While the reading of the title sounds like that, I think its also a pun with WakuWaku (wakyuwakyu) as in exciting. Even the kata can be read as waku or wak

I re-read this for fun and I can see why it was axed. Those clunky first few chapters reveal too much about the world, taking away all of the mysteries from this world. I missed the part in the first chapter where it as stated that humans made the black-bloods because I thought was a twist when I first read it. The limited number of goujin zou users limits the amount of fights/character interactions that could happen and the characters as well. Also, the gender balance is way off, the characters I thought were women as a kid are actually men and the main girl is underutilized. Which is a shame because the art is really unique, from the robots to the guardians' merged form and some of the fights were great. The last criticism I have is that its tone isn't well-balanced. The way Shio's power is drawn sometimes just takes me out of it or the reveal that the water goujin zou was just delusional about his brother dying which took all the tension out of the conflict. The story has really serious aspects like Shio having to absorb the memories of previous Goujin Zou users and the dangerous nature of worship, but its either glossed over or filled with annoying comedy like that ninja. I really wanted to like it more, but seeing it in fully leaves me more bitter. Despite all that, I still have a slight fondness for it, maybe its nostalgia or how unique it is. May check out Fujisaki's other work to see if he is better with more time to tell a story or a magazine that can let him go wilder.
Yeah its beginning is easily the worst part for me and I pretty much agree with everything you mention here but despite that I still quite like it for being unique in it's art and overall plot
