    • @flashraylaser157
      @flashraylaser157 Před měsícem +10

      @@Fiddlishkaba I genuinely don't understand regularly breaking strings, at least in shred. I've played for 25 years, averaging about 6 hours per day, usually playing anywhere between 2 and 10 hours, heavier practice in the beginning, like most people.
      I've probably broken about 7 strings in my whole life, most in the first few years. I'm quite advanced at this point and most people seem to think someone who plays as much as me must break that many per year at least, not in their whole life total.
      The fact is that in shred if you don't get the pick caught between strings weirdly at a really high speed and botch a string change super badly, and don't utterly pierce the strings for sweeps, allowing just a tiny bit of push back from the string while still letting the pick call the shots, high Es easily last half a decade of shred picking.
      Bernth would have been going 5 years if he hadn't forced it and I'm sure he knows that. The fact is that in shred we use less energy to play 1,000 notes than a kid does playing a single Green Day chorus once. That's how shred works, economy of motion. You hear so much but little is happening to the strings at all in terms of energy.
      It's bending the ever living crap out of strings that actually breaks them over time, especially if they get caught on something sharp. As far as picking goes, strings are rarely going to break with proper technique, outside of really percussive full chords in which the light strings are forced to take force meant for thicker strings.
      If I were to break a string on stage it would be shocking instead of normal, like suddenly throwing up on stage, because like throwing up, breaking strings isn't simply a part of playing for me. It's a rare occurrence and would be highly unlikely to just happen to happen when I'm being watched.

    I've been playing guitar for 18 years, use daddario 8s, have broken a string probably 10 times in my life. and for some reason it's the B string that usually gives way, not the E. additionally, I will go on a limb and say that a vast majority of string breakage happens during bending or tuning, not picking.
