I was really touched by the note the protagonist leaves talking about how the player urges her onwards. It's rare for a game to make me feel like we really impacted somebody so personally and deeply. Well done by the developer.

Not to mention Vivo means "in a living being" or "in something alive". So "Lost in Vivo" literally means "Lost in a living being", which fits in cleanly with most of this theory.

Vivo means alive in Spanish, which makes the title much better, people here say he's alive, está vivo, did that example to let you understand it better.
Living means viviendo, but living being would be, ser vivo, which is also a good translation

    • @MarioB-us6um

      Vivo means alive in spanish.
Wich then could mean that you are "lost in life". That could be similar to saying to be "dead in life".
But yes it refers to a living being.
But can also refer to be on live. Like in a concert or stream.

I think the nightmare ending is also a representation of the character going too far into their therapy journey, breaking them mentally. The murky environment(so-called heaven) is now no different from the manhole(hell) they came out of. This journey has only shown our character the worst, making them believe that there isn't or won't be a good ending(an end to their suffering/trauma).
edit: too deep as in she couldn't mentally handle her fears thus instead of coming out of the journey as a changed person she returns the same as before, suffering from the same traumas. It doesn't matter how deep she went already because if she isn't mentally prepared for it, that is what will break her.

Personally, I see the Nightmare ending in a thematical sense as the protagonist misinterpreting the lessons learned from her therapy (possibly due to not approaching it from a mindset of hope, but self-loathing desperation) and coming out more paranoid, cynical and hateful. Imo, it′d be weird for the game to spread the message that "it can be hard and horrifying, but delving into your mind, facing your fears and finding hope despite your inner demons is important and will lead to a better life in the end," and then say "but don′t delve TOO deep!" would be kinda contradictory to the message, seeing how deep the protagonist went already.

    • @twbp8298
      @twbp8298 Před 2 lety +11

Very interesting interpretation that does work with what is provided in the nightmare ending. I do agree with that perhaps the journey of confronting the personal turn the "heaven" and "hell" of the protagonist essentially the same. However, I do think that it coincides with the protagonist embracing the "worst" of herself, that the fears, monsters and the "hell" that once was thought as worst and need to be eliminate (overcome) had become the "heaven" or the good the protagonist is seeking for at the end of the tunnel. The sacrifice to summon bayogota, in this case, serves 2 purposes as: 1. to connect the mythology or world building from the first game to this game by the same developer but also 2. to show the descend of the protagonist into cult, rituals, and taboo of actions (symbolise by the protagnoist willingness to sacrifice a child skull or figuratively a child after overcoming the trauma of her malnuture her child/fetus, perhaps she feel that death of her baby as a sacrifice with this new found thinking as a conclusion at the end of the journey?). Differ from the other bad endings where the inability to overcome her fears ends with bleak and sadness of the scenery still viewing what's in the sewers / her worst monsters as terrifying and horrible, she now embraces the darkness no longer just staying but more so merging with the darkness. Probably the protagonist will go on a killing spree after the nightmare ending as indicating by the text that show up that membranes drip from the sky and suffocate the landscape. (perhaps the killing blinds the surroundings and the protagonist no longer could go back into the sewer to the good end) At the end, this is just an interpretation as the game is present the message as more symbolic than literal, so take it with a grain of salt.

Fun fact: in the Nezumi Testing logo, the "N" in Nezumi and "esting" in testing are underlined, if you put both of the underlined sections together, it spells "Nesting". This is most likely to show the "nesting" of the monsters in the labs we go through in the game.

As we see in the gallery, her as the enemy and the white silhouette are the same. If the patient endured HER own trauma, it's because they're living the vivo of everyone. And Jane, decided to save them by blocking the train because they teached her to accept herself. Also, the 'orbs of light' are considered 'ghosts'.

If you wanna take everything as allegory it’s possible it represents the player owning a firearm, perhaps for self defense due to whatever incident they’ve suffered. but being unsure and unfamiliar with it and causing it to jam on the few times they practice with it, leading them to view it as “damaged.”

For the lab portion of the game I thought that it could do with the trauma of having to trial medications to help the protagonist with their health. A lot of mentally ill people, especially those with harsher mental illnesses, often talk about how hard it is to find a good medication specifically tailored to them with little to no side effects. You even mentioned in your Fran Bow video how they were treating her as a lab rat with different types of meds, just throwing them at Fran and seeing if anything stuck.
The only way this possible theory gets debunked is because of the monsters and reference to GL Labs. GL Labs being responsible for some of the monsters in Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion is proof that Dr. Picinini wasn't just one mad scientist who happened to work in conjunction with GL Labs, meaning his monster isn't just some one-off. This, in my opinion, means that the lab section is more likely something more than symbolism. There's possibly only one other theory to explain this:
Everything in Vivo Exposure Therapy is real. The protagonist is, in fact, facing REAL dangers. I don't believe it was mentioned anywhere that this was a simulation therapy for the protagonist. Though there are some plotholes for this as well, I believe it makes a bit more sense in reference to the lab section. I believe GL Labs regularly creates abominations and just does about anything they want with them. Perhaps they extended into medicine as well as psychiatry to find more use for their monsters. I believe when Vivo Exposure Therapy is offered to someone, it's offered under the guise of a simulation treatment, when it is actually real. I don't believe the protagonist was meant to find the labs, much less come to know to much about Bayagototh. There is one damning piece of evidence against this though, at that is the Maggoty Coffin reffering to the other sections being about other people. Still though, I think it's an interesting theory to play with

Psychological horror games like this, Silent Hill and Alice Madness Returns that have heavy symbolism, weird creatures and a deep story are my absolute favourite. I like the detail at each ending where the manhole you climb towards to escape changes in a way depending on your choice.
It symbolizes an eclipse, when you just begin the game then quickly escape back up it shows more than half the manhole covered and it's still foggy, whereas recovering the dog and your characters sanity the manhole revels to be completely open and its sunny
as for the Nightmare sequence as you begin leaving the manhole you see the night sky instead. . .
