First time I even sat in the shifter kart. Racing in Sprint Stock CR125 class which uses a Honda CR125 2-stroke dirt bike engine and the 6-speed gearbox that goes with it.
Only got 4 laps of driving on my first practice run in the dry with slicks on and the track was a bit damp. Next time it was raining and I ended up rear-ending a guy who spun out in front of me in the 2nd lap (wreck at 4:05). This bent a steering column and tie rod and I was unable to compete in the first race. Second race it was raining while I was in the pits so I kept the rain tires on but then it suddenly became sunny and dry while I was waiting on grid. The rain tires burned up after a couple laps and then I was pretty much just having fun drifting around all the corners with no rubber for the rest of the race. Check out my tires at 7:00, haha. Anyone who chose slicks was much faster than me but I did pretty well against most of the other people who chose rain tires, which was about half the starting grid.

I also watched your vids after I think two years under your belt and you are much faster and staying on the power along the back straight much longer good stuff. Also your lap times are very consistent on that track in the 1:22's So well done!

About the music, Right choice
I think ive seen some of your videos on aut/o/, good stuff man. How much would it cost to build a kart? The right way
A brand new a CR125 shifter is around $11k to put together but you don't have to spend that much to be competitive in road racing. I went with an almost-new engine and a 3yo chassis (completed for about $6.5k) and I have no trouble keeping up with the leaders. If you're ok with not winning or just want a bad ass track toy there are plenty of cheap old beaters under $3k, the 125cc shifters are so huge at the road tracks right now that you'll have people to battle with no matter where in the field you are anyway.
Single gear kart engines and especially the 4-stroke classes are also much cheaper than shifters. Those might be a better starting point as you can put together a mid-pack kart for the cost of a beater shifter. I started with a World Formula and I still use it for the cheap local sprint track club races. It's also significantly cheaper to race as I can use pump gas and the tires last nearly all season, great for getting a ton of seat time without spending a fortune.

Typical shifter kart road race costs around $200-300 for entry, $50 in
fuel, and $215 in tires (which can be used again on a practice day but
aren't fast enough for a second race day).

I spent around $6500 for mine, brand new they are about $11k. If you just want a track day toy though there are a bunch of really cheap 125cc shifter karts in the sub-$3k range. Still plenty fast but they won't be winning championships.

It came with the kart, probably most karting supply shops have a similar bracket I would guess.

Do you think it would be possible to even fit in a kart if your 6'2" and about 230 pounds (not fat, just big and tall)? I've heart you have to be shorter, and if you're over say 180 you'll weigh too much to be competitive.

yeah the amazing sr71 but russia built the mig 25 ! any case kart, racing, and motorsport is about passion and "heritage" and we have all these things. italian karts and engines are the best in the whole world, and not just karts and engines...
pakkiaman2 There are some people here that race KZ engines but not nearly as many. They are really touchy and will seize or blow up at the slightest overrev or wrong jetting, require rebuilds so frequently people are getting new pistons every race, and the parts are really expensive and have to be shipped from overseas. Stock Honda is much better for the average person's budget. Plus, who wants to race against the 3 other KZ karts when you could be racing against 30 Hondas instead?
HairyFruitOfPassion i know , cost of kz1-kz2 is a problem, a piston here cost 80 euro, a conrod about 150 euro, 4 bridgeston tyres about 250 euro and a kz10b max. prep. engine 5000 euro. But our love for racing is immense. I really dont know why but NO ONE here in italy use honda engine , no one !!in any case the are huge differences between a honda engine and a kz10b or Iame or Maxter, the first makes about 38 hp the second 50 hp at max. prep. their top speed on larger racetracks is almost 140 mph another difference is that kz engines dont hold idle. but if you take a look all best chassis and engines companies are italian. check on youtube these 2 video "Nizza, CRG kz10b" and "Carburazione tm kz10b massima preparazione". isnt it beastly ? i just love it

Any of them can sell you a roller chassis or a fully built kart with whatever engine package you want. You could also look for kart chassis dealers in your area to avoid shipping costs.

You can use paddle shifters but not the kind that operate on compressed air, just the ones that use cables. I don't know where you're located but I would find your local sprint track and show up on a race weekend to ask people how to get involved. ekartingnews.com is a good resource as well.
