matt Fast and Furious little screamer to compete with the American Muscle hahaha
The camaro decor light in the back it’s pretty nice. Where did you get it ?
Amazon!
Good ol cat dookie box will do to get the antifreeze
Get a Fiero for your beater ! DO IT ! Lol
Really like my Tahoe but not the 12mpg as it is currently consuming. 5.3 3.73s
I want a Tahoe or Avalanche but I can barely afford gas for my Trailblazer lol
When I do coolant jobs I use a old wet dry vacuum to deal with coolant
How about a hint on the beater, I encourage more projects.
My water pump just started squeaking and it has 280k and original water pump. The 6.0 is damn near bulletproof in my opinion, i have only had a few transmissions.
That Gates pump will last forever but it will be a lot easier to replace with your efans installed now!
Anyone thats in a jam with the clutch fan take the water pump with the fan connected lock a pump wrench on the edge of the pulley give a quick hit with a adjustable
So far, my 08 GMC has the OEM pump on it at 230. Not sure how much longer I get, but heres to hoping many more!
Based on my experience GMC was the brand I should have bought instead of the Chevy, they seemed to have gotten the higher quality parts.
I know they are the same company but they source their parts differently. Specifically their Heads for this generation.
My 03 has 350k miles on it I believe everything is factory besides the trans its about how you take care of stuff and Spending the extra on higher quality fluids
@@Wesleystewart78 I saw a guy that had 450K on a 14 on a FB page! Wow. He said "maintenance is key"
As long as you keep up with regular coolant changes every 5 years with dexcool it will prolonged the life of the water pump greatly because the coolant have additives that lubricate the water pump seals, eventually the lubricating additives wear out after years of use and if the coolant is never changed it will destroy your water pump seals then it starts leaking.
Where did you get the funnel filler tool works great w/the fill cap?
You can get tye Lyle brand from amazon for about $40ish damn near the same thing that he has only the funnel is clear
Love the videos though
