  • This video covers installing a new LS Swap gas tank for the Nova. Tank is from Summit Racing, part #SNE-19-416. The pickup-tube fittings I just picked up from a local hardware store. The main reason for this new tank is to eliminate the fuel pump noise on startup and while driving. It was incredibly loud!!! It is now super quiet.

    Bit of a late comment here, but I found your channel a few days ago and I LOVE how attentive you are to detail in your videos! I'm about to get started restoring my '69 Nova, "Bertha", and this channel has been a wealth of knowledge. Thanks so much for answering questions I didn't even know I had!

      Thank you for the comment! Lack of detail in many videos I found is exactly what motivated me to create this channel. Let me know if you have questions!

      Yeah it's probably either due to how I tag the videos or just basic advertisement of them. Who knows. But they're fun to do and it helps people.

    Hey I found your channel from the ar5 swap. See, I’m in the planning stages for a very similar build in my xj but I plan on pushing a little more then your dyno video. I’m planning for around low-mid 500s and I’ve been struggle with trans option. The ar5 is on the table for me due to it having a bit higher torque rating compared to my other options (ax15 and nv4500). How has the ar5 held up? Does it get driven hard or is it mainly a cruiser? I don’t plan on doing burnouts and won’t do many hard dig launches. The most it would get abused would be crawling through the mud. Which is musically just spinning soo… I’d love to hear your thoughts being as you have some time on the trans.

    • @stevesgarage7644
      @stevesgarage7644  Před rokem

      Yeah you will find that they rate the AR5 pretty low from factory specs. But in truth it can handle a great deal more torque. Some one I know was finally able to break it with twin turbos on a 800rwhp setup. I don't baby mine either. Yeah its a cruiser but that doesn't stop me from letting it rip 1st through 3rd gears. The tires I have are MT street performance so they like to grip quite a bit. I have definitely put a good strain on this trans and it shifts like a dream. But even if you break it by some chance, go buy another one for $300.

    So now you have to drop the fuel tank to change bushings or the leaf spring?

    • @stevesgarage7644

    Hello. I’ve had venting issues. Could you give me advice on how exactly you ran the rollover valve placement. Do you have fumes in the garage, I have lots. I have the same tank. Thanks

    • @stevesgarage7644
      @stevesgarage7644  Před 2 lety +1

      I placed the valve right above the tank in the same area as the spare tire mount. So just to the right of that vertical bracket. So the forward upper level of the trunk space. No venting issues and no smell at all.

    Hey Steve, what fuel pump did you use with that tank? I'm curious the bolt pattern it has and would a big pump fit in there? I have the Aeromotive version in my car now, but need more for additional HP. I have a couple videos on my channel, you'll see the reason I need more pump lol

    Good morning from Napa ca. I recently bought a 2011 chevy Colorado 2.9 im planning to make some upgrades have already an aluminum gas tank. To put in the back of rear diff. Or over the bed. Is it difficult to make the connections?

    • @stevesgarage7644
      @stevesgarage7644  Před 3 lety

      No not at all. Connections were super easy. For the pump, which I didn't explain in the video, the tank pickup tube assembly has two water-tight nubs to run the neg/pos leads out of, then just hook those up to a ground and your pump power side. The sending unit is just a ground and a gauge side that hooks up to your existing wire. The return is the fuel feed back from your pressure regulator and the supply side feeds the fuel rails. The vent is key though. It must be above the fuel tank. I mounted mine through the trunk floor, up where the spare tire used to be and off to the side in case I relocate the battery back there and need a flat area to mount it. The reason for this is that the vent is a "roll-over" protection vent and it has a ball bearing in it that will close off the vent in the event of a roll-over so fuel doesn't go spilling everywhere. Just make sure it is higher than the fuel tank, by several inches. The instructions show it at the top of the tank, which I don't agree with. I needs to be higher in the event the gas is sloshing around in there with a full tank. Hope that helps!
