Little jimmie Dickens actually gave string bean a pair of his pants as a joke. String used those to create his signature look. I want to think they are attached to his shirt some way so they don't fall. It's been a while since i read the story. Sadly he and his wife were murdered. Very tragic. Anywho.. If you get bored string beans story is pretty good. I just love him..
Man, alive, that was good. I had a friend back in high school who learned to play the banjo. Then he learned the guitar. He said that guitar wasn't nothing after the banjo. Told that story to a man I worked with. He said, "I guess that guitar WAS easy after that banjo!"
David Akeman (June 17, 1916[1] - November 10, 1973), better known as Stringbean (or String Bean), was an American country music banjo player and comedy musician best known for his role on the hit television show, Hee Haw, and as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Akeman and his wife were murdered by burglars at their rural Tennessee home in 1973.
The version I know is way slower. winter 1985 I made a tape jamming, reading poetry, and making stuff up on the spot with some friends. All my friend had to do was play the first line and we were hysterics...this song has such a fun jumpy tune!
Ok, this video is positive proof that the modern craze of Sagging, that is to say these young gang banger types wearing their pants down low showing their butts, did not begin recently! Lol!
Actually, it DID! The two are completely separate phenomena. Here he is not showing his butt. He is wearing his pants low but he in NOT indecent. Its a visual gag from before you were born. The crap today is morons emulating gangster culture which emulates prison culture which in that case is booty call. That's right, all the little hoods are presenting to get F'd in the A'. Thats what it means and its what it always meant in that culture. He's doing vaudville, those little shits you're talking about are just acting literally GAY.
"the banjo is the instrument that started country music" Ironic as the banjo is African in origin. Not making a political statement, but think about it and draw your own historical conclusion.
bikerscout2012 banjo was one of the first stringed instruments that started the real country music like this which was music that was played back in the country by whites and blacks and major influence from both but yes banjo is derived from africa ,i personally think that blacks are underappreciated when it comes to that .Of course when you say banjo folks always think the sterotypical white hillbillies but we can thank the blacks for this fine fine instrument , sorry for the history lesson but i dont understand your comment seems like you might of misunderstood the fellars statement . we can also thank them for alot of great influence on the playing styles and songs . god bless and long live good ole fashion country music !
Still don't understand why Stringbean is not in the Country Music Hall of Fame! If anyone should be there, he should.
He’d turn it down... he was always 1000mi away from that “Nashville ideal”.
He was different. There were many others.
Uncle Dave isn't in there and he's the man behind string and one of the first Opry stars
Actually hes in the Bluegrass Capitol Museum monument
ok.... I don't know what impressed me the most. The music, or the fact his trousers didn't fall during the dance 😁

akeman was originally nicknamed STRINGBEANS, as akeman was fond of stringbeans, not because he was so thin. later-on the " s" was dropped.
