How welcoming of diversity is the government there?

What a beautiful city in the making! Surely the president of that country did not accumulate a mind boggling amount of debts to build this fancy capital that no one asked for. Surely he would not let the already struggling middle class pay for these debts. Money well spent! Who gives a damn about the poor and the middle class -they can starve and struggle. A fancy new capital is far more important.

When ever a government builds a neww capital outside its capital you know its because they're going to do thing the poeple will not approve of. Calling it the 6th of October is also morbid as it commemorates the YomKippur war. The disctrict is called after a war, a war that started with a successful surprise attack but ended in total lose including losing the sinai desert. They got that desert back in the later peace agreement which could have been a better date to commemorate. Peace, not war.

Hello from Indonesia! We are also building a new capital in the forest, so I understand the controversy surrounding Egypt's new capital. Controversy aside, the new capital looks huge! And since I also like using public transport, I'm happy that visitors can reach the new city by the metro and then by light rail. Hopefully I can go back to Egypt sometimes in the future. Cheers!

Did you happen to notice where the bank is that you can buy a visa at if you did overstay your visa? I always run into this problem because while I live in Egypt, the area responsible for putting my visa in my passwort never gets in a hurry. As a result I am often required to get a temporary visa sticker like tourists get, and if I leave I usually have overstayed this monthlong visa.

Something tells me the ‘new capital’ is just a way for the Egyptian government and rich people to move away from all the poor people they had to commingle with in downtown Cairo. Now they have a nice new place to live in and it’s a desert away from all the rest of citizens. The routes leading to the city can be cut off pretty easily, so no another Arab Spring for you and all that is done on the taxpayers money. Very nice!

Thanks for your informative video. I think there are 3 price brackets, one for Egyptian and 2nd for Arabs and third one for other foreigners. According to Masrawy article on May 1st , the price for a single sleeper cabin from Alexandria to Aswan will cost an Egyptian 1250 EGP and 1500 EGP for Arabs and 130 $ for others. I am assuming that all other routes and tickets will have a similar price fare system

It's so sad to see these brand new cities be planned to be so car-centric and "individualistic" instead of places that foster community and encourage personal relations. Yes, it has streets and squares but their dimentions are vast, the buildings are isolated within private gardens, neighbourhoods are build in an American Suburb style layout, there's no space for small commerce... of course, I'm sure most of the apatments and houses will not be for the average Egiptian but only for the wealthy! How many Dubais do we need before we build cities at a human scale again?
