    To answer your question on cost, at Tesco (the UK's largest supermarket chain) a can of 8 Ye Olde Oak hot dogs is £0.99 or about $1.25 - That said, while the idea is you could take them camping to save on cooler space, given that most of the UK isn't anywhere near as remote as parts of the US, what you'd normally find we'd do is just buy a pack of fresh sausages from either a local store, or butchers when you get to where you're going - As even the most basic pack of Cumberland's or Lincolnshire Sausages are going to be far better.

    I saw these in a video once and always wondered what they were like, so thank you. Fun facts: British breakfast sausage tastes nothing like American sausage, but it has a lot of flavor and is 7.5/10. Their bacon is basaically just ham, though.

    • @markiangooley
      @markiangooley Před 8 měsíci +11

      American style bacon is called streaky bacon in Britain. The usual British bacon isn’t made from pork belly the way American or streaky bacon is, but from back cuts that are less fatty or sometimes quite lean.
      Some British sausage contains bread, or what’s called rusk. In fact, every sausage I’ve eaten on my occasions trips to England tasted as if it contained bread. At least that’s way less common here in the USA.

    I do hope you revisit this video, and get some German pork hotdogs in a jar. Few know of the Great Chicago Sausage War. At the height of Upton Sinclair's novel 'The Jungle' there was so much distrust of sausages in Chicagoland, and the various sausage making houses went to war over it. You ended up with German, Italian, Polish, Jewish and American sausage makers becoming outright monsters..... and, the funny thing was, all of them made great sausages using select cuts of meat. No lips, no bungs, nothing dropped on a floor or nibbled by a rat. Sinclair had just repeated a rumor he heard and put it in his book, and it impacted sausage sales for years.

    Ketchup don't go WITH hotdogs or bologna because they are NOT made with tomatoes however THEY are made with mustard

    Spicy ketchup on a hot dog is pretty good combined with sweet & spicy relish, mustard and onions it’s even better:

    Forget canned hot dogs, you need to try canned bacon. Celebrity used to sell it and I believe it was imported from Hungary. The bacon was uncooked and had to BE cooked to eat and my gosh was it good. Way better than regular bacon out of a grocery store package. Kmart of long ago was the only place I saw canned bacon. It was so so good. Why would anyone want such a thing? It didn't need to be refrigerated, so great for camping or homeless camps cooking over old phone books, or when you have a home and a way to cook but no fridge.

    I'm from the UK and Ye Olde Oak Hotdogs are the worst Hotdogs i've ever eaten and I'm glad you (an American) can confirm they are indeed shit.

    I've eaten these ye Olde Oakes hotdogs since I was a kid. I've always enjoyed them. If you can get hold of the ye Olde Oake bacon grill I highly recommend it. And for another hot dog experience try the Wilkinger hot dogs in brine. They're great too
