      It's a free practice session as mentioned in the description. Everyone runs a different program, different set up. Some might have gone for a 2-lap qualifying simulation, some on old tires for race heats, some or new. Max went for 2 new sets of tires and smashed the lap record (which lasted until last year I believe), but nobody was trying to race each other at this point.

      @@davidc.w.2908 actually that is not true. Kart racing is absolute racing, you're only shown the blue flag if you're being lapped. However, as I've mentioned on the description, this is the last Free Practice session before qualifying. Others run on old tires, others on new, others try 2 laps for qualifying and others a full 15-lap race simulation. There is no point racing each other as they're running different programmes so they let through anybody who's going faster at that point.

    • @itsDuckHunter
      @itsDuckHunter Před 9 lety +1

      Yes, I do that too. One my first race I placed 3d, I am generarly a very aggressive and fast driver. I generarly follow the racing line, but i sometimes get wheelspin.

    • @LogiForce86
      @LogiForce86 Před 8 lety +1

      DuckHunter Take some lessons from Jackie Stewart, be smooth and not aggressive. Max drives very smooth here in my opinion. I think your aggressive style overheats the rear tyres. Either that or you don't push the tyres enough and they are too cold, but if you're an experienced driver I honestly doubt that.
      So try to calculate the smoothest line to pass an opponent and set him up. Often when you make a few jabs an opponent will end up driving a tight defensive line. In the right corner sequence you just need to have a higher exit speed (late apex) and you will often pass on the next corner.
      One other thing can be on how you handle weight transfer. I hardly move my body in the kart, but most guys I see with wheelspin or even spinning end up leaning too much into the corners. That or their seat is too far forward and that puts the center of gravity too far forward, in other words there isn't enough pressure on the rear driven wheels.
      My tip...you can practice driving and racing techniques if you get a sim racing rig and a good simulation game. My preference is Project CARS and the Formula Gulf (drives like a big kart). It has helped me a lot in learning to judge corners and their various apex points quickly on the fly, as well as generally also being able to grasp unknown tracks more quickly.
      Last karting heat I started 3 laps late and still was 1st place with ease on an unknown track, with 2 seconds ahead of 2nd place. This was by fastest lap btw. Only once I had a nice drift due to my slicks getting wet because of a wet patch on the track, but other than that I didn't have a single case of wheelspin. It was a nice heat.

    • @itsDuckHunter
      @itsDuckHunter Před 8 lety

      Very nice tips. I've got to known the racing driving style by watching f1 and other types of racing, and playing racing video games.
      My style is aggressive, but sophisticated. I usually get to drive kart a few times a year, so don't get to choose a kart, or set it up to my own preferences, nor do I know how.
      What is good, is that I can adapt to different karts and circuits really easily, and perform just as good. I try to be smooth, while maintaining reallly high speeds. When I get behind someone, I won't let him go more than 1m away from me, Only way he's getting rid of me, is by getting overtaken by me. I really like driving any sort of vehile to be honest.

    • @LogiForce86
      @LogiForce86 Před 8 lety

      DuckHunter I am the same. I just drive the rentals basically.
      There is no single racing driving style though. As far as I can see the driving style is derived from the mentality and emotions of the driver. Prost was 'The Professor' a thinker, but Senna was an emotional man. One thinks more corners ahead and is cool, while the other does also plan ahead but easily gets heated up emotionally while driving.
      The thing is that no matter what you have to adapt your driving style to the situation at all times, because both the kart and track change nature every lap. So when your rear tyres get too hot and slippery you have to become more calculating and tacticle with the attacks on your opponent. Sticking to his rear by 1m doesn't help as you will just end up driving his line on the track, because you essentially get caught up in his rhythm.
      That said, maintaining speed through all corners doesn't always give a faster laptime. Cause the exit of a corner is more important than the entry, so slow in fast out. So what in essence you should maintain is not speed but momentum, or put differently... you need to minimize the effort the kart engine has to make to increase speed again. If there is too much scrub or resistance on the wheels at exit it will slow down your acceleration. That is what it means to be smooth. Easiest way is to try to minimize your steering input, become more economical/efficient. Or as Jackie would word it... be gentle with it, feed it in so that the kart can respond. Cause if you suddenly jerk the wheel it will upset the kart and it will do things you don't want.
      In the end if you spare your tyres and brakes, you can be aggressive and heated when the time is right. However, if you are a constantly aggressive driver and wear out your tyres and brakes quickly or overheat either than you will end up limiting yourself. You can only be aggressive for so long until something stops working efficiently and stopping you from being fast enough.
      I love driving any vehicle as well. I own a Lancia Delta model that came after the famous Integrale. It doesn't look like much, but still people like to race me every once in a while or just move aside (M3, RS4, TT, etc). I don't know why though, as I only have a 105hp 1.6 16v engine in that little car of mine. So it's nothing special. Maybe it's the aura of me the driver and the driving style I have, even though I am driving within the limits of traffic laws. I really have no clue.

      505197 True, but that's with loads of sports, no matter how good you are, you still need some luck in your life.
      Take a look at Messi, when he was young he often got chosen as latest, simply because he was small. When he was 16 he went to Holland to join the world cup under 18.
      He sat on the bench, but there was a guy that knew about his skills, but sadly this wasn't his coach at the time. That person was Piet de Visser, one of the best talentspotters in the world. The youthcoach of Argentina didn't listen to him, simply because he didn't know him. Piet de Visser somehow knew how to get in contact with Maradonna, Maradonna who didn't knew about Messi at the time. He phoned Maradonna and told him that youthcoach should let Messi play.
      Eventually Messi was allowed to play, Argentina won that tournament, became worldchampion under 18 and Lionell Messi became the player of the tournament.
      After that Messi's carreer skyrocketed.
      Funny thing, Messi himself has probably never heard of Piet de Visser and probably doesn't even know this story.
