I have had requests from numerous travelers and clients about the possibility of taking Uber from Cairo International Airport instead of a taxi, private transfer, or the public bus, and so I tried it myself! Spoiler alert, it didn't go well, but watch this video to see where I went wrong, and to see how you can take Uber successfully from the airport to wherever you need to go.
Want to try the bus instead? Check out this video: • How to take a public b...

Update October 20th, 2022, the last comment helped me. When you arrived from an international flight you are at terminal 2, we have to go to terminal 3 there are two ways to go there, either you go around from outside de airport and go downstairs (or take the elevator) or you go straight to the other building and take the electric stairs to go down. We have to wait next to the B5 parking lot sign. I texted the driver: "I'm at terminal 3 downstairs, next to the sign B5 parking lot, and I'm wearing a black t-shirt, 1.80cm tall" and It worked
Thank you Ronaldo! I will be trying to do another video showing the "right" way to do an Uber the next time I am in Egypt. Hopefully I can get it right this time! ;)
thank you so much for all the information. You really get straight to the point in all your videos
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
Pretty helpful dude, thanks

You’re welcome!
Thank you!
My pleasure! Have a great trip.
that happened to us as well! the good thing is that the Uber driver was very patient, and I found him on the parking lot at the end
I’m glad you had a positive experience in the end ❤️. I’m going to try getting the Uber from Terminal 3 next time like my driver suggested.
Luckily, a family helped us to communicate with the uber driver and the fountain you showed we actually got picked up from there. A Big Thank you for that family!!!!
Egyptians are so helpful! Glad they helped you out.
That just happened to me right now. Your video helped me, but in the end, after almost 1 hour trying, I changed the spot to “terminal 3 parking lot ”. It’s easier because there is, literally, a B-5 sign
Thanks for the tip! Sorry you went through that hassle.
This is what I need for next week! Thank you
Thank you for your informtive videos about Cairo, Egypt. In concern to Uber taxi do I need to download the Uber app or just use the net?.
You're welcome! You need to download the Uber app and also have internet access to use the app. Best of luck and safe travels :)
At any airport you should pre arrange transportation especially if you don't speak the language and there is always too much going on in major cites.
Yes, this video shows that even though I speak fluent Egyptian Arabic, it can be tricky to link up with Uber at the airport.
However, I’ve noticed getting Uber has gotten much easier in the past year. I plan on making an update video later to show how it’s changed.
Thanks for the Helpful Info. If arriving from Terminal 2, Whats the best way to get to Terminal 3 Arrivals, So I can access the B5 Parking Area ?
Walking, unfortunately. Exit Terminal 2, and head to the B5 Parking Area on foot. I usually use a combination of GPS and the signage at the airport to help me find my way. You can ask someone for help, but unfortunately most of the people “helping” others at the airport are trying to get them to pay for an overpriced taxi. But there are also tons of friendly, helpful Egyptians out there who will try their best to assist you in finding the right way.
If you have lots of luggage, you’ll unfortunately want to get a taxi.
Best of luck!
thank you I am travelling to Egypt for 1 week and I am worried about reaching my hotel
Best of luck! You can get either a normal taxi or Uber from the airport.
Most all US phone carriers have a daily international plan that works in most (260+) counties around the world. ATT it’s only $10 per day and matches your US plan. I have unlimited phone, text & data and it works seamlessly when arriving new counties. Just turn on your phone upon arrival, and within about 1-2 minutes or less you are good to go. Sign-up before you leave the US, and you are only charged for only the days you use it internationally. No need to turn the plan on or off.
I’ve used that option through AT&T as well, I just prefer a local SIM card because it’s much cheaper and also allows me to have an Egyptian phone number. But doing something like you mentioned is a good option, too!
With the sim card, can you use any type of phone/the phone I have with the Sim card or do you get a whole new phone?
Great question, Brooklyn! You can use any smart phone as long as the phone is unlocked. If you have any other questions, feel free to shoot me an email!
Is everything ready to go for your trip, like your tour guide, driver, restaurants, hotels, nightlife activities, and itinerary?
Do you not have data roaming on usa SIM cards ?, in the uk you can use the car the same as in the uk
I do, but at least with my plan at the time, it would’ve cost me $10 USD just to turn on data roaming. That’s the cost of just getting a taxi at the airport (after bargaining hard), so it wasn’t worth it to me.
Now I switched to GoogleFi so I have internet for free in tons of places, Egypt included! So now it’s way easier for me to get Uber from the airport, although I still prefer just getting a normal taxi, since it’s often difficult to actually find an Uber driver (or for them to find you) at the airport.
Looks like too much trouble with using UBER at the airport. I wonder if it is easier to get UBER at the airport hotel Le Meridien. I will be staying there soon.
It’s gotten a lot easier to take Uber-I plan on doing an update video.
Unfortunately the last time I tried requesting Uber to the Le Meridien hotel, I was routed to one of the parking areas instead, so you may not be able to request Uber to the entrance of the Le Meridien.
What is the mode of payment via Uber? Is true only card via online payment method? No cash basis like egyptian pounds
I always have the option to pay cash (EGP), but some people tell me that they don’t see that as an option in their Uber apps.
Love the spoiler alert.
Haha, thanks! I figure I need to not set folks up for a big surprise ;)
Looking to travel from Cairo to Hurghada. Uber vs Private Car transport?
Uber would not work for such a long distance, so you would need to do a private car. However, considering it is a very long drive, I would opt to take Go Bus (Google them--you can buy tickets online!) or fly.
My hotel wants 25 usd for picking me up. To expensive, gonna order a uber for Terminal 3 at arrival.
Let me know how it goes!
Which site for a private transfer would you recommend ?
I do not use websites for private transfers, but I recommend individual guided/drivers I have used in the past, usually as part of a consultation or when working on a custom itinerary for a client. You can get in touch with me via email to chat more :)
What a frustrating experience. The irony is that ride sharing is suppose to be easy.
Right?! I think it is way easier if travelers chose the pickup location to be Terminal 3, like I mentioned at the end of the video. That’s what I’ll try next time and I’ll update everyone with my experience 👍🏼
Is it cheaper to get a taxi or Uber ?
I travel in a weeks time and I’m confused
In my experience, Uber is cheaper by about $6. I always opt to pay extra and just negotiate for a taxi for around 250 Egyptian Pounds. Best of luck and have a great trip!
Cheers buddy
My Uber score dropped 20 points in cairo despite that I was leaving tips and being polite. The reason being is the drivers hate credit card payments and will try to shake you down for cash, if you don’t pay cash they will almost certainly leave you a 1 star rating. 100% if you use Uber in cairo you will ruin your Uber reputation
Oh shoot, sorry that this happened to you! Thank you for sharing. I’ve started only using cash for Uber in Cairo as a way to help out the drivers, so I haven’t noticed this-I appreciate the heads up.
Why you didn’t take a free airoport shuttle to Tahrir square and from there ride by Uber?
Hi Larisa, do you mean the free shuttle that takes you to the bus station so you can take a bus to Tahrir Square? I show that journey in this video: czcams.com/video/oHAhhgW7qL8/video.html
I wanted to show folks what taking an Uber is like since some people want to use that to get from the airport to their destination 👍🏼
Is there a free shuttle bus to Tahrir Square? AFIK the shuttle bus is an internal route between the terminals and the airport bus station. From there, there are loads of buses going to different destinations in Cairo and other cities in the Delta too.
Yes, I mean the shuttle to the bus station, then to Tahrir and Uber from there is it feasible ?
@@larisadove2272 too complicated
What I wana take taxii?
You can arrange a taxi with one of the agents at the area outside baggage claim. Just remember to bargain, bargain, bargain, and agree to the price beforehand!
Hey bro, you going to meet more and more troubles at Cairo International Airport because Uber is illegal in Egypt and Police officers stop Uber drivers at Airport.
Thanks for the heads up! I will see what happens the next time I come.
I saw you use 3G, does 4G work at all or 5G ?
Yes, just depends on what service provider you have and what the signal is like.
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel So if I go with vodafone and stay in Dahab, could I still get the 4G at least? Surely I will use also the hostels wifi. I do use VPN. I am planning of staying little longer like 6 months.
@@FIN86fi Not sure, sorry!
@@EgyptAdventuresTravel You have a video from Dahab, and you don't remember. So, it was definately not 2G :D otherwise you would remember I assume. Let's hope it's at least 3G there.
@@FIN86fi it should be, then! Feel free to post an update once you have settled into Dahab. It's a true paradise there!
Come on! of course you should type in Terminal 3 instead of 2, isnt that the same in your country? we always do minus form the number of terminal that you arrived in to...
At airports I have used in the past, I always request the Uber from the terminal I arrived to. At Cairo Airport, however, it seems like getting an Uber from Terminal 2 is extremely difficult because drivers do not know how to navigate to that terminal, so getting it from Terminal 3 (like I show in the video) is recommended. I usually prefer the public bus, myself :)
I saw other videos about Uber not being allowed to enter the airport and they can get tickets. 😂😂😂 they canceled the trips because you had police involved 😂😂😂
Probably 😂🤷🏻♂️
I know this because I am planning to go for my brother wedding and I checked some Uber drivers videos and their advices to other drivers. 😁 I am not Egyptian and I am a native Arabic speaker but I am not gonna lie I still have some worries about going there. Any advice
