This is a quick update for my modded OLED Switch! Sorry for the lack of structure in this one, I still don't have my setup to record and edit in the new gameroom. I should have it all sorted out by my next video.

3 years into modded switch and still not banned - just for those who wanted a long term opinion. i use stock for online and emunand for the rest lets say
you can only get banned if you join in the sysnand with icog, bc you can connect to nintendo servers without an serial number, thats why some ppl get banned
just block the nintendo servers connection and you should be fine

just got my switch modded after not using it for some months and now I use it daily. I love it. I didn't get OLED modded as it's lil bit expensive but I have a V2 and got that done. Everything is perfect. Didn't think I would be using my switch this much.
I felt the exact same way! My switch was only a Zelda machine for the longest time. Once I started to put retro emulators on it I played it all the time
Did you use the RP2040? Just ordered one for my v2 but not having much luck finding the firmware.

if you get hdr you load into a menu where you can go into acropolis then select your workspaces or toggle mods before launch.

It’s a struggle I’ve had setting up.

Freaking awesome mods. You definitely have spent alot of time setting up everything..... is it bad i was looking really close at the n64 games and hoping conkers bad fur day was in there hahahah. I've been thinking about having someone mod my switch oled. Or just buying a rog ally/legion go.
I have the ROG Ally as well so it just all depends on what you want to play the most 😁
I do a lot of PS2 and 3ds on the Ally, as well as a few AAA titles. Basically everything else is on the Switch
I just got done watching the video on setting up big box and emulation setup. Some things have definitely changed since the old n64 emulators. I didn't even know ps2 emulator was finally finished.

This is so awesome. I just sent my spare Splatoon 3 LE Switch OLED out to get a modchip installed. I have multiple 1.5 TB microSD full of digital games Ive purchased. So I dont need to pirate any games. But I wanted the ability to overclock, install mods, use the NSO emulators for all my own roms, use save backups and custom themes, etc. Ironing out performance in games with unlocked framerates looks awesome (Monster Hunter Stories 2, Trials Rising, Trails of Cold Steel games, Zelda BotW, Xenoblade 2, etc). I heard theres a mod for Persona 5 Royal that increases resolution even without overclocking. Hopefully theres a mod for Xenoblade 1/2 that increases max resolution in handheld to 720p so overclocking can push the res to native. I love that Emuiibo app too. I own every amiibo ever made so having them all digitally to access on the spot seems clutch. I cant wait to get my modded OLED back in the mail!!!

My favorite aspects of owning a modded Switch is the ability to install mods/cheats, and overclock it for more performance. For some reason, so many games run at less than 720p in handheld mode. It looks terrible, and they also insist on slapping a blurry AA methods, dynamic resolutions and other crap upscaling technologies on top as well; like FXAA and FSR. There are tons of fan made patches to push the games at the perfectly scaled 720p/1080p, and remove all that extra junk. Then, you can overclock the Switch to re-achieve a stable 30fps again.
For example, Persona 5 Royal. You can install the resolution mod, without overclocking and it runs perfectly stable. It's nonsensical of these developers.

A franchise like Pokemon, for example, shouldn't be YEARS behind in graphical fidelity and performance. It's literally the highest grossing media franchise on the planet.. the Switch may be "last-gen" at this point, but it's fully capable of running games that are way more demanding than Pokemon. Hogwarts Legacy and TotK come to mind immediately. 🙄

You can also boot in OFW instead of Sysnand, it’s safer. Only downside is you have to inject payload again.

Very nice video and it has made me more excited to mod my Switch. I'm just waiting for my v1 Switch to arrive this week. If your Switch happens to get banned doing this, am i right in saying that you just get banned from the Nintendo servers but you can still do everything else?. Tbh, i'm not bothered about playing online anyway anymore.
Yup, your console won't be able to access anything from Nintendo if banned. But ban prevention is super easy and always recommended 👍

You just have to make sure you have linkalho set up, then download the app from whichever place you get your homebrew from. After that, check out cave database manager on Google and you'll be off to the races 😁👍🏽

You got it all figured, thats so lit. How did you get mario kart 8 to work, all my games work apart from mario kart, when I try to launch it says 'the software was closed because an error occured'. Would appreciate any advise.
May need to redownload the game, updates, or DLC. Might have gotten corrupted somewhere along the way

Where can I go to ask questions about modding a Switch? One big thing I'm wondering is if it permanently alters the Switch. Or if i would lose access to downloaded games and online access. All I'm really interested in is playing retro games, stuff like NES, SNES, Sega.

Yes, I think this can be done using SYSMMC. I don't personally use it, but I do believe it's possible

I have couple of obscure requests - would my wired Xbox controller work with the Switch (since it has triggers would be better for certain racing games)? And did you try Android/Linux? I wonder what games would work outside Switch's library and emulation.
Yeah, so you can use missioncontrol plugin to use controllers from other consoles on your switch.
And it's funny you mention android, because that's probably what my next video will cover 👍

I'd like to help, but it doesn't really work that way. If I were to copy my card and send it to you, it would immediately have to be formatted once you put the card inside your console. And In the process, erase everything 😅
you mentioned your save files stay on the modded verison of your switch? so what do I do when I want to have a save file with mods?
I want to play Animal Crossing on my Modded Switch but then go play it Online with my gf but be able to drop stuff for her.
Some people use sysCFW for this, but I personally haven't ever used it
not natively having themes and a theme store like the 3ds was a huge mistake on nintendos part. hopefully that changes in next gen. Once next gen comes around im probably going to mod my switch like i did my 3ds before it
100% a missed opportunity for Nintendo. Themes were one of the coolest things about the 3DS imo.

Helpfull video. How do you change from EmuNAND to SysNAND that easy does everybody has that option with Hekate?
Glad to help! I just hold vol down when rebooting my console to launch into Hekate rather than my default (emuNAND).
You won't have that option unless you partition your card to have a dual nand. Then once that's set up you can have it auto launch into whichever you prefer

I just created my own NSP for it using a forwarder. They can even be made online. You’ll just need the correct pathways and your prod.keys

It's pretty easy using this program. Just plugin all the data in the fields. Make sure to add an image/picture that you want too.
Then take the created NSP and put it on your switch.
Then install using dbi or tinfoil or whatever you like to use 👍👍

If you mean in the NSO app, I actually used a pack by eradicatinglove. But it's very simple to do on your own, just use Cavedatabase manager

There are programs for dumping your ammibo data, such as this one

If I boot into my CFW and have Mario Kart on it, will it be obvious when playing with my friends that I have a modded switch? Or does it look similar to the OFW with games on it? (I realize yours looks different because you have a theme)

The easiest way would be if you had a V1 Switch. That way you could mod without a chip, but if you have a newer model Switch it'll have to have a chip installed to run CFW 😅

Modding smash is pretty easy once you have a hacked switch. You'll have to set up acropolis, then a mod staging folder, and you're gtg. The biggest issues always pop up after an update happens. It usually means you have to wait for your mods to be updated as well, so in some cases, it's better to not update at all.
Just remember only some select mods are wifi safe, and almost never recommended
I’m planning to mod my switch but I’m not sure how the storage works if I were to put all my modding stuff onto the sd card and then boot into the stock system would I be able to download games onto the sd card without any risk of getting banned or would I have to download them to my internal storage
If setup properly, your switch will have 2 partitions. An EmuNAND and a SysNAND. You'd have all of your modded stuff on the emuNAND. When you boot into stock you won't have any of the modded stuff there, but will be able to access eShop and everything like normal
So I've got some questions. When I modded my switch I specifically only used the Emunand instead of the Sysnand and things kinda broke because of it.
Can you still update games in Emunand and not get in trouble?
Is it better to play and mod games on Sysnand instead?
If I do things on Sysnand (like tinfoil, mods, etc) and then reboot to a standard switch do those things still show up on my real switch menu?
Yup, emuNAND games can ofc still be updated. Just not through Nintendo. You'll have to either source your updates from online, or dump your own backed up update NSPs.
No, never use any mods, homebrew, or custom firmware on sysNAND. Unless you don't care if your switch gets banned.
Again, don't add anything like that to sysNAND. This is your default unmodified Switch. Thus should not have Tinfoil, mods, etc

Dolphin and Citra standalone emulators can be added if you have android installed, but the citra core in retroarch can be run natively on Switch HOS 👍

What micro sd card brand you recommend getting, I’m looking for at least a 200gb or 1tb if possible.
I usually go with SanDisk Extreme. 1tb will be your best bet if you plan on having a large library
Is it safe to update a modded switch? I have an older modded switch with old firmware. I'm afraid that updating it would brick it or take away the custom firmware. It works but it can't play newer switch games from the last year or 2.
It is safe to update, but it'll have to be updated manually (not through Nintendo). Check out the reentry guide for more info

Quick question, if there is retroarch on there can you add a dolphin core and play wii games? We have mario galaxy and it would be cool to play other wii games on there but I haven't seen anything like that.
Yes and no. You can have dolphin on the Switch's OS but it'll play terribly. If you want to run dolphin on the Switch you'd probably want to install an android partition and run it from there 👍

It doesn't work that way 😅 if you were to do that, you'd have to reformat (delete) everything off of the card before the console let you use it.

Any chance you could go through your melon ds settings? Can't seem to swap screens/ only touch screen works atm
MelonDS standalone does an auto controller config. To my knowledge, you can't rebind mappings in the app, and the defaults always just worked for me.
Are you using a third party controller by chance?

As far as a brick goes, I don't think I've ever seen someone truly brick their console unless they messed something up whilst soldering

You'll have to make a fake link to an account using something like linkalho.
Then you can add games to it by creating your own pack or using one that's been recompiled.

It's for Turbo. Basically, you can map a button to turbo when pressed, and it will rapidly press it

Yup, that shouldn't cause any problems. Though, If you decide to update your console firmware you may have to update everything on CFW as well. Hekate, atmosphere, patches etc

How were you able to get the DS to work properly? I tried to play New Soup and Kingdom Hearts 358 days and they both ran at roughly 5fps
I don't use retroarch for DS Emulation, only MelonDS has good performance on the Switch as of this video
You can do an android partition and use drastic ds on android.

You can, but your switch will be swiftly banned by nintendo
so if i setup the emummc using exosphere and mitm, i can use tinfoil and play games with wifi on without getting banned?
