  • The Matador NanoDry Towels are super lightweight. The silicone case is unique, though not quite as compressible as other towel cases on the market. View Our Full Review: packhacker.com...

    Matador promote these towels as being ultralight, super-absorbent and quick drying. They also claim that they stay fresh for a longer period of time due to a special “gold-coat antimicrobial coating”. Needless to say, all of these features really piqued our interest-but they had us at “gold-coat antimicrobial coating.”
    First off, these towels immediately stand out from other towels on the market because of the original design of the carrying case. Rather than a ripstop nylon or traditional mesh bag-which is common with most travel towels-Matador has opted for a silicone case.
    The cases have air holes on all sides, except one side which is completely open, allowing you to insert and pull out the towel.
    We’re always fans of low key branding, so we were happy to see some subtle, minimalistic branding on these things. It’s just enough to see that it’s Matador without being too ‘in your face’ about it.
    Overall, the Matador NanoDry towels offer a pretty unique travel towel experience-wait, did we really just say “towel experience”...? The silicone case isn’t something we’ve seen with many other towels on the market, and if you can look past it not being as compressible as other towels-and the weak snap loop button-this may be a great ultralight option for your next travel towel.

    In this video, Tom Wahlin of Pack Hacker reviews the NanoDry Towel (both the Large and the Trek version) from Matador. These towels are quick drying and lightweight. Folding them into the silicone case is a little tricky at first, but overall, they’re a close-to ideal towel for travel.

    Yo crew! What's your favorite packable towel for travel?

    • @M0ebius
      @M0ebius Před 6 lety +6

      I use a shemagh. For me the versatility outweighs the packability, since I use it for everything from towel, scarf, blanket, sun pro, rain hood, face mask, sweat rag, seating, to emergency slingpack, among many other potential uses. In fact I carry two for extended travel, one solid colors and one with prints, to switch it up and camouflage the fact that I wear the same outfit more or less every day. Personally the aesthetics works for me, but maybe not for everyone.
      You can technically do the same with micro towels, but generally those things are not square-shaped and are far less breathable, especially when wet.

      Thanks for the detailed response M0ebius- we dig the versatility! 👍

      I use the packtowl or an rei one and they've been great. Even when hotels provide towels, these things are great as allergen barriers for pillows so I don't wake up stuffy the next day.

    I love these! I bought them both because of the case and clip. They are convenient in so many ways. Super easy to put on the outside of your bag and let it dry out a bit. I always take them with me on trips be it hot springs, camping/backpacking/hiking, and even air travel. The bigger one actually helped me when a cat gave birth in my air b&b 😆

    I got them both, I use the small one for my hair and face and the big one for... Everything else. I don't recommend them in cold and/or humid climates because they will leave you slightly damp, not 100% dry.

    Towel is great. Case is stupid hipster marketing fluff. Matador makes some good stuff but they are bit too heavy on the marketing aimed at millennials.
    The small one is not a towel, it's a handkerchief. Which is actually great. I've been carrying a slightly larger one made from the same material in my back pocket for a couple of decades now. Glad to see Matador, Sea To Summit and others are finally selling larger versions.

  • @AnotherNowhereKid
    @AnotherNowhereKid Před 4 lety +2

    If you want to use as little space as possible, wouldn't you simply pack the towel without that 'massive' silicone case? To me it seems like the case is only useful if you want to carry the towel outside of your backpack. Or is there a more useful purpose of the case that I missed?

    Hello! Do you guys have any suggestions for a large but compact towel that is not made from microfibre? I really don't like how the material feels on the skin, but most compact ones seem to be made from it.

    • @PackHacker
      @PackHacker  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey Sarah - so far we've found microfiber to be great for travel because it dries quickly and packs down super small, but we totally get that the texture isn't going to work for everyone. We haven't been able to get our hands on any travel towels with different materials, but we're always on the lookout for new gear, so keep an eye out. 😊

    We have a fitness center at work with a typical locker room. Unfortunately, we don’t have towel service and I’m not a huge fan of a full sized, wet bath towel in my bag all day, plus it’s the single largest thing I have to pack. Is this towel a good alternative? How fast the towel dries is less important to me than how well it works as a shower towel to get me dry. Thanks!

    • @PackHacker
      @PackHacker  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Craig! The feel of the Microfiber may not be what you're looking for in this case-plus it's pretty thin. Have you considered PackTowl? That may be more up your alley for this use case: packhacker.com/travel-gear/packtowl/personal-towel/
