I am so excited for you getting your beautiful little birds all back into the aviary again An. It looks fantastic, but it always does. I hope your weather warms up soon and you don't have long to wait until you can move everybody back to their beautiful home. Oooh there is a tiny little goldcrest outside my sitting room window as I write, so tiny and beautiful 🧡
You have the best functioning aviary ive seen. Im putting my build down on paper at the moment. Question, is yours build of all redwood? Or is thier anything treated underneath. Looks awsome.
Thank you very much, I enjoyed planning it and hope you do too! The wood is untreated cedar but there is some treated ground-contact lumber to make the base framing which the birds could technically pick at but doesn’t seem to be a problem.
Hi, what material do you use for the round nest you use to the twinspot? Can you make a video how you make them. I have bought 2 pair of the greenback twinspot and Im waiting for the Peter twinspot 2 pairs, I have been so inspired of your videos about the twinspot.I started with birds when I was 11 years old. In 1982 I got my first red cheek corden bleu and I had success with them . I had lots of different spieces over the years. But never had some twinspots. Best regards,Peter A from Norway.
Hi Peter, You are very kind! Both of the twinspots are amazing species, very different and special (I think). The nest balls are made from round reed that is normally used for basket weaving. Maybe 3mm diameter. If you soak in hot water, it becomes very flexible (otherwise it can be brittle). I just make two or three loops and tie with string into a globe shape about 7 inches diameter, and then loosely weave other pieces in and out. Eventually it becomes very sturdy. Greenery tied on the outside. Be aware, getting to chicks to ring them may be close to impossible!
