Great lesson. Could you do a lesson on Orleans, Dance with me? There aren't any good lessons for it on youtube. It's a great song. Much appreciated thanks.
Justin, how long did it take you to learn that first full riff at the beginning of the song? It would be really useful for me to know that since it is proving a nightmare for me and I can see it taking me weeks if not months to get it right and up to speed. Thanks.
There seems to be a mistake in the tab in section 4, when going to the E. It sounds and looks as though strings 1 through 4 should be played, not just 2 through 4. But still a great lesson and much appreciated.
Justin! An interesting piece of trivia for you(or not as the case may be). A relative of mine lives in the cottage in Bath, once owned by Peter Gabriel where he wrote this song. The cottage looks towards Salisbury Hill.
Did they ever see an eagle fly into the night
That is incredibly cool!
That's the wrong hill though.
@@peterwilkins7013 Solsbury Hill 👍
WOW really cool...........
Get in there Justin.
What a Tune man.
SON... he Said...
"GRAB YOUR THINGS,
I'VE COME TO TAKE YOU HOME" 👍
This is the best tutorial for this song. I am learning, doing a bit every day. It is so satisfying to be able to play just the first part of this song even at 50% speed. Thanks for this!
Yes, I think Justin is brilliant. - streets ahead of my stuff; he's a real inspiration.
LOVE the song and it's always been one of my favorites by Peter. I can see this is beyond my skill set at the moment, but I have hope for the future.
Epic. Your "Here Comes The Sun" lesson gave me the courage to try harder ones like this. Thanks for everything!
Awesome! :)
How have you got on with this one? I’ve been planning on learning it for ages Justin makes it look so easy man, effortless
@@rossiniogates It's harder! I don't think my small hands are as well suited to this one!
Agreed man I tried learning this last night and my massive hands aren’t suited either haha good luck brother I’ll see you there when we can both do it hahah finger style is by far my weakest skill on guitar lol 😂
This is above my skill level, but I still love to watch you play, you make it look easy.
Thanks for sharing all the lessons Justin.
Take care of yourself and your family.
From Charlie in the States.
Happy trails, Charlie! Cheers
A wise man once said whether you think you can or think you can't, your right. Good luck
@@raymonddomagalla3357 I know my limit, and I've got more things to learn and get down before I'm ready to take on this song. I do know that I will get there one day, just not today.
Take care of yourself and your family and stay safe.
OK- I have been hoping for/ waiting for Justin to do a full lesson on this song for years.
It is WAY above my skill set, but a song I MUST learn to play. This may take me a year to get right, but I am overjoyed that I now have the RIGHT person walking me through this lesson. THANK YOU JUSTIN!
Have fun mate! Passion and determination can overcome those obstacles. I made most of my own progress on songs I really, really wanted to learn, no matter how hard they seemed at first glimpse.
WOW! GREAT tutorial on a complexly beautiful song. Many Thanks!!
Justin , THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS AMAZING TUTORIAL !!!!! I've wanted to be capable of playing this song on my 12-string guitar for years. What sets you apart from all other tutorial song videos is your patience to break the song down note for note while playing the notes AND showing the Tab in the little window at the same time. GREAT , GREAT TEACHING !!!!
Justin, you should add the appearance of Ziggy at the 9:14 mark to your chapter headings. I love the fact that you kept his appearance in your great video lesson. I’ve loved this song for decades and am so pleased to start learning how to play it. Thanks for your great work! Keep it up.
OMG you're a legend, Justin! It sounds so good, I'll start practicing it ASAP! I just today arrived home after a semester abroad where I only had a classic guitar, so it's high to time pick up the acoustic one again.
I have been hoping you'd do this one for a long time. Thank you for making this come true!
I found the dog coming in a really nice break from the mind torture that is finger picking what a little dude ❤️also man such a brilliant teacher to take the time to teach us garage guitarists. I’m an hour in Justin and the fact it even slightly resembles the song is amazing to me 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love you Justin, love you love you love you. I am early intermediate and actually piecing through this thanks to your excellent, patient, comfortable, relaxed but efficient tutorial. I plan to sing along to this, eventually!!
Goose bumps! Love this song and can't wait to give it a go
Thank you Justin.......................U DA MAN
I don't mean any disrespect, some people don't like what I'am about to say ................
that's thier problem but " YOU ARE BLESSED"
This is a really beautiful piece. I think it sounds even more beautiful when played at a slower pace. I’m definitely not ready for it yet - I’m still at the Dust in the Wind level! Saved for another day (or maybe another year!)
Such a great lesson. I started learning this amazing song from another musician but your approach has really helped me get it much better. Haven't quite nailed it yet but well on my way and you're right: so satisfying. I really appreciate your ability to break down the sections and slow it down enough to help me get it while still maintaining the underlying feel of the song. Awesome. Thanks!
One of my favourite songs of all time! I’ll try my best to learn it now!
Love the song, playing, and transcription. But you could see how much he loves his dog, and that was the highlight to me.
Amazing lesson thank you!
Was on about a two hour trip home last night and not exactly certain why but this song popped into my head and listened to the live version from PG as well as the recorded version and even some covers of it. Within a few minutes I was right back to listening to Justin give his tutorial. lol! Of course I couldnt even watch the video much less practice it.. but I love listening to how Justin lays it out! My moment of venting here.... I used to be so good at finger picking as a kid when I was taking lessons after lessons after lessons.. 43yo now and have had some good strides getting back into playing here and there! .. at any rate.. great video and once again JG has captured my attention yet again! :)
Oh hell yes. I'm especially excited about this one. Thanks, @JustinGuitar !
Been following you since 2008. This is the type of lesson I love to see. Thanks for sharing and teaching songs at this level, would love to see more challenging instrumentals.
Awesome, thank you!
Have already been learning this for the past two weeks - so little to learn, but deceptively challenging. Have been travis picking for years and it still took a week of slow careful practice to get the intro into muscle memory!
You can do it!
This is great. Thanks Justin 👍
Such a great song and a really patient, high quality lesson. Thanks, Justin.
THIS is a MASTERPIECE!!! Well done interpreting it.
Спасибо за Ваши уроки!!!🤝
Justin, you unravel the mysteries of life/music. Then you said Solsbury Hill's in 7/4 a huge light went on for me. That's what keeps the song rolling. Then you explain the 3 - 4 and 4 - 3 counting groups which is the secret sauce. My other revelation came from Grateful Dead's Estimated Prophet, in 7/4, thanks to Michael Palmisano. Now I have another song to practice the 7/4 count. Thank you.
Incredible lesson. So detailed. Appreciate your time on this! Off to a surprisingly good start on first couple phrases. So satisfying to get a little thing going. LOT'S of work ahead. But Thanks!
Thank you Justin, your dedication to teaching guitar is inspirational. I keep coming back to you website time and again. I'm achieving things I never thought possible, I'm a big fan!
Justin, we are truly lucky to have you putting up such great content thank you.
wonderful song ... congratulations on your musical taste and thank you so much for the tutorial justin
Thanks for keeping Ziggy in the video, what a treat! Haha
You are the best on this exercise !
This is proper teaching. Man this is so good - Justin, you're a bloody legend mate.
I love coming across these videos and finding out that I've been playing a song wrong for 20 years! You are a very good teacher Justin, and your videos take a lot of effort to produce. Nicely done, and thank you.

Fantastic tutorial on this song! Thanks so much for the nice breakdown.
Wow, the opening run-through of the song is spot on. Appreciate the insights.
This is amazing thank you love this song.
Thanks Justin! Very good instructions. Appreciate it!
Justin, you played that beautifully! Really nice job.
Beautifully played wow!
Thank you, Justin!!!
Now that is an incredible opening that makes the song come alive!🎸 You are very talented Justin, as ye ol' minstrels of yore. Good on you boyo!!👍🤘
That's brilliant Justin thank you for introducing me to a song I knew fur years but never thought about playing
Not sure I'll give it a try yet.. still working on Greensleeves with my limited time and skill, but I enjoyed the lesson and your playing. Such a calming song this one is!
Justin you're the man I absolutely love this song
Love Ziggy. I want more Ziggy! Love the song too. I've started learning the first bit ever so slowly! 😁😁
Amazing sounding guitar. Looks fabulous as well. 👍
I hav been following your channel for about 3 years. Ive learned a huge amount about picking. Thank you Justin. From SoCal 🎸🎸🎸
You're awesome, thank you🎉
Amazing lesson thank you 👏
such a satisfying song to play. definately a top 5 song for me. thanks for the tutorial
Love the FS. I’ll definitely being giving this one a shot
I have been waiting a long time for a correct way to play this tune. Excellent Tutorial on the song and on Travis picking
Thanks Justin! You have such good taste!
Loved it.
An great and perfect tutorial!!! Thank you very much!!!
One of my favortie songs! Thank you so much for posting this. I've watched tons of tutorials on Solisbury Hill, but you break it down really nice here! I'm having a tough time with hitting the open high e string (open 6th string) in the intro. I've been playing the 5th string 5th fret with my pinky instead and it seems to work. Yeah, the open 6th string would ring our a little nicer, but I have to practice that knuckle lift a little more. Keep posting! I love your videos!
Beautiful
Your lessons only get better and better!
AWESOME Justin..... Thank You! Ziggy was fine.
Gorgeous guitar. Thanks for the lesson.
One of my all time fav songs period. I’ve wanted to learn this for years, thank you again for the amazing instruction! 👏👏
You're very welcome! Cheers :)
Really nice, thanks!
Really brilliant the way you've broken this down . Excellent work. It's definitely going to take some work ti practice . Thank you Justin:-) :-) :-)
Brilliant!
Thank you so much for this 🙂
Love it. AWESOME. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
we love you justin i grew up with your lessons
Again your doing a great job of showing how to play The song...thank you
Chuffed, love this song !
it's been decades since I tried that song. Well done.
Justin, after adding the tabs-you are now you having the best tutorials on youtube! Great lesson..!
Thanks Justin, this is right in the sweet spot for me of being tricky, but not too difficult to learn. Being able to sing it too would be a party trick! Time to get practicing….
Fantastic!
Thanks so much for that Justin. Ive always wanted to learn this one, I've been playing for years but I think it will take some practice, it doesn't come easy to me. If I ever want to know how to play anything, I always check to see if you covered it first. Thanks mate, excellent lesson.
Just had hand surgery and this is my goal. Thanks for breaking this down. Can’t wait to get stuck into this!
Justin, you are amazing & inspiring, thanks!
I appreciate that!
Good Justin!! 😊
Thank you
Goodness me, I wasn’t just thinking about learning this song. Thanks for reading my mind, Justin! 👍🏻
A really great tutorial, thanks a lot !!! I like your videos !!!
Robert Fripp’s version of Here Comes the Flood with PG on vocals would be another great one (but would have to be transcribed from piano). Thank you for all your videos
Great job. Really enjoyed the video and am looking forward to putting it all together.
Brilliant - Steve Hunter is such an under-rated guitarist.
Sweet sound
Nice sounding. Lovely
brilliant lesson and playing !!
You are excellent Thanks a lot.
Perfect 😢
Great tutorial! Best I have seen so far on this fantastic song. Some more Gabriel songs would be great, e.g. Here comes the flood or Games without frontiers.
Thanks Justin! Can´t wait to try it on a 12 string!
Super great man
Fantastic lesson Justin. I started learning to play guitar eleven years ago when I was 54 years of age and you were one of the first CZcams guitar tutors I followed. Yet another great lesson and today I’ve finally learned all the sections and will continue to play until, as you say, I cannot get it wrong. It might take some time but I’ll stick with it. Thanks again Jim in Scotland 🏴
