  • Putting the finishing touches on 2024 Aviary configuration seeing as how I only have 40 more days (16 really, but feels like 40) until birds released from quarantine.

What a great environment for the finches! Tears ago I had an indoor aviary with African finches. As soon as I added some silk plants for hiding spots, their behavior changed to more natural way of acting….with lots more songs too! I miss them! 😢

I am sorry you miss your finches, I got away from keeping them for a long time until I could build the aviary. It is a joy to be able to sit in there with them

I haven’t started adding water yet, but I think it will work. the ones I had embedded in the deck were great, except that slugs moved in and covered everything in slime which the birds did not like

As someone who keeps fish that need aragonite sand, keep in mind the added minerals in the water will cause a ton of calcification along the water's edge which can be very hard to remove. It also won't stop algae from growing; you just get a different species. The fish I keep are obligate algae grazers; if aragonite stopped algae, they'd starve in my tanks as well as in the wild. I adore your aviary so much!

Notice how I am ever so slowly building confidence to try live plants again…. I wonder who showed me it could be done!

I’m waiting for that day. Of all the plants, all my birds love the asparagus fern and spider plant to nibble on the most, they actually hang on the asparagus fern and nibble away....

I’m anxious and excited to see what species you’re bringing into your habitat. When you talk about its terrestrial lifestyle, I have a suspicion that you might be getting quail finch or maybe the painted fire tail. Whatever new species it is, he birds are coming to a good home.

I am trying so hard not to spill the beans- a lot can go wrong importing birds so it pays to not get hopes up too much. all will be revealed soon!

That’s understandable. I enjoy your videos and appreciate someone like yourself. You have the knowledge, ability and the means to breed some of the uncommon and difficult species. You’re incredible

you cam put some worm in the bark, like that is fun for them and instant food, you only have to moist the bark a little, and you can easily grow some. plant . I did in my front yard and Island 2 feet Hight, just wood ship, and I have pines ,roses all kind of wild flowers. Amazon sell a package of wild flowers. just trough it, there and let it be. very easy. you can water once a week, because you are inside, bark hold moist, and you have the charcoal, to avoid humid smell
