TRIP REPORT | The Best B787 I've Seen! Top! | ETIHAD Boeing 787 | Vienna to Abu Dhabi

- Etihad Trip Report flying from Vienna to Abu Dhabi onboard one of the Etihad Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on a perfect summer sunny day.
A comfortable flight on the Etihad B787 from Vienna to Abu Dhabi. The Boeing 787 is a very nice plane for a long-haul flight; together with the Etihad cabin in light brown and golden colors, any flight is really pleasant.
We departed from Vienna from runway 16 and quickly made a left turn towards Hungary. Before reaching it, we had some amazing views of Bratislava (Slovakia) and, just a few minutes after, we overflew the city of Budapest (Hungary). From there we flew towards Serbia and Romania, enjoying some very nice views of Bucharest on the way, just before reaching the Black Sea.
We soon reached Turkey and crossed it all the way from northwest to southeast, enjoying some beautiful views of the Turkish Mountain System, until we reached Irak. After an almost 90° turn we flew in an almost direct course to Kuwait City. After flying over Basrah, we entered the Persian Gulf and flew on direct course to Abu Dhabi, where we landed around 20 minutes late after a beautiful approach.
In terms of catering, Etihad is one of the big airlines of the Persian Gulf, but has the fame of being the 3rd one in overall service, after Emirates and Qatar Airways. Well, sadly I have to agree with that. The food was good and tasty, but not at the level of those other 2 airlines: neither in taste nor quantity. Especially the quantity: it's really small. On top of that, there was no pre-landing meal/snack and the cabin crew didn't pass through the cabin offering any drinks at any time.
So, my conclusion after flying with Etihad for the first time is that, with no doubt, they are behind Emirates and Qatar Airways in basically everything but, at the same time, they are ahead of many European airlines in economy class.

I just got back from 4 flights on the EY 787-9 over 2 weeks .. low points were mainly that the seats and legroom are way too small for anyone above average size , and the ife content is a little bit limited.. high points were the crews on board - young , friendly and hardworking.. but also well trained professionals who did seem to care about what they do . Also the generous baggage allowance.. and very competitive fares .. I would do it again..
I feel emirates is also priced the same, but emirates provides better legroom and IFE (their library is humongous). No hate to etihad, I like to travel with them and I bothered to even fill a feedback form on what is wrong and how they can fix stuff, but when it comes to better product and price, I think Emirates still is great. (Another random note would be that abu dhabi airport currently is pretty shit, making transit pretty boring, apparently they will open the new airport by december? but they've been saying the same thing forever like the release of spiderman across the spiderverse in uae)

Looks like a million seats in your plane. That wingtip can go up and down 7 feet in turbulence making a nice ride in the cabin. Thank you for this it was a great ride.

It was a beautiful day for flying and yes, those mountains were spectacular. I would love to hike in them but I doubt I will make it and yes, your meal seemed awfully small considering you did not get anything else later in the flight. I have heard Etihad is a good airline to fly on but their meal service could stand an upgrade! Thanks.

Rarely you get to see flaps going Z (+), Z (-) on take-off. Excellent video..
They are the inboard ailerons , not the flaps . It’s very common to see this movement on the 787 , they are counteracting the tendency to roll .

Awesome video! Etihad has the best boeing 787 business class, but not economy class. I think turkish airlines 787 economy is better. And turkish airlines has the best economy class food.

Your clips are very good, but many a times you throw in negative comments, like the windows are dirty, the leg room is not enough, the meals were good but too small. The negativity then negates the whole goodness. I am quite sure these airlines are doing their best, and like any human being, have their faults. So let us appreciate their efforts and give them credit for their good work. I am in the hospitality business and know how one tries to put in their whole to please the customer and believe me, it is not easy.

Some European componies are inderdaad not the best but same can be said about middle Eastern, American an Asian compenies. Some are fine some aren't. By the way, most companies need to work for their profit as most Middle eastern get money from not all togther great royal families and status.

Thanks - very much enjoyed your report. The answer to your question will be due to how Etihad is funded. European airlines largely operate in accordance with the pressures of private enterprise….NOT State funded to the tune of Billions like Etihad.
Etihad isn't directly funded from government. But yes there investment comes from royal family.
Etihad airplanes is new but economy food is still poor as compare to Qatar and Emirates

Etihad are terrible. I flew with them from JFK to Abu Dhabi to Melbourne return. The flight attendants were rude, they yelled at passengers, refused drinks to customers, and tried to stop dual citizens ( US-Australia) from checking in as they didn't understand that you don't need a visa to Australia as a citizen. It happened to me. They told me I can't check in as I need a visa for Australia. I literally showed them my Aussie passport several times before they gave me my ticket and were pricks the whole time.
