In the 1980s, Elizabeth clashes with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher while Prince Charles enters a tumultuous marriage with Lady Diana Spencer. - Zábava
It's horrifying and unfortunate that Helena didn't win an Emmy nor a Golden Globe for her performance in the third season of The Crown! She better win some awards for the fourth one at least!
I know, she was robbed, she really deserved to be nominated! 👏🏾😊
But there are too many competitions this season Lol Emma Corrin, Gillian Anderson and maybe others, I really do hope she earned one though but it’s extremely challenging.
She wasn't robbed, there was a lot of competition. Julia Garner also deserved
@@lucasvieira4171 nope not as much as she did.
She had some amazing scenes in season 4 with the hidden relatives storyline.
my face light up each time there's a Princess Margaret scene just because I know I would love to see whatever she's about to do
Me too
Same...
And to hear her sassy one-liners
And listen to her rudeness! What a nasty spoiled person!
Me, too! I'm always happy when she gets screen time.
"You've made this far"
Slays me every time 😂
and that quiet "bravo" omg.
I laughed out loud. He said it with such a straight face,
That delivery is a single awarding winning moment
yeah. That was good....
Poor Harold he can't laugh in fornt of the queen
Her story was as sad as Diana’s in my opinion. She was mistreated and misunderstood. They made her choose between her love and title, a decision that she regretted for the rest of her life. Not to mention that she was butchered by the press as well. And then she died at a hospital at 71, crippled and half-blind as a result of strokes. Her life was truly a tragedy. 🥀
@@katewilliams4013That was an unnecessarily long response, which basically shows that you are perhaps a person with no purpose in her life, and a lot of time on her hands apparently, which makes you write five paragraphs in response to a simple piece of opinion which wasn’t even directed at you. That’s sad! You talk about the freedom of press and speech, yet here you are, lecturing me about how I should think or speak. Not to mention that you don’t even know me. For your information, I just don’t watch TV series. I have read books about these people. They all had flaws and were imperfect (Diana and Margaret included), yet being a royal doesn’t make you immune to misery and sadness. Plus, as a person who claims has read books about these people, you should have known that Diana never married Dodi Fayed, the guy whom you referred to by his race/ethnicity rather than his name. I have sympathized with many people throughout my life and I continue to do so no matter what their background is. So next time, think twice before passing any judgements about other people, especially those whom you don’t know.
@@katewilliams4013
Diana never remarried, don't know where you got that from. Otherwise I agree with a lot of what you say about Diana.
@d 2020 . You have misspoken. Princess Margaret most certainly was allowed to marry Peter Townsend . She had to make a choice though, marry and give up the royal life or not marry and remain royal with all of the perks. She made her choice.
@d 2020 . The royal family most certainly did not kill Margaret's spirit or body. Margaret, herself made the decision to give up love . She had a choice and her decision was to stay royal and enjoy all of the money and perks. Additionally, nobody forced Margaret to destroy her body. She chose to smoke and drink heavily. She was an adult. You really can't blame others for her behavior.
agree. her life journey is as sad as Diana.
She and Olivia are so perfect on screen together.
Absolutely right. As much as I love Olivia Colman, HBC was the highlight of series 3 an 4 for me.
Olivia has not nailed the accent like claire !
I love how they call each other "You"
@@ais8358 Completely agree, I don't think Olivia's nailed the character or the accent the way Claire and Helena both have. I like Olivia in many things, I've seen her do wonderful work, but I don't think this is her best.
As wonderful as Olivia is, I feel that HM should've been portrayed by a more beautiful woman, as awful as that sounds. I also thought at one point that Dan Stevens was a missed opportunity as Prince Philip
I genuinely believe that Helena Bonham Carter did the best job as Princess Margaret. Nobody could have done it better. Sure, Vanessa Kirby was fantastic, but to potray the Princess in this age was a job for Helena.
Equally great actresses
Nina Gold!!
Nina Gold is absolutely a legend in casting and she definitely gets PAID for it.
I agree. Vanessa has blue eyes like Margaret, whereas Helena's are brown. Vanessa played a great young Margaret. However, Helena Bonham Carter was a brilliant choice for the more mature Margaret.
@@marylouise2207 it confused me too in the series I don't understand why they just didn't make Helena put on blue contacts because it kind of throws me off sometimes when they foreshadow in the childhood Margaret and the young adult Margaret has blue eyes but then the older age Margaret has brown eyes kind of weird
Certainly one of her best roles. She will be missed in the next season.
But Margaret died February 9th 2002. She still has time they might cover her stroke Dianna dies first then then Margaret then Queen Mother March 30 2002. They can't kill her till about season 5 or 6th.😖 😬🤦🏾♀️
@@MsKewi-NYC they change cast every two seasons to keep in line with the aging of the character, like they replace Claire Foy with Olivia Coleman in Season 3. So The Crown will have an entire new cast next season, every character, except (maybe) Diana, because this is her first season
@@adrielvelasco7991 Diana sadly is being re-casted. It was announced immediately the series was released
The cast is being completely replaced for season 5 (2022) and season SIX!!!!! The actress who played Dolores Umbbridge in the Harry Potter films will play the Queen for the last 2 seasons. No other casting picks announced yet.
@@adrielvelasco7991 Elizabeth Debicki has been roped in to play lady Di
The dynamic between Margaret and Elizabeth is truly one of the most unique of all, since realistically, only Margaret could talk to her sister the Queen, in a way that simply no one could ever do so. Its also cute when they have scenes together where they act more like a pair of sisters than monarch and princess.
Considering Elizabeth and Margaret ARE sisters what the hell do you expect them to act like?
@@NotMykl Not like sisters, cuz they're not normal sisters, but royalty. That's the perception a lot of uninformed viewers, like me, had before going in.
What are you doing? That's is my button.
The one overall flaw of this show is that the cast is so bloody talented that half of them don't have enough screen time. I would've loved more of HBC and Princess Anne these last 2 seasons. Both amazing performances with such little time to shine.
Ain’t nobody got time for the fringe members of the royal family
It’s better to want more of them than to get bored of them
Agreed
Because it should focus on Queen Elizabeth II..
Anne has no scandal attached to her.OK she is the only member of the royal family with a criminal record but that seemed to blow over pretty quickly
Honestly Helena Bonham Carter is by far my favourite actress, and shes brilliant in the crown. She better win a Golden Globe for season 4.
Tobias, Helena and Olivia all deserve awards. I loved Tobias' monologue when he was talking to Dean Woods after the moon landing.
The ways olivia said, “You’ve made it this far.” Cracks me up all the time
Thatcher: I'm gonna work in this nice desk
Margaret: Peace was never an option
I felt so bad for her when Margaret did that😂😂😂
@@nanaowusu-attakorah5069 And it's a very good bit of writing to actually be able to make one feel bad for Margaret Thatcher of all people. Like, damn it, I'm not supposed to feel sympathy for one of Satan's finest agents.
Thatcher deserved every bit of it. She should have done her homework about protocol and/or brought a guide along to help her.
@@MaxxCoyote I'm not British so could you maybe explain to my why a lot of people hate Thatcher? I know that one of the things she does is closing the mining industry so is that the reason people didn't like her?
@@justalex2487 There are so many things...
I personally think she did a lot of good and whole bunch of bad to the UK.
She managed to change Britain to the better in such a violent way.
She killed so many Irish people.
She was homophobic and sexist.
She was very confrontational against her own party, politicians, her own country and others as well.
She didn't place sanctions against South Africa during apartheid. A reason being that her son Mark had businesses in SA, excusing it as a way to protect the fragile economy of England.
She closed mines and minimize the state's size in a moment of great misery in the UK as a whole.
I get that this series was only gonna be about Thatcher and Diana, but I wish we had more of Margaret. She was absolutely amazing in that one episode 7. The Emmy for best supporting actress race is already tight with both Gillian and Emma, I doubt they’re gonna want to nominate three actresses in one category, out of 5 spots...
Gillian doesn’t deserve the Emmy nomination for Thatcher. I mean, don’t get me wrong, she’s an amazing actor. But her portrayal of Thatcher was just plain wrong. Helena, on the other hand, was pretty spot on.
@@sarthakarora5856 you’re wrong.. toodaloo
I don't know, it might have made the show even more depressing. I don't know much about the real Margaret, but the character in the show seems to be absolutely crushed and defeated by her situation. She has basically resigned herself to the Crown and is watching Diana make the same mistakes, having the gall to think she can have autonomy. Another lamb to the slaughter...
In a way, having her mostly in the background is very tragic, and it works. I do love every scene she's in, but I think they gave us just enough.
@@TheBc99 407 is my favourite episode so far (all seasons included) for very personal reasons, that have nothing to do with historical accuracy or even entertainment value. There’s no evidence that suggests that Princess Margaret was the one who found out about the sisters, but I’m glad the writers made her. It makes sense with their characterisation of Margaret. She’s the character I empathised with the most.
Emmys usually have 7-8 spots though. Not like the Oscars here.
A lot of the characters had depth, but no one touched this princess. She really felt REAL.
Да🙂
Yeah, not even Diana
Fun fact Helena actually knew Princess Margaret it gave her a pretty good perspective of how to play her so well.
I believe Helena is related to the Rothschild's.
Wait hOw did Helena knew Margaret like Helena is young.
I'm pretty sure that Princess Margaret died in 2002. They had crossed paths a few times I think there's a interview from Helena somewhere on a night show where she talks about it.
@@komaldubey4328 I believe she said her uncle dated the princess at one point
@@ashleypixie3781 she mentioned her uncle dated the princess or something like that
"Prostitutes and Australians" was the single funniest line, and perfectly delivered, of this past season, you can't change my mind.
"Isn't that who lives in Earl's Court?" LOL
Helena proves that she can do no wrong! I love that she got the chance to show off her dramatic chops in the episode about Elizabeth and Margaret's long lost cousins, and that she suggested that Margaret would object to Charles and Diana's wedding, since she didn't want them to end up in a crumbling marriage like her own. 😭😔 👑
2:50 The power in this scene...
I have to say, this is my favourite scene from the entire season, for it's sheer raw emotional power.
Helena is absolutely terrific actress. She is great in this role. She shows the complexity, heartbreak and mental health problems. Princess Margaret in real life also had mental health problems. As for the tv show princess Margaret she is shown to be always in sister's shadow, denied marriage with Peter Townsend, disastrous marriage to Armstrong Jones.
Helena is ICONIC and her as Margaret is ICONIC.
She always steals the show whenever she's on the scene! love her!
И я люблю❤её
“Everything improves with a drink *wide smile*” my life motto right there 😂
"Not everything"
"Don't be such a prick"
She was an untreated alcoholic.Explains slot about her.
*"A friend of Dorothy"*
Such a polite way to say gay.
Probably has to do with Judy Garland being one of the first celebrities to openly admit she had homosexual friends. Hollywood actually was full of them but 70 years ago people treated them like lepers so most of them did go quite some lengths to appear "straight". Rather than saying "A friend of Judy Garland's" they used her most famous role Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz instead.
@@katewilliams4013 exactly
THANK YOU for clarifying that!!! I’ve been like what the hell since I first saw this scene.

Such a deep character with an awesome actress.
She deserve a stand alone show.
I love how they established her as a kind of auntie figure in the family. Auntie Margaret, you know that kind of funny, likes to drink and smoke, everybody has someone like that in their family. Helena Bonham Carter fitted that role immensely.
....just realised I'm that one in the family 😆
“Did you just call me common and old?” 😂❤️ HBC 💗💗
I love the face the Queen Mother makes when she says "everything improves with a drink." It's like she's seriously lit as she says it.
The Queen Mum allegedly liked to start her day with a "stiffener".
The Queen Mum once sad: "I'm not as nice, as people think I am.'" Which means she was a beech, just like Margret.
JUST GIVE HER EMMY, PLEASE, SHE DESERVES THAT MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE.
The fact that she haven't won any award for this role makes me so f*cking mad! 😡 One of the best portrayals I have ever watched on TV
И меня бесит😡
Her performance of Princess Margaret can be summed up in one word: Flawless
She's my favourite of all time. And there's way more than 8 minutes. Also dose anyone now what episode she presses the queens button in
Episode 9 i think hereditary principle
It was toward the latter part of the season 4.
season 4 episode 7 :)

Helena Bonham Carter as a regular on ANY TV show means she's going to be the best character.
"yes, but your sister--"
"No, you don't call her that. You call her The Queen. NOT 'my sister.'"
if that truly happened, i am indeed touched.
"And you're not allowed to sit in that chair".
Whenever there's Helena in a movie, or a series, I definitely watch it. She's captivated me, when I first got to watch Harry Potter movies, as Bellatrix when I was in my fourth grade. Love her. Bloody amazing actress! She's always top notch! 🙌🏻
But she makes all her characters absolutely identical. Literally the same dark, quirky, tragic woman.
You really like to hate Bellatrix. HBC performed the role brilliantly.
I was also shocked that she was that antagonist in Les Miserables
For me Helena bonham Carter is tge female version of Johnny Depp
Helena Bonham Carter is an amazingly good actress.
Princess margaret, the most genuine person in this tv series. I admire her strength to speak her mind clearly. Helena did a fantastic job portraying this character.
Princess Margaret was my favourite royal 👍🏻 she really didn’t give a shit 😆
Princess Margaret was the Tyrion Lannister of the royal family
Cersei
@@mariamara999 Margaret's not as Evil as Cersei
yes!
Well she definitely drank and knew things!
Poor Princess Margaret, you do wonder if she’d been allowed to marry Peter whether she would have known happiness 😔 I loved the scenes with Tom Burke.
She was allowed to marry Townsend, she choose not to.
She was allowed to, at the expense of being excommunicated from the royal family as an outcast, without the privileges she had been accustomed to depend on. She likely would be rarely seen by her own family. She was put in a horrid situation.
She was allowed to marry him but no doubt she loved being a royal more - I really have no sympathy for this vapid woman.
@@msg4141 She saw what her uncle went through and didn’t want to go through the same. Imagine living your whole life performing duties and living in this lifestyle for it to be taken away from you? You think that would be an easy decision. Pfft.
What if that marriage didn’t work out in the end? She’d be left with nothing. Not like he was a faithful man. Wasn’t he married at the time he fell for her?!

Nothing in life is guaranteed.
FYI the man she married and had children with had affairs with women and men throughout their marriage so did she.
And did she not divorce her children's father anyway.
The issue is that she wasn't trained for anything and didn't seem keen to apply herself to anything other than partying, smoking, drinking and chasing young men.

“I need something to fill it with”
So sad but so accurate….
It literally broke my heart the scene between Queen and her sister and the cough. I can imagine losing their father was a painful period in both their lives. I hope that they weren't so distant/ formal as portrayed on the series and they supported each other.
‘Apparently the healing can not start until grandiosity is diminished.’ - I never noticed this line in The Crown before. It’s in the book I am reading ‘Drama of the Gifted Child’. Narcissist rarely seek recovery because they blame everyone else for their issues. Margaret as she is written in The Crown is very high on narcissism spectrum. As are both Princes of Wales.
People don't realise that being a royal is not freedom, its not all fub and living in wealth. It can be lonely , controlling, depressing and unfulling. And this is for all royals or at least most of them around the world.
Loved Helenas portrayal.
People forget it’s a job and not just a regular job you leave from its 24/7. Everything you say, do, wear, eat etc. is being watched.
I never saw The Crown, but she is an incredible talent! I loved her in The King’s Speech. She played so many weird roles that I think a lot of people didn’t think she could do serious roles.
That was a great opening of a new episode with a fabulous David Bowie track and cute but funniest of dance moves by Tom Burke and Helena Bonham Carter. Simply a remarkable, unforgettable scene.🤩👏🏼
I haven’t yet seen this series but saw that scene. She’s great
Bowie hated the royals and declined a knighthood lol
@@ririschannelx Really..? Never knew that before, that’s quite interesting actually as Bowie songs were also featured a couple of times before in the previous episodes of The Crown. Thank you for the info.😃👍🏼
Princess Margaret to me shall and always will be Helena's. Helena gave her everything a great personality, she had her ups and downs, moments when all you wanted to do was jump into the screen and give her a hug and tell everything was going to be alright, but above all else she made Margaret relatable for the viewers. Helena you shall be greatly missed. Such a beautiful actress to go with an equal as beautiful character within herself.
Season 3 & 4 of The Crown made Princess Margaret more human. Flawed.
Helena Bonham Carter is such a phenomenal actress that she played two members of the royal family (Queen Mother in "King's Speech" and Margaret in "The Crown") and absolutely nailed each performance. What a Queen!
Give Helena Bonham Carter and Gillian Anderson all of the awards!!!
I love the corgi at the beginning like “I’m just happy to be here and be involved”
HBC is a fantastic actress. She should have an Oscar by now.
i love the scenes where princess Margaret and queen Elizabeth are together, it really shows they have a great bond.
I am definitely not ready to say goodbye to this wonderful cast! 😭
“I don’t want more time.... Don’t you see?..... Time, It scares me, it fills me with dread... I want something, to fit in with.”
Those words that Princess Margaret spoke to the other woman on the beach is sooo true....
This sister duo is so entertaining.
They should do a spin off series with her!!!! Just about this era of Margaret's life
The show speculated over whether or not she would’ve been a better queen. The monarchy certainly would’ve modernized a lot faster under her stewardship, she still wouldn’t have been allowed to marry Peter Townsend no question, I don’t know that Snowden would have made proper consort material. But the question is still begged would she had been the better queen? And then I see the scene where she handled Mrs. Thatcher, and then there’s no question about it.
HBC is one of my all time favorite actresses.
I loved the Olivia’s response “you’ve made it this far” I still die when watching it
Margaret is truly my fav. Obsessed with the way she plays ibble dibble

The queen mother and the queen are 2 incompassionate I have ever heard of.
If only Margaret had Married Townsend she would have lived a happy life
''Friend of Dorothy'' I love that, haha.
If only Margaret's father had left her some inheritance she could have run off with Townsend
o, but she did choose the royal position an much more money and all of the publicity. She did choose that herself. For herself. She wasn t a victim here. It was a choise she made.
The monarch always leaves everything to the next monarch. Inheritance taxes, which are 80-90% at their level, are avoided that way, since only the monarch is exempted from paying them. It is up to that heir or heiress to give some of the inheritance to others in the family as personal gifts.
