    Nice video. Easy to understand.
    I see that now they have Uber app and a ride can be taken for around 100 EGP, which is probably the fastest, most convenient way for a non-solo traveller.
    I'll be heading to Cairo next week for a first time visit. Looking forward to it.

    • @EgyptAdventuresTravel
      @EgyptAdventuresTravel  Před rokem

      Thanks Kevin!
      Usually I pay between EGP 150-175 for an Uber from CAI to the city center.
      However, be wary, because it can be very difficult to figure out where your Uber driver is in the mess of the airport pickup area, most Uber drivers do not speak English, and often they will try shenanigans like cancelling the ride and asking you to pay cash. Listen to this testimonial from someone who commented on my blog recently:
      "I would like to share an experience that an Uber driver at Cairo airport. It was happen on Mar 28. We flew from Luxor back to Cairo. The flight was late. We arrived Cairo airport around 2am in early morning. When we walked out the airport, there were few taxi drivers in outside and ask me if we need a ride. I asked one of them how much to downtown. He told me 25 euros. It’s far more than what I expected. I told him I will call an Uber. I open Uber app and order an Uber. It is not that difficult to call a Uber from airport. The app will show you pick up point and what you need to do is walking to pickup point to meet the driver.
      Few minutes later, the Uber came. The driver’s English was not very good. He asked me if I can pay cash. I realized that I ordered by credit card. I told him I can pay cash but I don’t know how to change the payment to cash. I just started using Uber in Cairo. I was not very familiar with the app. He took my phone and did something and then help with our luggage and let us get in the car. He invited me to sit in front seat. I was thinking the reason he asked me to sit in front seat was because small rear seat space, but later I figured he was going to haggle with me the price.
      After few minutes driving, he asked me “dollar” which his broken English. I realize he was ask if I can pay US dollars, and he was starting trying to scam me. I told him I don’t have US dollars. He spoke to me, I was not really he was talking English or Arabic. I thought he maybe asking me for euros or other currency. I had US dollars in my bag, I just don’t want to show him in this situation. I told him I only have Egyptian pounds.
      He saw I cannot pay him US dollars, then he typed 500 in him phone and show me. The quote from Uber app was only around 150LE. I opened the app and what to show him. I just realized he did not change cash payment. He canceled the Uber in my phone. I told him 500 is way more than the Uber quote, tell me the reason why you will charge me 500? He asked me how much I can pay. I told him I would not pay anything more than 200. He typed 400 on his phone and show me. I said no.
      At this point, I was not sure what he could do to us if we refuse to pay higher rate. I asked my wife to google emergency number, just in case we need help.
      He was trying to haggle with me all way to the hotel, I refused anything higher than 200. After arriving the hotel. We get off the car and take out our luggage. I gave him 200 bill, he was trying to ask me more. I told him Uber quote is 150, I gave you 50 as tips is more than enough. I will not give you anything more. He did not insist and drive away.
      Most of the Uber drivers are good in Cairo except some individuals. I think if you got similar situation, just stand on your ground, he cannot do anything to you."

    I arrived in Cairo airport from Luxor on 10th Oct 2023 and literally watched this video at the airport before getting on the shuttle bus.
    I took a bus to El Demerdash then changed to a metro to get to my hostel in Downtown Cairo. Paid EGP 13 in total compared to what would've been over EGP 200 by Uber.
    Thanks a lot!

  • @mikecustance1727

    This was really useful. More difficult we found is going from Ramsis station to the airport. We ended up getting an 11 from across the road from the station by the mosque. Loads of buses so getting the right one you have to know your numbers! Told that this does not go all the way, so got off near the airport then fellow passenger advised which bus goes to the airport. Get off by the bus terminal, NOT in it and wait at the same place for the shuttle bus to get to your terminal. A bit of an adventure, not to be tried if time is tight (the bus hit a care which delayted us a bit). Maybe the metro extension will open soon....

They usually gather around transport depots for tourists, but I don't see anyone trying to corral you into their cab :) Ramses Station taxi drivers were the most aggressive. @EgyptAdventuresTravel  Před 3 lety +1

      That’s true! A lot of times though foreigners don’t have internet when they first arrive to Egypt so they can’t use a rideshare service, and it can often be very confusing to figure out exactly WHERE the driver should meet the person to pick them up if it is the traveler’s first time to Cairo airport. Sometimes the drivers don’t speak any English as well, which makes it difficult. I recommend all of the different methods: bus, Uber, taxi, private driver, just depending on what someone’s situation is and what they’re comfortable with.

      You’re allowed to take luggage, but there isn’t a luggage rack. I wouldn’t recommend taking more than one suitcase and one backpack per person.

      For currency exchange I either recommend downtown Cairo or Tahrir Street in Dokki, or pulling money out of an ATM using your overseas bank card. Rates are the same, so no need to worry about shopping around for a specific rate.

    • @EgyptAdventuresTravel
      @EgyptAdventuresTravel  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes the taxi drivers always charge a higher rate than Uber rides, but taxi rides are often more convenient because the driver is right there, and you don’t need to deal with the annoyance of trying to find your Uber driver in the airport. And Uber drivers at the airport often won’t take someone unless they pay cash, and they usually try to make you negotiate a new fare. So often I just pay the higher amount for the taxi.
