Watch out for the full video coming out on Mattias' channel where Rob Scallon, Ichika Nito and I all try to figure out how to play this thing...

Will send this to everyone who told us it was completely unplayable! Thanks for coming over Charles!
Holy shit this was a great idea!
That doesn't work. Charles is fully capable of playing the unplayable.
So glad this is the person you sent it to. IMO, one of the most skilled musicians out there.
I don't think he sent it to him. @@lamegame420 I think he went to visit
I was waiting for this video since I watched the construction video😂
Sick! Can I have it next?
Yes!!! That would be awesome!!
oh hell yes!
Here's hoping
Coooool 😮
spinning guitar metal when
1:49 jesus christ that string would make Korn start sweating bullets 🤣
Yeah man I think that the fattest string I ever seen
That’s just a rope at that point😂
And the demons
That’s a damn spring
String? Rope? That's a damn cable 🤣
That one missed note told me this whole video was real and you are legitimately incredible
What note did he miss?
@@gageshippy2256 the bad one
Didn't hear it??
Love seeing some folks whooshed in the wild, hah
@@extremelynormalperson how do you hear the lack of sound?
No one believed this thing could have any musical use when Matthias Krantz built it.
And here comes Charles, not only using it flawlessly, but coming up with actual musical ideas that are impossible anywhere else.
The idea of the spinning upwards melody is freaking genius
EXACTLY! I am so glad I could witness the madness behind the scenes on the engineering server. I would say I contributed but honestly the guys working on modeling and electronics and solving the mechanical problems with spinning are the ones who deserve the recognition.
Well said, came to comment the same and now see there is no need. That thing would not be a real musical instrument to anyone other than Charles.
They knew they could build it
They never stopped to ask if they should.
Because obviously yes 😃
To be fair, it's likely that not even Matthias knew if it would have been an usable instrument. He mostly does things for the lulz, only this time the concept was practical/sensible enough to become a playable instrument in capable hands.
Apparently it requires an extraordinary talent such as Charles.
As soon as I saw this monster over at Mattias' channel I thought: if there is someone who can tame it, it has to be Charles!
💯
Yeah, same here!! When I saw on Charles' story him trying it out. I was super excited and have been waiting for this video for so long!
I had the same thought watching the creation video, amazing the he sent it and made it happen!
Ditto!
I had the exact same thought!
i cant believe you actually figured out how to play this thing, designing its shape without knowing its full function is such a unique design process
0:45
I have watched this part about 17 times now, it’s still my absolute favourite
Wonderful mini gun
Multi-purpose 🙌🏻
It costs 400 thousand dollars to fire this weapon for 12 seconds.
**Heavy breathing**
@@CharlesBerthoud Sky is the limit when it falls in the hands of those with endless imagination.
LMAO
How about musical mini gun.
The most impressive part abt this whole thing to me is the fact that he wrote an actual good song on this thing
jupp, thats skill :)
LMAO
The problem was the auto spin. It has to be left up to the artist 😊❤
It’s not that good
@@EtsySpellcaster-fy3slIt's a demonstration. He's proving you can use this instrument at all.
0:54 I ASCENDED!!!!!! THAT WAS SO MAJESTIC
Stunning how well this came out with something still basically a prototype
Mattias’s mad scientist engineering +
Charles’s god-mode bass skills =
best musical colab on CZcams
Ichika Nito, Rob Scallon, Charles Berthoud and Mattias Krantz has got to be one of the most epic collabs of all time. I cannot wait to see it.
I love them all and I don't want to say this but it clearly who is the best here because of Charles manage to film video on spot and don't need to bring this guitar/bass to his home or studio or need more time to do good quality of video.
@@Satirawongwan Except that's wrong. They all gathered up at one spot and spent three days together. Charles just happened to be the first one to push out his video. Mattias will be having a full video of trip, so no wonder if he'll take a while to get that edited and produced, unsure about Rob and Ichika. Wouldn't be surprised if they waited for Mattias to be done with his video and release on one go. Or maybe a staggered release schedule to hype the instrument more.
The universe would collapse in on itself from the sheer awesomeness
Add El Estepario for good measure.
If you need people to figure out how to play some experimental guitar these are definitely your guys.
This is 10x more impressive having seen Rob's video
The entire world just got a million times better from this one video
When this popped up I said, "Fuuuuuuuck Charles got a hold of this thing?! Here we go."
oh is that what you said? 🙄
@@lazylion420 party pooper ._.
8. The heavy part on the thicc string... legitimately, the most authentically heavy thing I've ever heard Charles play.
Yes. Authentically. Relatively heavy in weight.
I wana know where he got that string from
I think it is from grand piano
The (uber-generic) drums kind of ruined for me, but the part he's playing is cool.
@@polpottopgGot it from the cables on the Brooklyn Bridge.
I'm just impressed that it can play drums and guitar simultaneously
Just when you thought this dude couldn't blow your mind anymore, he proves you wrong.
Being a great bassist is one thing. Being an excellent musician is another thing. But being both a ridiculously technically proficient bassist and having phenomenal musicality that balances all the different sounds this instrument is capable of making is a whole another level, even for someone like Charles. Nice work my friend, and I truly mean WORK -- I can only imagine all the sweat it took to earn the ability to play like that.
Nice to see that this instrument is not just a novelty item, but can also produce good music!
Only Charles can do it though haha
In his hands a hairbrush can produce good music, though lol
It seems much more wieldy than any of those gigantic 7 + string ones
That's less impressive coming from a guy who can make a bunch of rocks, some rotten wood, and unstrung bass string sound musical.
Let's say music.... good is different.
Everything about this is incredible! 🤯🤯🤯
Thanx for posting!❤️✌️
I can only imagine the level of professionalism it takes to invent this!! 😮
Also playing it perfectly is another thing to talk about!!!!!
@mattiaskrantz is the mad lad genius behind this beast haha
“Professional” 😂
"professional" its been tested that it can shred!
Cheese i mean
Broooo, Ive been waiting for the Gatling Bass to make a comeback!! And I am 100,00,000% satisfied. 20/10 would cover the hell outta this. In fact.....where is my bass 🤔
GATLING BASS. Okay yeah, that works. I'm calling it that now.
Gatling Bass. Brilliant.
What makes it a Bass over a Guitar, genuinely curious
@@kelmirosue3251 My best guess is mainly the thickness of the strings, possibly the tautness. Lower frequency vibrations mean different notes.
0:33 is wonderful
AWESOME! Great job on the build! Very inspiring!
This is perfect. Straight to the main thing.I Love your content
Having watched this get made, I never thought it would get used in an actual musical setting.
I figured Charles would probably master it. 😂
thats exactly the kind of video that I love to see : no long talk or obvious explanation, just talent !
the kind of stuff from early intenrt days, no bullshit.
@@SergeyPRKL Before Google bought CZcams and started messing with the monetization.
It's so fun to see where you've taken this project.
When I saw Mattias's first video I thought to myself, "I hope Charles Berthoud can get his hands on this thing." Looks like the music gods were listening.
1:08 ohhh that fretless lick is gorgeous. nice work as always!
I've been watching the evolution of this build from Mattias and all I could think was, *"GET CHARLES ON THIS!"* So pumped to see it. And that metal breakdown was sick! 🤘🤘🤘
Those harmonics sound celestial and then into that heavy part was beautiful
Wow, I love it! Your stringed instrument is incredible! Great job!
I want to see some more behind the scenes with Charles playing this thing. Would be super interesting to see his approach while learning it and figuring out compositions etc
youll never guess the video mattias is gonna drop soon
That lowest string is insane! And Mattias’ guitar is even more insane lol, and It has planted itself in some of the most skilled hands ever!
Vastly entertaining stuff again!! 💪🏻
Very cool instrument and well played. I especially like the spinning harmonics.
The technique & talent to play this beast that flawlessly is incredible. Always pushing the boundaries & smashing through them.
This guy was already arguably one of the greatest living bassist and he just keeps pushing the boundaries of what is compositionally possible on the instrument.
What the build vid a while ago, then forgot about it till now. What an amazing talent. To invent, build & then master that thing. No words, just...🤯
Wooooooow insane idea!!! Great play in these fantastic bass guitar
This is why we love @CharlesBerthoud - he takes the most off-the-wall instrument and makes amazing music from it.
A musical instrument that can can be used to make music?! I am shocked!! 😂😂😂
I commented on that guy's video when he made that guitar / bass, and I said if you put that in the hands of someone that's capable, the possibilities would be endless. People in the comments crapped on me and laughed at me and then look where it's at now!
For the algorithm. ✊
👏🏻🥇
✊
love it when the guitar comes with a bridge cable just incase a kaiju destroys the golden gate bridge and you need to help fix it
Incredible skills!! And the instrument is beautiful ❤️
You brought this instrument to new heights!
Literally commented on the initial release that he should get it in your hands! Amazing and well done!!
This was SO amazing, definitively you are one of the best player that can use every feature of this insane creation 😮
The parts you played from 3-6 are worthy of being a song themselves, so freaking good!
Even the portal to another dimension sounded impressive. Charles you're so good at this! So awed by your talents
Unbelievable. Most diverse bass player alive
I thought it would be Davie first to try 360 bass, but now it's you. That's incredible
davie could no way handle this like CB. CB is on a totally different level musically....his theory knowledge is UNREAL
@@clivity8718
Eh, I agree Charles is better than Davie, but I'd wager Davie could play this thing. As could most journeymen bass players if they actually got used to the mechanics of it.
Davie is a meme channel now, Charles is all about the bass.
Davie doesn't have the talent for such an instrument.
@@hyperboreandesolation lol
Wow, great playing. The shining harmonic was very inventive!
Just when you think you have seen it all! Wow. Great playing and demo Charles.
I remember this bass
THIS is the MOST amazing thing I've seen (and heard) all year!
Dude you are hella talented 🖤
Es una j***** bomba!! Sounds amazing dude!! and the Bass its insane!!
YES! So glad you played this. I love both the channels!
Finally! finally finally finally finally we get to hear it musically and you played it so well! Oh man I've been waiting so long for this THANK YOU!!!
0:55 this whole section is ASCENDANT! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
This has to be the most anticipated video from Mathias's community channel!
I have been watching Mattias for years. And seeing the evolution of this instrument ... And watching Charles play it! Amazing!! 😍
This is next level, you figured out how to play it !
Really cool instrument and wow, super chops, Bud!
I watched the vids of Matthias making this, and my first thought was how cool it would be for you to play it.
Glad we get to see it.
I was invested in seeing this being made by matias then seeing it finally played by charles has made the journey come full circle, yet just start at the same time. Amazing
Man, I've watched some weird build videos, and I saw the video on this guitar. I wish I could play a 6-string, but seeing you jam on this behemoth is amazing. Kudos.
Loved the opening a portal part sounded amazing.
When I first saw this thing. I immidiately pictures Charles getting his hands on it.
Here we are today. And damn, what a masterpiece
YESS THIS IS THE COLLAB WE ALL NEEDED
WOW!! AMAZING SOUNDS!
I want a whole album of this style of music 🤯
love the creativity!! awesome compositions
I love Matthias’ channel. I can’t believe you made such a banger from this instrument
Bro is too cleann 🔥🔥
I love this! This foo started going off in the beginning 😈
Frickin awesome dude!!!
I too had doubts when Mattias was making this. It works, and sounds amazing. Well done to both of you.
this is great I remember seeing the bass get made, that guitar suits you so well! 11/10
OMG that Metal breakdown was awesome!
NICE!
For a bit more visual badassery, I would make up an end-cap to fit over the part where the strings are secured. Make it look like the 6 barrels of a minigun.
But even something like a pointed dome (like a rocket nosecone) would clean up the looks of that end of it.
Wow that thing looks like a weapon! And you are super bass warrior, amazing! 🤩
So cool to see this in the hands of a pro, and huge props to mattias!
I saw the guy make this a few months ago, so happy to see it being played and very well indeed!
I knew Darth Vader played the bass. He's probably going to want that back.
Of all people to play this instrument, it couldn't have gone to anyone better.
Looks amazing!
Crazy good 👍
Got chills 🎉🎉🎉
I just watched the “making of” that thing. So cool to see Charles with it. One of a kind, baby!
0:55 на самом деле когда я услышал этот отрывок,то у меня пошли мурашки по коже.Это звучит восхитительно,при этом используется минимум звуков.Мне кажется из этого можно и нужно сделать отдельную песню
Killer job dude! Rad guitar
👏🏻 This was amazing! This thing is exciting and I'm not even playing guitar or bass!
Cuts and post processing aside - you have validated the awesome potential of this beast!
I think this classifies as one of the most amazing displays of skill I’ve ever seen. Dude is straight riffing a cylindrical spinning bass for god’s sake! EPIC!
I have 4 days without seeing something interesting, and you broke the streak, amazing !❤️
You are truly brilliant.
I watched him build that and thought to myself if anyone could play that it would have to be Charles. Good job sounded amazing.👍
Wow, that was impressive, you're essentially a Noise Marine now - thanks Charles !
