    HOW to set up your first SALTWATER AQUARIUM! Starting your first saltwater aquarium can be intimidating. I remember doing endless research and still being hesitant to get started, until I finally got the courage to do it. Which is the reason I created this video, I started off with this 20 gallon aquarium about 3 yrs ago. I spent a ton a money because I listened to everything and everyone, I DO NOT want you all to go through the same thing. In this video you will see exactly how easy it is to get started. I’m using a 20 gallon Top Fin aquarium; (1) Fluval 50 HOB Filter and (1) Fluval 70 HOB Filter. I’m using a 200W aqueon heater. I’m currently using a Nicrew Classic LED aquarium light. Caribsea live rock cave and branch and caribsea sand. I’ll provide the links down below. Last but not least, I purchased my saltwater from my local aquarium. The water is sold with a salinity level of 1.025. This works very well for some fish and corals. I hope this video gives you all the confidence to finally try it for yourself. If you have any questions, please drop them down below. Keep a look out for the next video when we add some fish!! 🐠 🐟 I really appreciate you all for watching!! Please consider subscribing, also hit the notification bell 🔔 so you’re notified every time I upload. And Please like the video if you learned something or enjoyed it!

    I'm honestly terrified to start a saltwater aquarium. Clownfish are one of my favorite fish and idk if it's worth me risking their life because I'm a beginner but I know I would love having one if I had the confidence. Great video!!

    Like yourself, I started with freshwater years ago. I had a beautiful tank and thought I had mastered the aquarium world. Then I had a house fire and lost all of my fish. While my house was being rebuilt, I bought a book on saltwater tanks and started one once back in my house. After about a year I became frustrated because it went from an enjoying hobby, to work. Fish were so expensive and when you lose a $60+ fish it is discouraging. But after 20 years I’ve decided to give it a shot again. Your large tank is beautiful! I enjoyed your video! Thank you!

My fiancé got a 40 gallon tank for $45 at petco. We are getting every piece little by little. I was so intimidated by saltwater setup videos, I almost cried out of frustration. This video made me not give up!

      Thank you! And that’s right. A lot of reefers want their system all high tech and they over complicate it for those that are considering getting involved in the salty side of fish keeping. All those extra gadgets are for the lazy fish keeper. Someone who wants to be hands off as much as possible. What’s the point in having an aquarium if you don’t even like to maintain it.. or don’t have the time.. anyway it’s unnecessary, so I’m making it simple and realistic for anyone to get started. 👍🏾👍🏾

    I can't believe it's been a year! I watched this a few times when setting up a tank because I just wanted a simple little tank with no corals. Great beginner video! The biggest issue I had was fish disease with all my attempts at a tank. I eventually caved and purchased quarantined/medicated fish and wish I had done it sooner. It's a lot more expensive but it increased my success rate tenfold and was worth every cent. I have no fear buying more fish/inverts down the line from the same person because their service gives major piece of mind.

    Ran a 20g saltwater tank when I was a kid many years ago. Used an undergravel filter, small HoB filter, made my own water, crushed coral substrate. Was a lot of fun. I couldn't afford much in terms of fancy fish. I had clowns, blue damselfish, a few pink tipped anemones, starfish, a hermit crab that was hilarious to watch...a few things I shouldn't have had. Sadly, I had shady small town LFS that would sell me things and not say "hey that pretty queen angelfish is going to need 200g tank later". (Back then we didn't have internet to research)

    I've always been drawn to the saltwater fish at our local shop every time we go there. They are so beautiful.
    My plan from a uneducated perspective is to get a 20 gallon tank and learn to sustain coral and sea anenemies. After I feel educated enough on the fish I want and sustaining healthy tank life ill eventually add fish.

The sump totally discouraged me… but it’s only a 20 gallon for me too and when I did a test run last year with just clams and snails and a baby crab it did well. • @TheFishCorner
      @TheFishCorner  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for your support and feedback! I can definitely understand you being discouraged by the sump, that’s the part that intimidates most people. I was the reason I took so long to start as well. You can start and maintain a 20 gallon with a HOB filter. I would recommend something like a Fluval 50. You can put a couple clownfish and damsels in there with a small cleanup crew. That would be just enough for you to really have some fun with it while educating yourself further. Just buy your saltwater from the store, grab some live sand and a few pieces of live rock and you’re good. Do a 10% water change every week or 20% every other week. All depending on stocking. Nonetheless, this will give you a good start, if you need help with anything, don’t hesitate to reach out. Good luck! 🍀

    I’m a beginner and here is a little tip I used. When pouring water into your tank out a stainless steel dog bowl or some time of bowl put it on the bottom of tank and pour water into the bowl sitting on the sand. That way it won’t disturb your sand or gravel.

    So glad I found this channel. We’ve been wanting to start a saltwater tank for years and we finally took the plunge today after seeing this video. We bought the 20 gallon aquarium kit, live sand, and live rock. We couldn’t find premade saltwater, so we will mix it ourselves. My question is how long will we need to wait before adding fish? You said that you could add fish the same day with the premade saltwater, but what about when we mix it ourselves?

    • @TheFishCorner
      @TheFishCorner  Před 3 lety

      You’re welcome! And you can pull it off with a 10 gallon I would plan to upgrade to at least a 20 gallon when you can. Make sure you have a decent HOB. Maybe a Fluval Aquaclear 30 for the 10 gallon and a Aquaclear 70 for the 20 gallon. But you’ll be thankful for the upgrade. The parameters won’t fluctuate as easy. When you do your maintenance on it, you can change out 5 gallons a week or so.
      As for lighting, just a regular LED light should suffice and 50 watt heater.
      Not much is needed to house a pair of clowns. Live rock, live sand and saltwater water from your local aquarium will be all you need to get started.
      Keep RODI water to top off your tank as the water evaporates.

And a 1250 aqueon circulation pump. Day 1 going well it’s very cloudy from the live sand stirring up with the water. It’s settling and I set my rocks in their position .Gonna add some microbacter7 tomorrow , and was contemplating adding a sponge filter for more internal biological filtration, by adding activated carbon in the middle , what do you think about that idea since I don’t have a sump is that a good idea ?
